The hotkey skills are reserved for area affecting spells such as frost nova or a warcry. Your left mouse button still does normal or skill assigned attacks same as right button. You can set your left click for electrocute (lightning) and the right mouse click for magic missile...same concept as Diablo II LOD except your area affecting skills are able to be on these hotkeys.

Thanks for the feedback Thasador! That's exactly what we wanted to know!
F5 and F6 are much further away than 5 and 6 if you are already used to nesting your small finger next to the Tab key or somewhere around there. And you will be needing the Tab key to swap skills now so that is convenient.
The only real difference is that now you can access the hotkeys with your mouse as well as your keyboard.

Well like I've been saying all along is that the skills you place on the hot bar will be instant cast when you actually hit the key and not require the player to click a mouse button to use the skill.
This to me at least is a huge improvement over the old press F1 to bind the skill to a mouse button and then click to cast. Now it's simply press 1-6 to use a skill while still retaining your original mouse bound skills. This should allow for a more varied combination of skills to be used more quickly than what was capable in the old system.
I agree with Yoshida the binding to keys over the F buttons to change your mouse function will we a lot quicker and that speed is extremely important for a game with the speed of Diablo 2 and hopfuly Diablo 3. Pluss with the lack of Potions the number keys are much closer to the other hotkeys making it just more convenient for my wrist
*edit* the comment about the numbers over F-keys i owe some agreement to Dimebog who i constantly read as Dimebag because its too damn close.

YUCK!
first of all, in d2 you can change all of your f-keys to whatever keys you want for easier accessibility. i'm sure d3 will be customizable as well so that if people don't like them on 1-6 they can probably move them back to the f-keys
second of all, about blizz "borrowing" ideas or mechanics from other games.. that's what blizzard does. for instance in wow, when it came out, was not innovative in the least. it borrowed the most successful concepts from every other title out there and then presented it in a package that was more accessible to a broader audience.. hence bigger playerbase more money more resources and they went from there.
i don't really mind them borrowing things from other games as long as the diablo playstyle and feel is preserved.
and lastly, a question:
can you still push a button to change what skill is on your right mouse click?
or is it just skills that you assign to keys, 2 static skills on your mouse, and then the ability to cycle through them on the wheel?
i much prefer mouse clicking but mostly because hitting movement keys at the same time as combat hotkeys can sometimes be tricky.
another question with its isometric view is d3 still point and clickable? or do you need to use wasd to move?

serving only to ensure absolute vulnerability to the pain of their inevitable absence.
I would hope that if Blizzard were to rip off another RPG, they'd set their standards higher than 2moons.
I played 2moons for about 1 week before uninstalling it. Not a very interesting game really.

::EDIT:: How can you even call that similar game play?!!? its just hot keys.
The 1-6 keys in D3 function the same way keys F1 through F6 used to function D2. Exactly the same.
"Same Gamplay?!"
Wow.
However moving the skills down a row means its faster to get to them, and in games, speed is everything.
Just a question though: If you kept the skills on the F keys, what would you have on the normal number keys?

2moons doesn't really play anything like any Blizzard game. This is a good thing for Blizzard, luckily.
Now, if D3 actually plays like 2moons... oh it'll be bad.
lol... I definitely doubt that... Blizzard is way too huge to copy 2moons... They set standards for others...not the other way around...

Free MMO's suck. Well, they all do...
