awe man now i cant run out of a battle thats getting too intense??
oh well i guess ill have to adapt to that..... but anyways i always wondered in D2... how come when you make a town portal the monsters cant follow you through it??
well w/e but itd be pretty cool and add a little more challenge.... but im fine with having checkpoints.... i mean everyone adapts to new things.... i guess....
My only concern is that, should you get disconnected, or have to leave for whatever reason... will you start back at a "Checkpoint", or start back at town having to run through all of that mess again... so if you're with friends, they can join you somehow without having to run all of the way back or forward to the next "waypoint" or town.

Personally i liked the town portals being around... I agree they made the game far too easy though. Given now that monsters aren't being made purely to try and 1 hit ko us though I doubt i'll have much of a problem with it... Also given that they are redesigning the item carrying system i doubt we'll have such horrible space issues.... I hated finding a decent item then having to go back to town almost straight away because i was full of charms.
As long as i'm not running for a minute or fighting for 5 minutes just so i can unload my bag that became full i'll be happy anyway if that happens i'd probably get use to it regardless though
Perhaps they could implement a system where once someone joins your party you can have a feature which allows you to open a portal for them, that immediately closes once they pass through it. Therefore you could always go adventuring with your friends and not have to rely on Town Portals. i kind of like their renewed stance on the portal issue, it was very abused in Diablo II, like it was a given that you always had a TP to pull you out of the flames should things get too dicey. It removed the fear and apprehension from a game named after the Lord of Terror. The thought shouldn't be "I'll buy another five TP's just in case" it should be "Damn it, this dungeon is pretty tough, but we used our first and final TP getting away from that mini-boss."

I really didnt like this checkpoint stuff... if you die you will respawn with low health in an area that you already killed all the monsters, so you wont find health globes to replenish your health. What you will do them? You certanly cant go back to the place you died with low health and you wont be able to return to town too... Esc + quit?
Does blizzard knows something called coldown?? just add it to the town portal scrolls and problem solved IMO (the same could be apllied for potions xD).
I highly doubt blizz guys will read this message, but hope my message speaks out if you guys read it. Anyway, dying is inevitable in the world of diablo, with that in mind.... is there someway to get our stuff and not like the diablo 2 system did. Such as, retrieving a corpse with no gear espc. in hell mode where they can one shot you making it impossible to get your corpse. I just hope something like when you die your gear stays with you wherever you spawn, of course add a huge penalty to offset this.
I have to say I like the idea of no town portals or a very limited supply of them or atleast in pvp no town portals. Nothing is more annoying then going to kill someone and they run to town.
i definetly like the way blizz is going
Nox was like that, you really was challenged this way, having to scrunch for potion and planning attacks
tho i didnt like you woudl visit each town only once or 2 thru the game, so a between that and diablo will be great
I think if Blizzard implements this right it could potentially be really interesting. I believe that what they are trying to do is simpler than what you guys are hinting at. I think they are only trying to extend the ammount of fighting/dungeon crawling time that you get out of one run. Whereas in D1/D2 you used to go out in the wilderness and basically the fighting time depended strongly on how much "inventory space/potions remaining" before going back again. This often made for 1 to 2 minute delays in harder difficulty areas, especially in HC mode. So i mean mosty people were doing ; 2 Min. Fighting + 5 Min. Town hogging to stash/repair/sell/lvl/buy/replenish.....etc.
I believe limiting the usage of TP's and not removing them is the way to go to intensify the action part of D3. Which by all means is what they seem to be doing since obviously they didn't design the TP artwork simply to have Deckard Cain use it once at the beginning of the game. So I'm putting my money on active/waypoint areas to use TP's.

TPs will probably be only out of combat or something of that sort. Rationing them would make it so you would use it solely when you were in trouble, which is obviously not something they are looking to do, as they want you to be forced to stay in action, but out of combat seems to fit the bill.
ugh dude. the more i read about d3, the more i dislike it. to be honest the only thing theyve announced so far that i like is individual drops.
i think im going to stop reading anything about d3 other than class announcements, a checkpoint system and tps being taken out (maybe not completely but still). i mean come on.
i mean seriously, there taking everything i, personally, loved about diablo, and destroying it, complete and total destruction. fuck the creators of wow

(this build was before D3 launched... looking back on it now - i had no idea what i was doing)
The whole idea of having town being far away and a place that you cherish going back to after a hard fight on a quest is quite novel, far different from any other RPG I have played and it does put more emphasis on being on a "quest" instead of killing something, use a tp, going back to town, go back to the fight, etc.
It would also veil the mystery of what will happen when you go back to town. It sounds like a great idea to me. The only thing that I would not want is toting around all this gear and not being able to sell it or picking up other gear that would benefit me or another character on my account.
I don't know if this was mentioned earlier on in the thread; don't have a ton of time to read every post, but what if to make the use of town portals only available out of combat so you just cant run back to town in the middle of a battle.
Honestly, I find this to take away from the meaning of "death." In D2, I didn't want to die because it was such a pain in the ass to get my corpse back because I either didn't have a town portal, or my corpse was going to be camped by monsters. Obviously, in D1 you didn't want to die PERIOD cuz you were done if you died, you had to start back from where you saved last (or in multiplayer, hope you can pick your gear up off the dungeon floor). With checkpoints, it sounds too easy. No "dammit moment" if you forget to cast a TP, you just start back at the beginning of the dungeon level. Granted they didn't say whether or not you had to go retrieve your corpse but this sounds like it was taken straight out of Titan Quest where you just reappear back at a respawn well with full gear.
I don't like it. I'm all for trying new things and ideas but the TP/Town combo was unique to Diablo. Sure the whole corpse thing in D2 really sucked, but there have to be better more creative ways than to cop-out and use a checkpoint system from another game...
i am a bit worried about how this will effect hardcore not just single and multiplayer i wonder if this makes hardcore more easy now....... and i'll miss the whole if u die ur done feeling. that made diablo wat diablo really was. i will miss
the tp/town/corpes. but i am willing to try something new. its just going to feel very different lol. trying to imagine
"OK GUYS HERES chECK POINT ANYONE WANT TO RUN TOWN NOWS UR CHANCE." O SHIT! BARB NO! CLICKS THE DOOR WTF''' PAWNED/ganked at check point ROFL GG.
Why couldn't they keep bodys but let u spawn at check point with no gear and i'll be happy with it thats fine. so at least u can still be ganked and lose gear. i say keep tps so just in case that happens then it all works out.

Blizzard WILL give us TP's and they WILL be rationed, it's just so logical its not even funny, like giving us a ranged class.
As for the death mechanic, it reminded me alot of WoW, when your resurrect at the spirit healers: I guess if something ain't broke, don't fix it.
