Hiya, I just have one question, Whats exactly is the Art debate for D3 about? I cant seem to find anything on it other than, "OMG it's teh sux" Or "I dont see what the problem is", just want to know what the trouble is...
I don't see how you could miss it. Just do a quick forum search for "art debate."
Basically people that don't like it believe that Blizzard is making it look more like WoW to make it easier on themselves and to gain a larger audience. Thus, they are apparently neglecting their "true" fans. Very simply put, they think the game is too colorful.
Some people love the new art direction (myself included).
Some people don't love the new direction but are waiting to see more before they make asses of themselves assuming the entire game will suck based on a 20 minute demo.

Don't bother adding to the already ongoing pointless debate. I tried to end it with 'aggressive' negotiations, turned out I got my second ban from it...
And you missed it. Here I figured, after your openning statement, you'd know a whole bunch about it. But naturally...
... you didn't have to bother with other people's concerns...
For instance... arguments I've heard...
1. Shoulder pads are overscaled.
2. Gargoyles are happy and cute.
3. Rainbows in the waterfall.
4. Outdoor world looks like a painting.
5. Anime-esque mentality of big=epic.
6. Dungeon uses green rather than black to portray darkness.
7. Female counterparts are too 'sexy'.
8. Barbarian special attacks are over done (looks anime-esque/magical).
9. Game is too bright.
10. Contrast is too low.
11. Graphics look plastic and carved (like WoW)
Now. I don't agree with all of them, and you don't have to - but atleast you're better informed.
... because all you really needed to concern yourself with was the angle that: clearly naysayers involved in the art debate are conspiratorial, presumptuous, self-minded, and above all else... asses.
And now you can feel superior for being above all that by loving the new art direction - or simply not being all that involved in it.
I didn't say any of that. I DID add the disclaimer "VERY SIMPLY PUT." But the fact is, everyone IS being overly aggressive about this. Both sides. I didn't want to go into the specific list of issues people have because they're everywhere.
I didn't say anything about naysayers being conspiratorial, presumptuous, etc. Yes, some of them are, but I never said anything to lump everyone into that category. There are some very good points that the naysayers have made. I just think they're wrong, and many are kind of being asses about it.
We cool? Lol.

I'm surprised that this thread hasn't degenerated into trolling. Thank you everyone. Makes my stay in these parts more worthwhile. I had expected to post a one line "STFU" type post, but didn't!
With the next Blizzard event coming up very soon I suspect we'll have something new to troll about soon.

So we've got over the problem of colour in D3. Great. Now let's argue about everything else not yet set in stone and help make this game simply great! Game on.
If I remember correctly the big problem was that while the male barbarian was old and weathered, the female looked young - and despite being a melee/str character, has a very girlish figure.
That's because the male is older. He's the same guy that was running around twenty years ago. Whereas the female is a new person. Of course she's younger.

While the male witchdoctor looks feeble and decrpit, the female witch doctor is a sexy bitch (affirmative action anyone?).
I suppose your definition of sexy bitch is your own. When I watched it that didn't pop into my mind. I can't find a good screen cap and I'm at work so I can't rewatch the vid now.

In diablo 2, there is no male standard with which to base the female characters off of. In Diablo 3, they establish a canon with the male characters, and break it with the female. Meanwhile, the character design makes more sense considering what the female characters do in D2.
They break the established cannon when it is necessary. As in the Barb.
How does it make anymore sense in D2? Look at the Necro skinny pale and weak looking. Look at the Sorc. "Well padded in the appropriate places!" They are both primary casters. The druid is supposedly out in nature surviving for himself yet he's skinny as hell and looks like he wouldn't last a week. He should be lot more muscular. The Assasin is a killing machine yet she looks like nothing but T&A.
I think you're putting the past on way to big a pedestal.

My statements were in response to intrinsik4's post about the differences in appearence between the males and females I see nothing wrong with the appearences from D2 or D3. I was just pointing them out to illustrate that fact.

Well I think that D3 looks great, it took Several views of the gameplay video to see it all, every time I watched it I saw something I missed before. to me this says that it will be much more engaging to play.
just the fact that it is actually 3D is a HUGE plus!
I thought the contrast in the dungeon looked very good, you could see enough to make your way through it but it still had the feeling of being in a dungeon.

I'm getting really annoyed! True diablo fans would be happy no matter what it looks like.
Oh, no you don't. We're not starting this "debate" again.
I'll keep this thread open for now, but if it starts getting out of hand (just like the others did), I'll close this in a heartbeat.

Guess they don't count when looking at Diablo 3 though...
I just find it funny how similar Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 are from what we have seen, yet nobody points out these similarities...
Negative mind set folks, negative mindset. Think oceans and clowns and happy!
