Don't just think about yourself here, think "most players would prefer...."
I'm not thinking about anyone at all, I was just stating my observation. Either way, in D2 all hotkeyed spells were mostly two 'keypresses' away unless you constantly spam a single spell which only worked with some classes and sometimes.
If the spell cast was instantaneous with hitting the hotbar, that would mean that you cannot select spells from the hotbar with your mouse, because you can't aim and select at the same time? They said they want the game to be playable with just the mouse.

That is not exactly true. In D2 it takes 1 press of a hotkey to select the new skill and then you can use it as much as you want with 1 click until you need another one. So if you wanted to use fireball 5 times it would be six button presses. If your idea of the new system were in place and you did not have it linked to the mouse button it would take 10 button presses.

This is completely false as shown in the gameplay video. During the witchdoctor segment when they add the zombie wall to the hotbar they do so by clicking on a skill slot in the hotbar. That brings up the pool of skills so he can switch to a different one.

That quote is being totally taken out of context.
What he meant was that because of the way they have set up the extra mouse skill (use the mouse wheel to switch to the back up skill) it can be played with just the mouse. However if you did you wouldn't be using the hotbar skills. He even said this in an interview way back. The gist was that the game could be played with just the mouse for a while so new people can get the hang of it but then they would need to start using the hotbar to be able to use all their skills more effectively.

What is false? Can you click on a skill with your mouse while aiming or can't you??? Who cares if it brings a pool of skills you can assign to the hotkey. If you are mousing over the hotbar to select a skill, you can't also be mousing over a monster at the same time, given that skill casting from the hotbar is instantaneous.

No it's not! It's in relation to what I previously said. You can aim and use your keyboard at the same time, but if you select skills from your hotbar with your mouse, you cannot aim at the same time. There, I repeated it 3 times, hope it got through to your brain.

I never see him use the mouse to click on the hotbar in the gameplay video but there is a chance that you can click on the hotbar skills with your mouse and then aim and click again to use the skills. This seems absurdly inefficient but some people don't use key-binds for some reason.
I do think for gameplay reasons though the hotbar will be used to automatically use skills/cast spells without having to click with the mouse. Of course you could just play the game using the mouse, however I believe that using the keyboard and mouse will yield the best results. It wouldn't really make sense to have a hotbar, and not be able to just press those keys to use the skills instantly.
It seems like adding an extra step where you have to click a mouse button at actually use the skill would detract from the responsiveness of the combat. In D2 this method was acceptible because you were really only using 1 or 2 skills at any given time, but to use many different skills and the need in combat to use the skills in very quick succession would lend itself to an instant cast system, where you could aim with your mouse and use the skills in the hotbar instantly just by pressing the key.
You obviously didn't understand a thing I said.

Wow, I give up. Just because you say something wrong over and over doesn't make it true. I keep providing logical proof to debunk your idea and you keep coming up with "well it would work anyways" excuses. I am definitely going to come back to this thread and make fun of you when this made crystal clear by the devs.

Since when is someone's logical thinking called proof?
Your post was retarded because I asked a simple question: can you or can you not select a spell from the hotbar with your mouse while simultaneously aiming with it, and you said that it is false (?) and bring up the pool of skills that shows up when you assign them to the hotbar, which has nothing to do with the topic. I stated my logical view of things, and you 'debunk' it by bringing up something completely random and disconnected from the discussion in an attempt to somehow discredit me because you don't like hearing what I say. Stop using 'logical proof' and preference to 'debunk' what I said - rather come up with another idea or explain to me that my observation was incorrect otherwise.

Playing the demo version of Diablo III, right off the bat I noticed something familiar. Hot key #1-6 on your key board are reserved for spells/skills casting. Much like the free online RPG game 2moons, you are able to cast a spell with a quick touch of any of the designated hotkey space.
Yes I am very petty and came back here just to say, lol Dimebog was wrong, blah, blah, blah, etc.
you put into words most of what i feel and think of the series, although i LOVED diablo 2, i very much disliked some of the outdoor areas. While i was there i felt like i needed to run and look for the dungeons, and just skip past most of the mobs or grind through them for items. Diablo 3 makes me WANT to kill everything...in experimental and creative ways.
Hopefully teleport wont be overpowered, but it seems like blizzard balanced it. The solution is in the orbs. Mana is regained through orbs, so if you waste it all teleporting, you cant cast spells to kill things to get more mana! Way to go blizzard, very efficient solution to the problem.
Consider this:
Get a group of 4 wizards to do a 2x2 block of time slows on some noob zombies
Herd them to the middle.
Use various spells to annihilate, melt, explode, disintegrate, knock them around
Watch your carnage up close and in slow motion.
Can you say amazing?
