The pay-to-play aspects are likely to not be key features of the game, only luxeries that may not make much of a difference. If they do, they're probably aware that their fanbase may shrink.
As for SC2, I don't play it, I love RTS games, but never cared about SC2. However I like the idea of splitting it into 3, it seems better off like that, however they shouldn't charge full-game price per each one. Make each one worth around two fifth of the total (so if you buy all 3 you're only paying a bit more than the full game alone).
My point exactly. A lot of people hated the split. But i myself agree on it, just as long as it does cost too much. Many people fail to realize and assume it cost 50$ each.
Well, assume that one of the microtransactions is an additional character slot.
And lets assume that if I buy Diablo 3, I only use two character slots for whatever reason.
Blizzard should pay ME microtransactions per month to buy back my unused character slots. Basically anytime I use less than the maximum of a supported feature, I get cold hard cash! Why should the gravy train be one way?

And given the nature of many game companies releasing expansions at full price (US$49.99) if we assume Blizzard is following market trends, then they probably WILL charge $150 for the game, while marketing the two expansions as full games "making use of the advanced SC2 engine." Its the old bait and switch.
Hopefully those features they are talking about is just things like realm change, name change, sex change, maybe respec Nothing major and nothing month by month. I hope to god.
haha, should we be discussing the moral implications of paying for a sex change? is it a cheaper price if the character gets a sex change and name change? usually the two go hand in hand. i'm pretty sure blizz won't be touching that one with a ten foot pole.

No blizzard wont be touching that with a 90 foot pole

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
There are going to be P2P features included? That worries me, as does the promise of the P2P features being small and marginal, I think Flagship Studios said something similar about Hellgate: London and look at how that turned out... Could someone give me a link to this revelation?

And minor things like those are worth paying monthly for ?
Those features should be absolutely free, I can't even believe those features are considered as luxuries.
Those things are absolutlely luxuries as they have to be done by hand, at least on WoW. You request a realm change, you wait until they okay it, then it happens. If you want a name change you have to have it approved.
I REALLY don't think they're talking about Pay to Play. If they were they wouldn't have said microtransactions for some features. They would have said monthly fee, or pay to play. Which is not the case thus far.

I'm betting some new content will be part of the P2P section of it... which is fine, depending on the price... I'm also betting one of the features that will be P2P is stashes that are shared among all your character, etc.

Possibly.
As long as I don't have to pay a monthly fee I won't be angry. If I want extra stuff then I'll pay for the extra stuff. Doesn't bother me really.
I think you guys complaining about the 3 episodes of sc2 are not grasping the situation. Think of it this way, Starcraft was released for full price. Then the expansion pack Brood wars came out with similar amount of campaign missions and a few new units for multiplayer at a lower price than the original game. Most if not everyone bought Brood Wars if they liked Starcraft.
Now with sc2, they are releasing the initial game with the same amount of campaign missions (they said 30+) but just for one race as well as a fully developed multiplayer game with all 3 races. The 2 episodes after that can be considered expansion packs just like brood wars. They will give 30+ more campaign missions each, but for one race only. They will probably add a few more units and maybe features to the multiplayer game, enhancing it much like Brood Wars did. These future "expansions" will most likely be at a reduced price ( I don't know why everyone is assuming will each cost $50). The ONLY difference between these 3 episodes and starcraft + brood wars is that the campaigns here are limited to 1 race only, but will last just as long as all 3 campaigns in the original starcraft. I don't see why everyone is making such a big deal. The method sounds pretty fair to me, especially if it means we get to play the game a few years sooner.
R47 I agreed its to a point kinda like HL episodes.
And to no offence to those that say they will not buy the game if its p2p, do u really think that a couple of ppl (100-1000 maybe a little bit more) not buying the game b/c of that will stop the from making it p2p?
Just look at WoW ppl bitch and complain about how its p2p and how much it is repeative etc. etc, but yet it has 10 mil (give or take) subscriptions

It may not make a difference but at least we tried.
And you might want to consider the differences between WoW's P2P and D3...
WoW has permanent servers, massive worlds, open ended game play, professions, 40 man raids, various types of organized and world PvP, heck even fishing tournaments!
D3 is an instance only game, with linear worlds, gameplay that leads you from one act to the next, rigid class system that pigeonholes everyone into the same spec, 4 player maximum per game, no world PvP, etc.
WoW may be repetitive, but the system is much more developed and the world itself is much more massive and server intensive. D3 will not be, hence does not IMHO qualify for P2P status.

Looking at the skills of the wizard, I'd say there are more unique build possibilities for d3 classes than WoW by far. Plus, if they do p2p, no one said it will be the same amount as they are charging for WoW.
yes i agree that it is very different from WoW but if you expect a game to be support/content in the future u have to expect to pay for it now a days. as much as everyone hates it (i included) we have to accept it eventually and i have...

You know, once I downloaded Steam years ago, and bought some Valve games. Pretty sure I haven't been charged since, despite getting additional maps, patches and even expansions.
TF2 is constantly updated and I haven't paid one dime extra.
Perhaps you should do actual research before making baseless claims to the contrary? Just a suggestion.

Or you could, you know, refuse to take part in this monetization of features that have been firmly free for a long time. It's people like you who let corporations walk all over everyone else. Oh no, I guess we just have to accept it. That's just life guys! Blizzard can own my wallet, release worse and worse games (beta tests), and begin monetizing features that gamers have taken for granted since the dawn of gaming.

It's cheap bastards like you that keep a game from making a steady monetary gain that prompts the developers to produce expansions. You are ultimately reducing the possible content the diablo team could produce.
