That isn't the issue anymore. Whether there will actually be LAN or not is irrelevant. What is relevant is the fools who would simply accept (even welcome) the lack of LAN functionality in diablo 3. Those who make up false arguments about every single thing blizzard does, twisting it to appear just and correct, when in reality blizzard has made a number of terrible decisions about diablo 3 already. It's very revealing when even the most outrageous of negative changes (no LAN funcionality, pay2play, microtransactions, regardless of whether they are actually going to happen or not) are accepted, even welcomed, as positive ones.
Look, I know that you obviously stand on your side of the opinion, but you can't expect everyone to be on the same mind set as you are. You guys are arguing about a point that is now considered by the debaters as quote "irrelevant". So basically your arguing about the fact that they are not thinking the way you are on this subject and that they should.
They in return might be thinking that the "terrible decisions" you are referring to were positive and welcomed changes. All opinions are true to their holders, but are not always true to others. You guys might as well debate facts instead of launching attacks on each other's hypotheses based on personal opinions. At least that way there could be a positive outcome from the debate instead of this crap.."Oh you're egotistical....Oh you're Ignorant...You're crying about everything... WTF is that. It looks like a bad marital situation, why don't you guys get a fucking room and kiss N makeup.
Lets try to be a little more constructive and on subject instead of word raping everything that moves. You guys can have different opinions on the subject without resulting to petty insults. Give facts and acknowledge each other's points then refute them respectfully.
Lan has its uses and we can't deny that, thus the D3 demo was able to be played during BlizzCon08. It's failures and shortcomings are also quite obvious. Which one outweighs the other, that's hard to say since we don't even know if there is such a need from Blizzard of eliminating the Lan feature.

Dude that's exactly what I am talking about. Having LAN support in a game makes it easy to make a real private server. Otherwise it would be impossible to make an exact replica.
Dimebog needs to take piracy education classes, he just doesn't know what he's talking about. Bottom line: Removal of LAN => Less sales. That's all it would do.
Wow, your knowledge of these things is supreme! You apparently know much better than Blizzard! Imagine where they would have been today if only you were making decisions for them... P.S. Lol, 'piracy education'.

I'm usually not considered a skeptical person, but could you tell me who would choose not to purchase such an immense title in gaming simply because it doesn't include LAN capabilities.
I am somewhat of a would be LAN supporter myself since I've played LAN before a few times, but nothing serious really. I'm thinking what's wrong with LAN, but then again I've never had a LAN party or whatever that is, consequently my opinion on it would be based on the fact, that aside from gaming I have no knowledge of programming and even less of piracy. Therefor I wouldn't be able to point out the actual risk of having a feature such as LAN in an online game and weigh it against the pros of having an extra gaming mode.
However I do not believe in the slightest way that a removal of such a system would have a negative impact on sales. I do believe that whoever is hyped by the future release of such a great title that is Diablo would need a substantially larger let down than LAN removal. (if it is even what was stated in the interview which we cant confirm yet)
Would LAN removal deteriorate me from buying it, no. Could you, in all honesty, Equinox say that you wouldn't buy it either. I doubt it, but I would like to hear what you have to say on that!

Or there's the alternative of Open Battle.net, which I'm pretty sure wasn't un-confirmed).

If you're planning on getting a legitimate copy of D3, you'll just be able to play with your friends through Battle.net.
*sigh*
We should make a FAQ explaining why Battle.net and LAN is not the same so that all the anti-piracy lawful slaves would stop making idiot assumptions.
"I don't care about anyone really so let's remove LAN despite how easy it is to put it in."
We all know most people play on battle.net. Fine. But some of us don't. Give us LAN, please.
By your logic, Blizzard should never do games like DIII. WoW's lot more popular... most people play WoW... most people play on Bnet... so let's just make WoW.
you fail miserably understanding my logic because you're blindly supporting yours.
What i'm saying is that:
1) whoever is whining about it has no reason to, because he has internet. The people that want to play LAN because they cant afford/get access to a connection cant say a thing.
After making that clear, we should start questioning the reason they keep asking for LAN.
It was the only way to pirate the game yet still be able to play multiplayer. If you care about Singleplayer only you dont need LAN anyway.
2) When you play LAN one of the computers connected acts as a server. That alone gives enough information to experienced hackers about the data flow of the game to the official servers, making the way easier to hacking them.
Weird how no private server in WoW works right, eh? And its 4 years old already.
That last comment about my logic and how Blizzard shouldnt make games like Diablo is completely crap and without sense at all. From my comment you understood that? You're either stupid or too drunk to understand what i'm saying.
I was always for a free multiplayer part, but i dont want the exact same thing as i had in Diablo 2. I want more. That doesnt mean i want to pay monthly for it, I just want at least the security i had (and still have) in WoW. And the possibility to save myself from spammers or any kind of idiots who spoil the game (through bots, hacks and anything else that isnt supposed to be in the game behavior wise).

