Gone for me too, first time as well. Last time someone said it was gone, it wasn't.
-Could be Blizzard updating the site (for whatever reason) forgot to put it back
-Could be Blizzard removing it accidentally.
-Could be Blizzard removing it after 1000's of people here bad mouthed them for no real reason.
I am not fond of associating myself with people who continually spout abuse at me for no reason, nor do they articulate their arguments in a coherent or concise way.
Could be any number of reasons. I am not quick to jump on the removed link forever bad wagon just yet, give it a day or two, to see if it reappears again.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
I've seen very well moderated websites much bigger than this one... it's not the people, it's the administration, and I am not really sure anymore who up there is screwing this website up.

It IS the fault of the administration. But truth be told - it is only because they are trying to run the site professionally. You can't silence and gag people no matter how annoying and unreasonable they are, for there are no rules against being annoying and unreasonable.
Not surprising considering the amount of discussions that get turned into wars against blizzard's game is like 80% of the threads here. This is also where the online petition originated.

There is nothing professional about how this website is run. On the contrary.
It is common knowledge that the admin is nowhere to be found. Is that professional? It is also said that moderators prefer to moderate reported posts only. Is that professional? Hell no.

How about we just ban all the flamers, for starters?
I don't know why Blizzard removed dfans but if they did it because of all the bedlam on here I can easily understand them. This could be a great place but it failed at that task - the administration was not ready. Not ready at all. They had no moderators, they had no strong team that could tackle this input. They had no big enough server to support avatars. Simply not ready.
I don't think there is a problem with the administration, maybe you are saying that because you think you would be better at doing their job ? I think not.
They let people express their free speech. They can't just delete every thread that criticism Diablo 3. I would have been the first to leave.
Actually, the diablo3.com link was a courtesy of Blizzard when we gave them that domain. They put it up on there so people who hadn't visited this site in a while wouldn't lose their bookmarks and would know that diablofans.com was the new URL. It was never promised to be a permanent link on diablo3.com. The removal has nothing to do with fan comments or anything of that nature; Blizzard is far more professional than that and they've been nothing but extremely receptive to this great community we have going here.
So many naysayers on here

Which admin are you talking about? If you're talking about Umaro, he just moved and has a lot going on but I'm always around if people need to get in touch.

Well, I suppose you are saying you are actually happy with the state dfans is in right now? I guess I can't say much about that. But last time I checked, mods were saying something about being overwhelmed and I noticed no new ones.
I don't know what Umaro is doing or why, but if there is a website, it needs to be run, end of story. Ranging from bugs to user control to server capacity. Someone has to fix all that, but nobody is. I guess you are just fine with how it is right now.

I'm the kind of guy who never looks at a web site as a finished project... it's something that constantly grows and changes if you do it right. I can't say much now, but we have a lot planned for making Diablofans.com even better in the future. But hey, feel free to continue making sarcastic remarks if it helps you sleep better at night.
One thing I've learned in all my years working on the web is you can't please everybody... all you can do is try to make a site that most people enjoy being on. Me, I'm really happy with this web site and how we've established such a strong Diablo discussion community. I also see far more potential for what it can be further on down the road and have every intention of seeing that we deliver on that.
Umaro just moved to a different country and has a lot going on, so you'll have to excuse him if he's been a tad busy lately.
Ehh... I dont think they removed the link because of the flamers on this site.
I think these forums are about a 100x better than the official battle.net forums for Diablo III.
What Mockery says makes sense.
Addendum by Medievaldragon: Mockery replied about the link removal here.

You would have to be mad to link to a troll site dedicated to trashing your company 24/7.
It's finally gone, haha.
