Diablo 3 is huge and the whole diablo franchise has grown enourmously and i believe that since Wow originated from a RTS and became the most popular MMO why cant diablo go from RPG to RTS as like a side project... you can have the hero class the demon class the undead class & whatever other types of monsters there are i forgot what else but you could do somethign along those lines, or you could make it the armies of hearoes diablo baal and mephisto somethign along those lines as well
thoughts please...
SIDENOT: do you think they will reverse this process with SC because that could be worked into a big RPG which IMO would be great i mean the aspect of SC in an rpg that would be fun

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
I don't know, the transition from RTS to MMORPG is easier I think than from an Action RPG to RTS. Sure there are a few castes or factions to choose from, undead, humans/Nephalem, Demons, Angels just to name some, but how would that all work out, how could you have varied numbers or Undead for example? Besides, I don't think they want to release a new RTS after Starcraft II comes out.

Don't try to be a great man, just be a man... and let history make its own judgment. -Zefram Cochrane, Star Trek
It's highly unlikely that Diablo will ever be reworked into an RTS- there is simply no grounds in the Diablo Universe to provide the unit supply, variety or even feel that is required for an RTS. The Diablo Universe does not have factions that lends itself to warring armies with a command structure and unit structure that would allow it to be strategic like Starcraft.
Starcraft on the other hand was worked to be an RTS and accordingly had 3 factions or races developed with rich backstories to fuel a variety of relevant units on each side. Starcraft has already been developed into an RPG ala Starcraft Ghost- but the series was cancelled due to Blizzard not being happy with the way it turned out.
Starcraft as a universe can lend itself to RPG and RTS with ease because it was designed as an RTS from the ground up- with a much larger universe. Also refer to the single player campaign presentations made ages ago at the last WWI- the single player of starcraft was developed almost to be very RPG like when you're not on actual missions- you actually take the role of a fellow under the command of Jim Raynor and can explore your resources, make choices when talking to the crew aboard your ship and even choose the missions you wish to pursue.
Diablo on the other hand was designed as a small-scale RPG and had the world developed around that RPG mentality -with no room for expansion into an RTS- which imo, would be really lame and would not work no matter how hard anyone tried
I could see it happening though. It would be pretty leet. It would be like...a bit rugged like sc, but way darker, it would be pretty beast

I think the races would more likely be angels, humans, and demons if anything. Don't think undead would fit in too well. Seems like in Diablo they lack leadership.
in an MMO, you have to have lots and lots of units and they have to be big and you have to have lots of detail. in the isometric view, everything's tiny and is forgiven much more easily, like lack of detail up close may be moderate detail far away.
therefore, the gore would translate VERY poorly if Diablo went MMO. so no. no MMO. if horror and gore doesn't work, no is the vote.

Oddly enough all three of those groups has enough unique content to compliment a Starcraft clone.

Angels? I don't see how they have any variety seeing as we know there's just 1 council with a variety amongst them and that's it...
Humans are splintered themselves and wouldn't really count as a faction- and moreover there's too much variety to form a group of relevant units.
Demons - again structure seems to be lacking- but is probably the most adaptable out of the three.
More than anything- some of the biggest aspects of RTS is buildings, resource management and unit hierarchy...Even if we manage to nail the units- what kind of resources and buildings are you going to use for Angels and Demons....
No way in hell are you going to get a starcraft clone from the current diablo content.
What if they did a RTS of the Sin War? A prequel game kind of.
I think that would be kind of unique. Angels don't have a awful lot of exposure but there are some angels never really talked about. Like Yaerius and Hadriel.
Maybe part of a Diablo RTS could cover the Dark Exile, when the prime evils were cast out of hell. You can play as Belial, Azmodan, Andarial and Duriel in their quest to banish the prime evils.
I don't see how it could work at all. I mean, SC and WC are already the best RTS' ever made and they will continue to own the market. I don't see why Blizzard would go "down" a level to RTS (don't get me wrong, but I think an MMO is a better and more lucrative option) when they can go "up" to the MMO stage and profit even more.
I mean think about it, WoW has over 10 million subscribers, closing in on 11 million and you pay $15 a month to pay it. Now, I don't know how much goes to the store that sells the gamecards, or other crap like that, but thats over $150 million dollars a MONTH. I think the next step for Diablo is an obvious MMO.
However, I hope Blizzard releases at least TWO expansion packs for Diablo 3. That way, the longevity of the game will even be longer than Diablo 2.
It doesn't even have to be a resources esque game, it could be a tactical RTS like World in Conflict or Ground Control. It doesn't really have to have a bunch of unique archetypes it can just have units with certain abilities to make them more appealing and inter-dependant. Each class could play differently like Starcraft units, such as angels having fewer but more powerful units, and the humans having moderate units with high customability, and then hell with their mixed hordes of units depending on numbers less than individual power.

Can I say this is a terrible idea without actually having to go into why? Just trust me. It's garbage.

I know how you feel- but give throw the poor guy a bone and at least be courteous enough to explain why you feel this way instead of having to just be mean
that's probably the best idea i've seen on this site so far. i can see an angels vs demons sort of thing or something. i'm not a fan of RTS in general, but i'd certainly play a Diablo-based one.
they'd have to heavily buff up the humans though if they were going to be playable, otherwise no one would really want to play them if they had the option to play other powerful races.

Considering the 'humans' go toe to toe with the biggest baddest demons around, why would they have to buff them up. Also they could easily make an RTS work from Diablo and it could actually be pretty damn cool, but they probably won't. Also demons may be unorganized in Diablo 2 but that is the structure of the game, that's how it works. Its like ninjas going after Jackie Chan one at a time, if they actually worked together Jackie would die in the first five minutes and the movie would suck.
Anyways Diablo 2 did show some working together of the evil units...lashers, ancient ones...Plus you can't tell me an iron maiden-esque spell wouldn't be pretty badass for an RTS, all the curses for that matter. They have all the spells they would ever need. They would just need to come up with what type of resources to gather and how, angel and human units, and how units are produced. Demons probably build portals or dig holes that spawn units, humans probably do standard training in barracks type, and angels build a stairway to heaven?:)
