Jay confirmed that the party interface and system is gone in D3. Now when you join a multiplayer game, you are automatically in a party. Jay said that now that there’s no option to go hostile, it was pointless to force players to go through an additional party joining interface. The team is considering mechanisms that might be needed to deal with griefers or players who otherwise try to ruin the play experience.
Hmm what do you guys think? I don't like about it one bit. It's actually one of the only things in D3 so far that have made feel like this.
Now I am a D2 player all the way since pre-LOD and back then people used to solo or do max 2 player parties(because partying cut your exp to half per member in party or something around there) well some people did bigger parties but with huge exp losses. I've kept the style until this day and refuse to do 8 people rush 1 area parties where you can hardly see a thing whats happening. Whats most frustrating these days is that people think that everyone in a game wants to be in 1 big party. Why do I want to party with people in act1 if I am in act4?
Playing HC has made me sceptic enough to not party with strangers. 1 big party in a game and a PK knows exactly where everyone is playing. Now PK's won't be a problem in D3 but I still dislike to show off where I am doing and what.
Sometimes I've invited people to party if I've done act2 quests for example and they have been around there in the same area. I tought that "hey we could get trough this faster and easier" but many times I've been wrong about it. Many times these people in my party just follow me and have no time to kill a thing before I've cleared the areas so why should I have them in my party just hanging around there?
One other problem in the Europe realm at least is the fact that not everyone speaks english or at least they are very poor at doing it. So why should I be in a party with people that can't even understand what I'm saying?
Imo this feature could actually discourage co-op, making people do private games with friends or solo in order to not get any extra random guys to your party. If they design the game well we won't need auto party but people will seek for party. You could at least have an option to not auto party if you don't like to.
Blizzard can't be normal and implement a handy system in which we can view what server certain players are on with their names displayed, what act their in, and what level they are and chose your group based on that. Unheard of. I'm going to take a guess that there will be no Kick/Ban option ?
Why can't Blizzard just do a simple PvP solution that gives control to the players? From my post in another thread:
PvP Free For All - Anyone can be attacked at any time.
Consentual PvP - a duel system basically, both players must agree.
No PvP - Players cannot damage each other no matter what.
Since they're taking so much from WoW, this system would mimic the World PvP settings of servers into an instanced play format. Simply put three tickboxes on the game creation screen. Allow the game creator to boot/kick people from the game.
Problem solved simply and elegantly. Less work to program it in, and gives more control to the players. Its win-win.
They're not going to do away with PvP completely I suspect in PvP games hostility will automatically be on, people won't be in a party, and of course the player cap will be a little higher.
PvP is too popular for them to just do away with it. Actually I think this looks more promising for the PvP community because it means they're looking into bigger and better things than just "PvP toggle/Hostility"
Being able to Toggle/Hostile at one's will with no 3 step safety restraints made PvP feel more fluent though. If PvP wasnt so popular in Diablo 2, I think they would have brushed PvP off to the side.
PvP is popular, no denying it. A lot of people play a lot of games for it. Even WoW has some hardcore PvPers. They know it brings in a good chunk of money and they'll give us some good PvP elements, I have a feeling. Maybe small arenas, maybe some scoring system to show who's in the top kills. Possibly some rewards of some kind.
this is actually useful ifeel no more partiying them they enter and yay theyre partied they join up with us and thats it. The pvp system will be implemented i think in a selection method when you start bnet 2 and lofg in i think they will ask you what type of games are you looking for PvP or Co-Op choose and there you have it the diffrent types of games.obviouslly the pvp will not prty and they will prob have up to 8 or mayb 6 idk..

