I am surprised a mod here would even bother to start the same thread again. Just another excuse to allow the trolls to vent.
The good thing is that the debate has descended into really pathetic blobby colouring efforts using MS Paint from Windows 3.1. So folks at Blizzard will be even more inclined to laugh at the lamers.

So we've got over the problem of colour in D3. Great. Now let's argue about everything else not yet set in stone and help make this game simply great! Game on.
I'm SO happy that they announced the art direction is staying the course. Why?
1) It will allow the whiners to get all of their panties in a bunch, and most of them will either leave - cleaning out our forums in the process - or get some sense knocked into them.
2) Have we seen what the rest of the game looks like? No. Have we seen one dungeon constructed for the express purpose of a gameplay demo and a small section of the Leoric Highlands? Yes. Do we know what other dungeons and deeper parts of the game will give us visually? No.
You need to either sit on your hands and wait patiently like the rest of us, or GTFO. This place is all about the constructive exchange of ideas. No one wants to come on here and wade through post after post whining about which color they'd like to see more/less of.
Check the sig.

It's time to welcome the other 80% of the color wheel to a Diablo game.
Does art direction also include oversized and ridiculous armor pieces, displaced colors and unrealistic objects that make the game less immersive?
Amount of color is nice. How they use it is NOT.
Part marked as '2': So the dungeon and outdoor area in the trailer has only ridiculous green coloring and clorful vegetation around cursed undead creatures because it was for the trailer? (Just examples.)
The trailer is supposed to show us what the places in the game will look like. Why would it be inaccurate to criticize the game according to the places in the gameplay trailer?
Art direction includes armor look, color use, and object models. Whether or not you like them and whether or not you think they are "unrealistic" is hardly basis enough to change it.
The way they're using the color is just your opinion. No facts here.
And now, for the finale: They released a gamePLAY trailer. Not gameLOOK trailer. Sure, it gave you an idea of how the visuals were going to appear, but it was more about the gameplay. The nitty gritty of how you were going to play the game.

They only said the art direction is not changing. The items do not count towards the art direction. Items can be of different size, length and color. So they can modify it however they want. And I do think Bizzard will change them.
Now a trailer is suppose to show gameplay and showoff graphic technology. Not very effective for Diablo 3 to show a gameplay trailer where the area is as dark as the catacombs. Lets admit it, the environment inside Dungeons and Caves are damn boring. The grass areas of Act 1 is basically floor painted green. It has been 20 peaceful years in the sanctuary, and Blizzard is not foolish enough to show a gameplay trailer of an already corrupted area. They won't spoil anything for you, so to start the fans off with, show the early stages of the game, where the land is corrupting, but not fully Corrupted. Then we can contrast between beautiful and horrible.

Umm... no. Item design is part of an art direction. But yes, whether they will change it or not is still possible. While they have said that their current art direction and vision wont change, that doesn't mean that "minor" issues such as item design wont be tweaked or changed.
Although I do hope that they go... I'm going to die for this wont I? Nope not happening. I hope that they keep armor and weapons proportional, at least to a degree. Call me sexist or whatever, but I don't mind large over sized armor and weapons odd for males, but it looks funky on females. I hope they tone down the shoulder pads on the female barb specifically.

weapon design (size and shapes) definetly is in the art section
and how do you explain me the weird silly green lit dungeons? thats and art direction choice. they game might get darker but it doesnt mean the later dungeons wont have silly lightining