that you understood from talking to a few kids in a forum and from your limitless marketing experience, no doubt.
Its very obvious there isnt anything that points in that direction.
You know how battle.net was kept alive that long? Because it had people on it. And mostly because of Starcraft and Warcraft 3 (regular too but mostly DotA). The more people on the servers the more income they can have from advertising (the little banner on top, yeah), thus keeping the service free without having problems with the server maintenance.
Now, if LAN helps people abuse any security holes on the system and hack/cheat on closed realms, that would definitely shoo people from playing. Remember how during the time of serious duping the game was unplayable?
Probably not, as i remember you didnt play or like Diablo 2.
anyway, the thing is that the ones that would pirate the game, will do it again anyway. Keeping LAN off will make it impossible for them to play the game with others but it will also help keep the secutiry of the closed realms intact.
1) whoever is whining about it has no reason to, because he has internet. The people that want to play LAN because they cant afford/get access to a connection cant say a thing.
I played LAN. Wow, I have no internet now. Didn't know that. Thanks for telling me.
And don't forget to tell that to the LAN party people.

Absolutely, because those hackers never saw LAN in all other games and never hacked it and Blizzard has some weird unusual form of LAN that was specifically made to simulate the effect of bnet servers loool...
And let's forget about LAN and outside server functioning in an entirely different manner. Let's not forget about LAN chars being stored on HD while online chars stored on outside databases.
Just because someone once told you that LAN makes one of the computers become a server doesn't mean you know anything about the real thing, OK?

Please. Go take a fucking internet security course in college or something and please understand this simple concept:
LAN and Online Servers such as bnet are not in any way related and having one does NOT help hack another.
Did I make myself clear?
If you throw idiotic statements like that around, don't even talk about anything like this, you don't know ANYTHING.
I expected more from you, Fingolfr. But, please, don't talk about internet security. Don't even go there.
what i notice in your post is that still except from being negative towards my points, you say nothing to prove yours right. Or mine wrong except telling they are so.
Right, i expected more from you too, Equinox (yeah, at least i typed your name right too, among other things).
as for the one point you "tried" to make, lets counter it, shall we?
Absolutely, because those hackers never saw LAN in all other games and never hacked it and Blizzard has some weird unusual form of LAN that was specifically made to simulate the effect of bnet servers loool...
i was talking about the data flow towards the servers. Most times people duplicated items, it happened by overloading the servers (doing things that generally bring the servers apart). Its much easier to simulate it in a lan party than on the official servers. Because they're being monitored aswell.
And the battle.net servers as we know them are quite basic at the moment. Expect something more of battle.net 2.
And let's forget about LAN and outside server functioning in an entirely different manner. Let's not forget about LAN chars being stored on HD while online chars stored on outside databases.
read closely my previous post and you'll notice that i didnt say anything about stats. I said things about server security and dupes. Thats much more important and the gaming experience for us legit users drops to zero (i know i quit playing at the time the duping was going on because it was completely unplayable). And its us legit players that Blizzard wants to keep to the game. The rest can go screw themselves with Blizzards and my own blessing.
Just because someone once told you that LAN makes one of the computers become a server doesn't mean you know anything about the real thing, OK?
and just because you say me its another way i should believe you? I'm not too inexperienced in that kind of stuff myself but i'm mostly a good listener. And believe me, i know from many talks i had whats closer to the truth.
And truth is that it makes it easier to understand how to overload the servers and lan isnt that important because its going to be an even better experience over battle.net.
LAN and Online Servers such as bnet are not in any way related and having one does NOT help hack another.
Learn to read please. I told a hundred times already.
Or wait, its "learn to understand". Because apparently you can read the words, you just cant figure their meaning.
If you throw idiotic statements like that around, don't even talk about anything like this, you don't know ANYTHING
Now thats starting to look like flaming. I know it's your hobby to flame (i read quite a few topics, i just rarely bother to reply) but thats not going to give you a good name. Especially if you start flaming because you cant make your point.
I have found that battle.net does not seem to play that well from Australia, has anyone else found this and do you think we will then have a problem playing d3? LAN was my fav thing about d2 but will be a little worried about battle.net not providing the same experience due to being in oz *sigh*
Just because someone once told you that LAN makes one of the computers become a server doesn't mean you know anything about the real thing, OK?
Actual LOL. Nice.

Server Security.
You guys should really leave this kind of subject to people who actually know about it (professionally) and are either responsible for creating it, fixing it or hacking it. Having a bunch of mature men argue over hearsay isn't really productive.
