So I was checking the Diablo 3 website and I saw their new Statue News section. I clicked it and this is what it said
Commemorating the exciting announcement of Diablo III, Blizzard Entertainment and Sideshow Collectibles are proud to introduce the Diablo III Premium Statue series with its epic first release. Unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con 2008.
"Overthrown" depicts a mighty barbarian atop the conquered Diablo, shouting towards the High Heavens in vicious triumph
Originally you could argue it wasn't him. The situation has now been cleared up.
As the Barbarian is standing over one head, you can also assume that the new diablo only has one head. Which quells rumours he has more than one. A rumour that to me sounded pretty silly. As I never saw three heads, I was not nor am I still convince that there is 3 "mouths". The so called other two mouths just look like shoulders of a demon, which can be any size, shape or form.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
I'm still gonna say its not him, Its not like diablo to yell like that, diablo has always been silent and usually tries to distence himself from people letting his minions do the work.

Idk, something seems fishy. It dose'nt seem like a Blizzard thing to do. Just openly name the main boss like that. When before they said "just because the game is called Diablo does not mean he will make an appearance" (paraphrase). My question is this: If the demon really wasn't diablo then what would they have called it in that article?
That seems contradictory to the fact that Mephisto told him to assume his true form in the Act 4 cinematic of Diablo II.

well I'm hoping for no diablo in this game...well..not until the VERY end of the game leading to the expansion...Diablo is meant to be the last boss...an expansion to the game...just makes him useless like in D2, nothing special about him...I'm hoping blizzard learned there lessons
If anyone has played Baldur's Gate II will know, that during on point in the game, a character manifests into a hulking unstopable killing machine, this transformation is due most in part to said character losing their soul or essence. Their body ungoes a change and turns into something quite unlike their usual self. Perhaps this new Diablo is the result of the old Diablo losing something, or perhaps gaining something.
While I am generally opposed to the mutation idea, I am struggling to find another word that best conveys the same point, but doesn't sounds as weird as mutating.

Diablo and his brothers has been assimilating human souls through the power of the Soulstones. It's somehow not too surprising that this would cause their bodies to look different from one game to another.
Agreed. However they are now in the Black Abyss and the soulstones destroyed. So I guess you could say this is how he looks in the absence of a soulstone/possession of a host body.
Also as the books describe, they can assume any form they want. Diablo and Mephisto do this on multiple occasions. So it is possible he looks this way because he felt like it, or to achieve some end. Unlike some "greater evils" in fantasy the Prime Evils are really quite cunning and manipulative. Baal posing as Tyrael (in disguise as a man) in Diablo 2 for example.

Could be diablos offspring or something.
On the contrary, should one reminisce past events, one does indeed find the demon to enjoy the occasional howl. Consider the hundredth second of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w44SmMFy5Dc

The two mouths which confused some are probably just part of his shoulders

Go take a look at this thread
Diablo's personality
It's time for Diablo to step out of the shadows and become a real demon not just some red Godzilla throwing lighting and fire at you.
It's time for Terror to show us what it's really made of.
Why does Mr.D look different from previous games?
Petition anyone? Just kidding.
Fuck you, I'm a dragon.