Alright. Showing Diablo 3 gameplay for the first time in front of millions and millions of people. Would you want bright light in the dungeon, or pure darkness like the caves in the catacombs. What color would allow you to see properly, yet keep the "spooky" feeling in the game. A color that is realistic, and can be reflected off walls. Red? Blue? Orange? Pink? Green? When you have a shiny white light surrounded by green vegetation. The walls itself will be green. The dungeons will obviously have green vegetation of some sort (if you want the logical explanation for having green light) or that blizzard picked that color to keep the creepiness yet still allow audience to see environment clearly (if you want business explanation),
A lot of games (especially first person) nowadays have dungeons, dark dungeons. Often times, we see a green lit in the cave. I can already name you 2 games that have these properties, and these games are at least 16+, with one being 17+ (I think). Dark Messiah Might and Magic is a farely new and popular first person action game. For those who haven't tried it, its basically the elder scrolls but not RPG. The dungeon areas have greenish environment due to the light and vegetation. But is this game influenced by WoW?
If you check out a few game "cave" and "dungeon", greenish light will always be the substitute for torches, If you really want a logical explanation, google it. I am not an expert, so if I'm to give the stupidest and least logical explanation, then its just the way games are designed.
They already said they hand made that dungeon to specifically show off there stuff. What they were showing off was basically.
1. Weapon glow affect
2. Special enemy skills (AKA skeleton glowing shields) that were able to block Whirlwind from a high level barbarian.
3. New runes.
4. Purple texted item drops, along with uniques.
5. Possibly one hit boss kills, they said that was purely for "show" and that it might not even go into the final product.
6. New abilities and a new class, and the old school barb with new things.
7. Destructable environments.
8. Health globes.
Thats basically all that video was really for. I might have missed something else in there, but basically thats what it was all about. The only problem is how much lightning and green/blue tint that they used. With some really low-poly objects (aka statue on staircase). That thing was way low-poly compared to some of the other objects.
Im guessing whatever they show us next will be a lot darker. If it isnt I will just quit diablo 3 now and say fuckit.

The problem is We`ll probably never see anything like Act 3 Mephisto's prison,
The game is just to joyful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A little Blood never heart anybody !!!!!!!!!!!!
I`m disapointed.

What the hell are you talking about? This game is twice as gory as Diablo II, you saw a few places outside and you think it's joyful?
Quote from "Kenzai" »
Actually the outdoors place wasnt corrupt at all, just a sunny, colorful, happy place and the monsters on it. Thats not how you create contrast.
So? Neither were MANY acts in Diablo II they were sunny, colorful and defiantly not corrupt what's your point? Oh I see, arguing useless semantics, carry on then because you'll eventually get somewhere with Blizzard and they'll listen to all of your great ideas - oh wait...
Actually Act 1 didn't feel corrupted at all to me till a little past the Barracks, either way it wasn't lacking vibrant colors. Now you're just looking for a useless argument - Blizzard already said "Too bad, live with it".
When I played act-1 I felt dark, dense forest for some reason. Even though there was almost like no trees around. Thats the feel i got. act-2 was a desert. It did not feel colorful, it felt like a desert, the way one should. Without barney colors and rainbow fairies. Color is good. But when you go overboard from fantasy into the land of Hello Kitty island adventure, barney, and the colorful game that WoW is, its kind of fucked up. This is supposed to be a M rated adult game, at least that's what I thought Diablo 3 would be.

Oh dear god, I can't believe people are still whining and crying about the art direction, saying "It's too cartoony", or "It's too colourful", or even calling it "Fairy-esque". It's amazing how everyone is quick to point out these things they've seen from the current gameplay video, but when many people post the truth about the video, they are ignored just to further the whiners' own arguement.
Yes, the Leoric Highlands started off peaceful and happy. It's been 20 years since the destruction of the Worldstone, and yet Hell has not invaded. Only those who knew of, and survived, the battle with the three Prime Evils sensed that was amiss, but the rest of Sanctuary began to flourish again (as seen in the Gameplay Video)... but we know something isn't right about it because of the Meteor hitting Tristram Cathedral, and because there are now hoards of demonds in the once beautiful Leoric Highlands.
Even as the Gameplay trailer progressed, you see the transition from "Bright and Sunny" to "Dark and Grim"
Don't ignore the truth to further your own agenda. This is their goal, this is their transitionary tool, and this is their method. It's staying true to the lore, the gameplay, and the franchise.

I feel that the people that are making these threads crap are not the people that WANT a change but the people that want it to stay. Really. If your going to even try to counter my great opinion then why dont you counter it with an equally good opinion on why it should stay the way it is? Oh wait, I forgot... YOU CANT lol.
