There's no way diablo will fail in terms of sales. I'd give it a 30-40% chance of succeeding in terms of all elements of play remaining true to the diablo universe (besides the artwork, which is clearly not). It doesn't matter though, because Blizzard's new target is the WoW type gamer, and remaining true the franchise is secondary to profit. Smart business model, huge failure to the fans that loved this company from the beginning.
Yes, because Diablo 1 was just like Diablo 2 in terms of gameplay....
Diablo 1
------------
3 Classes
No defined set of skills, but a generic spellbook
Many levels within the same area
Diablo was the only real boss
Stats, although randomized, were not to long
Diablo 2 + LOD
------------
5 Different classes
Class specific skills, 3 trees per class
5 Acts with a boss at the end of each act
Charms
Gems
Runes
Stats were insane sometimes averaging 5+ stats per item
Many different variations of the world (dungeon, desert, jungle, ect...)
Added boot, glove slot
Added potion belt
shrines
designated quests per act
I would say that Diablo 2 succeeded about 40 - 50% in copying all aspects of gameplay. Many... MANY things where changed with Diablo 2. This is to be expected with Diablo 3 as well, and in fact I am suprised that Diablo 3 is sticking as close to Diablo 2 as it is.
I don't think you know what you are talking about.
Those shoulder pads are a tad big, but they probably weigh less because they are mostly constructed of leather, and if you look underneath, fur. If you consider the ergonomics of his armor you will see that it looks as comfortable as an armor could be. "Oh, but he could get stabbed through the heart." Yes he could but that means he is willing to give up that protection for better torso flexibility. Which would make the barbarians vicious attacks even more effective with better range of motion. Can you imagine trying to WW with a giant chest plate? The higher the shoulder pads the better, they parry slashes to the head rather effectively. As for the belt, well lets just hope there is a belly flop skill.

Actually, what frightens me is not that he leaves his chest open to attack, but that his groin is open to attack.
What I know about combat knife fighting is basically applied to any other weapon as well. Aim for the head or the groin. You hit those and your target is permanently out of the fight.

He should at least wear leather pants.
There as well, he has sacrificed groin protection for speed. Hes probably confident in his ability to block low blows
Ahh, I know what that belt is for... hugging demons
Hmmm, I think a funny sight would be questing in hell (I'm assuming you go there again) and to see a totally unarmored barb just fly past your party yelling absurdities and jumping about whilst being chased by a legion of hell spawn.
It'd make me lol till I rofled
His neck is exposed too, so is his face which are much easier targets, although I think you said face already. In a somewhat funny twist of irony the big shoulders + spikes actually protect the sides of his neck and his windpipe from being crushed by a standard elbow strike.
You'd have quite a hard time stabbing anyone on the inside of their thigh really. Especially considering people fighting tend to not stand square to an opponent (at least in martial arts, don't know what they teach in D3 barb school), thus the thigh plates will more likely than not be facing his opponent. This forces anyone attacking the groin to have to move around your legs to get a decent strike and makes such an attack easy to block / sidestep / avoid.
This is off topic but fun.
He isn't wearing a helm, so you can see his face. His biggest enemies would probably be spears, javelins, and arrows. They would be harder to stop let alone notice. But his fighting style pretty much compensates for his openings I'd say.
Anyone else sick of kids on forums telling us what size of shoulder pads are regulation size for a Diablo game?
Even I find them a little large but yes, I'm still tired of reading about it over and over.
It's not like if I log in and see the shoulder pads I'm going to take my disc out and snap it in half. Slightly smaller shoulder pads is not really going to change the game play. It's a small cosmetic difference that I would only care about for about 8 minutes either way and then continue to play.
As long as they have a slimmer melee class that looks classy in it's armor and not a big piece of meat, for instance a Knight or Paladin would be nice, I don't really care how ginormous the Barbarian is, and accept his huge shoulder pads because it's good variety guys. That's what it is all about, and you know it, you know it Daemero don't lie.

Of course! Variety is always a good thing.
I'm sure there will be some sort of slimmer melee class. The barbarian is huge because well... he's a barbarian. When's the last time you saw one that didn't have biceps on his biceps?

Somewhat, but even people who like the art direction are sick of you and your idiotic trolling. At least a few of your allies have some decent arguments.

Read both of these art threads and you'll see about 20 posts of argument from me. I haven't seen you make a single reasonable point about anything. Pretty close to putting you on ignore actually, and I haven't even been the one arguing with you.

You're not reading the threads then.
And please put me on ignore. I'm already tired of you calling me a troll in multiple threads because you have nothing real to add.
I don't know what to say. lol there is no green light. If you can't understand this simple concept there is no point in you even arguing your point because it's based on wrong information.
Somewhat of an intra-thread necro, but that is bullshit. It's not a matter of opinion. The stones are not green. The sourceless lighting on the walls and ground is. End of story.

It's more that his femoral artery is exposed.
If you cut that you're dead.

Well in all fairness, I'm sure as hell not going to get close enough to try to cut those.
While he's flailing around with huge axes and dodging/parrying things.
Most of his protection is on his arms because he uses those to swing and he relies on a strong offense to boost his defense.
At least that's what I think.
