You have to remember that there is a big difference between what a video editor can do and what the Blizzard design team is capable of. All of these edited screenshots and videos can never show 100% what people have in mind when they talk about a darker Diablo. They are just estimates and approximations.
When a video editor lowers the brightness/saturation values of a video, the entire frame is effected. That means the environment, the character, the monsters and everything else on the screen is universally affected by the same adjustments. When a video editor leeches out green and purple hues from the environment he is also leeching out the green and purple hues from everything else as well.
The Blizzard design team, on the other hand, would have control over every single asset in the game. They could, for example, leech the green and purple hues from the environment but leave the character and monsters and skill animations COMPLETELY UNAFFECTED. These could retain the same colorful "pop" that they have now. Also, even though the environment in the video is largely a grey environment, the Blizzard design team would still be able to add color highlights to any part of the environment in order to break up the monotony. This is why it's absolutely laughable when people suggest that the complainers simply lower the brightness/saturation of their monitors. You need to adjust the colors of the games assets INDIVIDUALLY. You cannot simply apply a universal darkening over the whole game.
You can't look at Sozou's video and think that this shows *exactly* what people are clamoring for. Sozou's video is only an approximation of what a darker Diablo could look like. Sozou did his best to give you an *idea* of what a darker Diablo would look like, but it's no where near 100% of what could be done by the actual Blizzard designers themselves.
Complaints about the video looking monotonous and boring could be addressed by the designers by adding full color highlights to certain aspects of the environment and by making sure that skill animations, monsters and characters still have full contrast against a darker background.
I actually forget what D1 looks like because its been so long since I have actually played it. It is sitting in my cabinet getting dusty and with my luck it has CD-Rot like my D2 Lord of Destruction disk had.

I played both videos side by side, I like the original better, the modified version is more grainy and darker but I prefer the sharper graphics. what is the point of it even being 3D like that, if I wanted the grainy graphics I could just stick to D2.
I gotta knock off D2 for a few days, I was just playing it with my peripheral vision while watching a movie. I would rather D3 not look like D2.

Do you want a fucking Diablo game or do you want a good action-rpg without looking to its title?
Every day blizz explains something they removed.I hope at the last they will explain they removed the title also.
I'd like a D3 game that I can jump right into with both feet and have it feel like a step up. I don't really want to look at tired old grainy graphics any more. from what I have seen of D3 so far, I look forward to it.
Of all the action/rpg games I have played D2 is the only one I kept, but it is getting boring...again.

Diablo isn't about looks, its about cool things that happen, monsters, and gear. Did anyone really give a shit what the dungeons looked like? They were a bunch of nonsensical hallways without any real meaning. Look at durance. There is nothing that really shows any purpose for the building except being a haven for evil, no meeting halls, no mess halls, no dorms, nothing. Just a bunch of spikes, skulls, and pits. Now, what I've seen from the trailer shows that the building actually has meaning, theres a bunch of stuff laying about showing that the place actually had a purpose. I played Diablo because of the monsters and the moments where I was on the verge of death, all the while hoping for an epic drop. As far as I can see, I will get the same stuff from Diablo 3. Diverse dungeons just add to the replayability.

Removed from WHAT??!! Horadric Cube never WAS in Diablo 3 to begin with, so how can they remove it? They decide what to PUT in the game, they didn't take Diablo 2 and start removing stuff from it.
I like the edited version, feels more serious. But that doesn't mean I don't like Blizzard's version. I think Blizzard's version looks really good as well. It's just personal preference for me, and if I had a choice, I'd prefer the edited version. With that said, I think it would be cool if Blizzard implemented some option in video settings to allow people to adjust brightness, contrast, hue/sat, grain, hue/sat, etc. Either way, gameplay is much more important and I don't doubt that it's gonna be amazing.
All they are doing is replacing bad features with good ones. There is no sense in worrying. Just chill. They wont let us down. A beta test with a bunch of hardcore diabloers will fixify any issues.
I wasn't crazy about this version, it seemed a little dead, I've actually come to like the new vibrant colours in Diablo III, it makes the whole scene feel more alive, not stale and cold like before. I agree it could use a little darkening, and they went overboard with the greens and blues, but I think that will all be fixed in due time. I have a nagging suspicion that the prime reason everything was dark and grainy in Diablo II was that it didn't have much to show off when seen with full clarity. Now they've created a game world that has tons to show off, what is the point of making it all dark? It would be like leaving all of Van Gogh's beautiful art to just wallow in a dimly lit room.

Sorry but i don't want a B'n W environment.
I doubt they had concrete back then.
It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
