One of the most compelling thoughts comes in around the end. When he says that the problem with all of them is that if you put them all up next to each other you wont be able to even tell that they are different areas. I think that sums up why they are the creators and we are the players.

I had not seen this url yet. Perhaps I just missed it because of the way the threads run, but I'm glad this was posted.
After looking at the developers' screenshots, and then the photoshopped ones, I came to the conclusion that I much prefer the way the dev team is doing the art direction. I didn't see any reason at all to believe that the photoshopped versions of the screenshots were equal or better in any way.
What the team is saying makes good sense to me and the more its members speak out on their reasons and justifications, the more I sympathize with their position.
For the most part I agree with him, but not on every point.
That's the lamest way of saying "we don't want to bear additional costs to give diablo 3 a new artistic direction as screamed by thousands of diablo 2 fanatics."
Blizzard could have made the environment darker and the characters more saturated and detailed to propel the character at the center of attention.
Instead they chose the easier way. That's pathetic

Boo-hoo, I hear the wambulence coming! Of course, Blizzard is pathetic because you didn't get what you wanted.
At least Jay Wilson knows that the overwhelming Silent Majority of fans are not upset with what they have seen so far.
He argued in a very reasonable way, without ridiculing the colour trolls. Shows that Blizzard do listen and the confidence of his reply shows that a lot of thought has gone into the colour "direction" of D3.
Vote of confidence in Blizzard from me.

So we've got over the problem of colour in D3. Great. Now let's argue about everything else not yet set in stone and help make this game simply great! Game on.
You are blindly trusting Blizzard and taking everything they are offering to you.
Gamers gotta fight to get the best of games, not accept everything that game devs throw in front of them.
Here's where you fail, It's already the best game to me so I don't have to fight for anything. I don't have a single issue with Blizzard on how the development of Diablo III is going thus far. Right, you guys fought REAL hard and where did that get you? No where, why? Because there's nothing wrong with Diablo III, if that's a problem go back to Diablo II and don't buy this game, no one is going to hold your hand nor care what you decide. If Blizzard constantly listened to people like you, they'd be bankrupt. Are you sure that I'm the blind one? It seems you're the one that's got your head so far up your ego that you feel the right to tell Blizzard how to make their own game is soley yours, shame welcome to life, it doesn't work like that.
he's telling in the most pictures that they didn't decided to do the game darker because you couldn't see the character well, problems with profiles etc etc. it sound like a pretty simple excuse and i'm sure that they could do the game darker if they put some low light radius around the hero and tables etc. I don't have anything in common against the colour pallette or the rainbows just telling y'all that they light thing was a weak excuse.
Just another thing ::: Did you realy thought that the WD was a zombie ??
did you not read what he had to say. its nearly impossible with the technology we have right now to have a 3d light radius like we did in the 2d diablo 2
there is a huge difference between photoshop and what can actually be done

you have only seen TWO areas
if you think there is only 2 areas, why do you follow this game?
30 mins of 2 areas does not compare to the thousands of hours people will be playing in hopefully hundreds of areas
and I wish d3 was cellshaded
team fortress 2 style is pro (tfc kiddies complained about the art change then too, but they shut up after playing it)
and the new prince of persia looks amazing in its newly art-changed world

I don't see how graphics break the game. Especially this game. Blizzard made a good case to justify their decision. Monotony is boring. And those photoshopped images are a testament to that. Besides, I don't see a reason not to trust Blizzard. All the games of their three franchises are best-sellers and have earned numerous awards and praise from the masses. Not only that, but I have personally played each one and I have been thoroughly satisfied with each. You're just knit-picking where no knits need to be picked.

wind waker used cell shading... diablo 3 looks like it uses cell shading.. dont know what is look it up. thats what gives the cartoony appearance.
No, this is cell shading.
Watch a D3 video. No bold outlines on the models. They don't resemble cartoon characters in the slightest. In fact, watch the developer walkthrough and when he zooms in on the barbarian, it's extremely photorealistic. You could not be more wrong.

May the Dragon protect them...
When I looked at that photoshop? No.
But if it all started to animate with Diablo's fast-paced gameplay and with "seven other players and dozens of monsters", maybe I would.
He clearly states any and everything that would be wrong with making D3 look like these 'shopped pics.
Just gives less ammo to the crowd who like to think Blizzard had no reasons whatsoever.
It's time to welcome the other 80% of the color wheel to a Diablo game.

You're saying they're both great games?
Oh wait. You must be saying D3 is cartoony.
How droll.

You think D3 looks cel-shaded.
That's funny. I mean...REALLY. Rich.
And the idea that you'd think I'd need to look it up. Even funnier.
As if I need to look it up to know how wrong you are. It would seem as though YOU need to re-acquaint yourself with the definition.