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
Anyhow! Now that you're forced in a party it might become like this:
Hmmm... a game that FORCES people to play with someone they don't want to. I can't imagine where this might lead, such as spam bots constantly joining 3/4 games and advertising, or newbs doing the same and begging for whatever items pass for currency. Luckily we the player won't be able to avoid this situation since apparently no kick/boot controls will be given to the game's creator.
Lower levels enteres and asks for help or asks to join and the higher level will be like, well ah, what the heck, you're already in here. A new friendship will be made and everyone's totally happy.
Are you high?
I mean. When I first started D2, getting good friends was pretty easy. Now it's like. Why is my f list empty!?
So exactly what in D2 changed between when you started and now? Could it be that the game is 8 years old and that most of your friends have moved on? And your point is irrelevant anyways, since the party functionality within D2 hasn't changed.
But I do understand your point with the annoyance it could create but It's a minor impact that will be insignificant and insuperior to the ups of co-op gameplay with auto-party.
FORCING people to co-op play will just mean a plethora of people creating more 1 player only locked games, further bogging down the servers. In addition, the annoyance factor is incredibly high, given the nature of online gaming.
Taking away a player's options in a sequel is stupid. You add to, never subtract from, that's just poor or lazy design.

Well I wouldn't want high level to hang around and killing my monsters.. In D2 I've been some questing games in a slightly bigger party and everytime someone ruins the fun by coming with a high level character to kill all the monsters in split second. Most of the time I just leave and do the frikin quests solo since some people don't have any patience at all. Btw friendship is made? In D2 there are lots and lots of games where people make an 8 player party and go somewhere clear the monsters.. but seriously do you think those are instantly friends? No, they hardly even talk to each other. Well thats a game design flaw, allowing mindless runs to place X that doesn't last more than 5 mins.
And btw my f list is also empty nowadays. It used to be quite full when the ladder was reset but it only took 1 month when people were gone again .) the game just sucks and it is really hard to get any decent friends there nowadays.
Maybe there will be a system to put players near players near their own level like in diablo 2? I mean, if they are auto-partying people, and promoting more co-op, then surely they will also make co-op possible and fun, rather than constantly helping people catch up to you. Although, i do hope there is an option for private games or a way to join with real-life friends and whatnot, because i love to solo just to see what i'm capable of, and i love to play with just a small group of good rl friends.

Stay.
You don't always know where you stand,
'Till you know that you won't run away.
There's something inside me that feels...
Like breathing in sulfur.
I don't see the reason why there is anything to discuss about this, although maybe you guys can enlighten me.
When I open a multiplayer game, I expect people with the same goals in mind to be the ones to join my game so we can do those things together. You have no business in my game room if you're not doing what I had in mind in the first place; either I'll leave or you will. The Auto party doesn't change any of that, it just removes the need to invite people to play multiplayer. If you really want to do something else, just open your own room. If you want to do stuff alone constantley, you have that option in Single player mode. Is that really so hard to understand?
In D2 most of the time I join questing games to get exp alone. If I kill the monsters as fast as in party, why do I take a party to share the exp? 8 player game as solo == nice exp and it is also nice to see what my character is cabable of.
And why can't I join any room and do whatever I want in there? There are no rules that if the game name is "help me" that I need to help you, if you don't want other people to join to the game and do whatever they like you need to be the one to make private games. I find it funny in Battle.net when people tell me to leave game if I don't party.. But this stuff only happens in softcore since people are weird there, in HC everyone is used that people like to solo, since trusting anyone is foolish there especially in these tppk days.
Opening my own room doesn't give me extra EXP points. Single player don't give me extra EXP and also it doesn't have ladder/trading or the occasional co-op with friends.
How Blizzard tackles the other things like equal levels or PvP is still a mistery to me, but think about this seriously for a second. Do you really believe Blizzard won't give you control over what level characters play with you? At the very least, Blizzard will do that themselves by controlling which games you see according to similar levels. If they do that then they have also just done away with rushing
Yeah I'd like to see a way to prevent rushing.
Anyways Forcing party and not able to leave it or hostile the other player.. if some bugger wants to chase me even when I tell him not to, I have no other choise but to do private games or something. I bet I'm not the only one that has to do this.
Well, all this soloing is the result of all friends quitting D2 somewhere when LOD had been around 1 year. Maybe things are different when D3 comes and many of the old friends returning. Perhaps I won't do anything else but party with them. But with strangers I probably won't do that so much. Don't know how it works I'm in party but doing my own things
Eh.. as I said already.. I don't mind to be in party with people I know.. but those random guys.. why do I have to be with them? It would be ok if I could leave the party at least if I wanted. Have autoparty when I join game but also have the option to unparty if I like to.
I play ladder and mostly do it alone..I play in classic europe hc atm 87 barb somewhere around 10-14th in barb ladder. Only full games there are pretty much cs runs.. I never do those. Why would a ww barb be in cs run, to stand there.. and watch others do the killing. So I rather do it solo in some other games and yes many times I have to do it 1 player since there aren't always so much players around in classic hc. I did play some time with a friend of mine but he is in army and we hardly meet up in battle.net. I like 2 player parties rather than full game parties.
So what if I want to play with my friend as a 2 player party? It is impossible to do it in full game for us? Why? Why do we have to be in party with 2 strangers, if we want to play together in a full game for the best exp. If the 2 of us beat down all enemies with ease, we don't want the extra hassle to our screens. Many times some inexperienced guys in battle.net get others into trouble. They are weak and start running around, pulling more monsters in a tough situation and get the whole party into the trouble, then they just leave game or go town.. "well thanks a lot!"
Let's look at it this way.
What are the reasons to join a room?
1) Cooperation/Missions. You need help with specific things, or you want to help. (I think Blizzard is going to add a description option, so you could describe what your room is made for. E.g. leveling, farming, quests.)
2) Exp. You want to level up faster by fighting against higher level monsters that you cannot solo against. Or you just want to be in party to earn faster exp fighting against stronger creatures (more people in a room, stronger the monster) Remember the level 70 hell baal runs? Or the cow runs?
3) PKing. You joined a room to kill other players, most likely when they least expect it.
4) Solo leveling. You joined a room because you needed more xp (more people, more xp per monster). Regardless of what the room was there for, you joined just to do a solo baal run or solo cow run. If there are people doing it already, you join them, if they aren't, you solo.
5) To be a Jerk. You joined to be jerk, not only pking other people, but killing cow king etc.
6) Company. You joined just for the sake of company. You might want to chat, you might want to do your own stuff but know that you're not alone in the room, or you might join whatever the people in the room are currently doing.
7) Leeching/Stealing. Similar to XP gaining, except you went to pick up left over loots that you're lacking, such as potions. A lot of items are left behind during a cow run.
These are the most common reasons for joining a room. If you think about it, most of these won't make much of a difference whether you're in a party or not. If somebody entered your room and soloed the bosses that you need to kill for a mission, that is selfish of that person. Since you and your party will have to make a new room in order to accomplish the mission. So if you were automatically partied, they might add a system so that your party gains a portion of everything (like all rpgs) you gain regardless of your location. A nice punishment to prevent situation 4).
Otherwise, what difference is there if you were in a party? Especially if you made an open room or decided to join a room.
Jay Wilson says in an interview that when we join a game, we'll be partied together. However, you can leave the party, or get booted.
Oh, it wasn't in my source mm i think. If thats the case I feel better
Sounds somewhat ok for those that are doing some exp games, you are automaticly partied so you don't have to click at the party button everytime at the start of the game.
If you get a source for that info, i'm so much relieved

If that's established...then I think we can all just relax instead of latching onto something new to bitch about! I know forums are fun...but cmon Going on after something's resolved is joblessness to the max

Well at least we got some nice opinions here what people think about multiplaying in battle.net
I haven't watched the whole thing, but I heard the first minute or so where he said the thing about parties. Going to the listen to the rest in a bit.
Yeah I guess the anti griefing mechanism is the thing. "booting players from the party" well if it is easy to leave or boot someone I guess the system is fine.
At least we get rid of one annoyance in battle.net now.
