Okay, so D2 seemed much more simple to me. Im now lvl70 and paragon 40 something. Playing witch doctor. Not seasonal.
I'm trying to figure out what my next steps would be, I guess to get geared up for torment. Where would my time best be spent? Bounties, rifts, certain bosses?
And when I do feel strong enough for torment, do I continue in those places as I get more gear and increase torment levels?
I kind of miss just doing baal runs and cow levels XD
For pre-torment, you may want to consider crafting some legs, purely to fill any open slots (i.e. anywhere you have a rare equipped). Once you get that sorted, you should be able to handle rifts reasonably well, which should give you some fast-paced gear progression (high leg drop rate). You will want to push into torment reasonably quickly, as there are quite a few torment-only legendaries, some of which may be required for your desired build(s).
I can't really provide any info on early game WD builds, but the WD forums (as opposed to general discussion) more than likely have an abundance of recommendations.
T6 is if you got a damaging and defensive set bonus going on.
T7 is if you got a full 6 piece going on
T8 is full 6 piece+1 supporting legendary
T9 is full 6 piece+legendary/set weapons (With the 60%+ skill damage boosts)
T10 is full 6 piece, legendary/set weapons, supporting legendaries.
T2 can pretty much be done right off the bat as long as you go with the most efficient skill set up, so there really isn't any "gearing up to Torment". Quick stats, you need ~1.5 mil toughness or so to not die in T2, and only ~300k damage on the sheet to down stuff.
You can start up a seasonal character to get free 6 piece bonus, and be able to instantly do T7 (Get to lvl 70, kill a certain boss on T2, solo GR 20).
Some more notes - A Crusader is an exception to the Torment listing - A thorns build can pretty much go strait to T5, without a single legendary (Flawless Imperial Topaz, 5 or so pieces with Thorns on em, Thorns damage is super strong). Its incredibly simple to gear (The supporting pieces for it are fairly common, and most of them increase your toughness allowing you to easily do higher lvls), and it boasts the highest possible toughness out of ALL the sets (100% block chance, 55% damage reduction from Justice Latern, 50% from Aquilla Cuirass, 30% from BLood Brother, 50% from 4 set bonus, you don't gear for Crit/RCR so you can get more defensive stats, Vitality has strong offensive value above a few other skills, you use Iron Skin/Akarat's Champion/Consecration for your skills, you can get 100% uptime on those 3 skills, ect. Its insane value man).
Let me see..
As a general strat, do bounties until you have ~10 of each act mats (for starter cube), run Rifts until you get greater Keys, run Greater Rifts until you get your needed gems. Once you have those 3 things done, you just alternate between Bounties(When you run out of mats), Rifts (When you run out of Keys), and Greater Rifts. Note that for best efficiency, try to do as high Rifts as you can before a Greater Rift for best rewards (Quick rule of thumb, if you can do a Rift in 6 minutes, the equivalent Greater Rift lvl is ~3-5 lvls higher, due to mob health/damage being DRASTICALLY lower then in the Rift. T10 Rifts are, in-game, equivalent to GR 45, but you can do pretty close to GR 50 if you can down a T10 rift within 6 minutes)

As you just started playing you could consider to start a fresh seasonal character. You will get a free set which most likely will help you get your gear. You just need to reach lvl 70, kill Zoltun Kulle on T2 and complete greater rift 20 within 15 minute timeframe.
If you somehow don't want this boost here is how I do it:
1. Craft level 70 yellow gear with appropriate stats.
2. Farm rifts on whatever difficulty I am able to do within 5 minutes. (most likely something between hard and torment 1)
3. Invest Bloodshards for parts of the gear that are not legendary yet. (the boost from yellow to legendary can be pretty good and this speeds up the farming proccess - investing in rings, amulets and weapons is not a good idea, they are just wayyyy to expensive)
4. Gamble weapons, rings and set items at Kanai's Cube. (Hope of Cain is the recipe you're looking for)
5. Go for greater rifts as soon as I have a key for it to get the legendary gems I need.
6. As soon as I have all items legendary I start investing Bloodshards for set Items.
It's also really helpful to have a look for a build that you want to play to know which legendaries you can salvage and which you must keep to cube or wear.

Id love to look into a seasonal character, but with my job and my husband constantly playing Division, I get maaaaybe 5 hours of gametime per week. But I love the step by step instructions lol makes it easy for me!

How can he do bounties on T6-7 when he is in need for help getting into Torment in the first place?
I would do rifts in the difficulty where its done in 5 min max, then gamble for missing set pieces or where you have yellows equipped. In rifts its reasonably fast to upgrade from yellows and then up the difficulty when you feel like its too easy and stuff gets 1-shot.
Acid Cloud - Acid Rain combined with zombie dogs/garg and Spiders as a generator is what i use on low for pre-torment farming, equipe a solid 2h to get the acid cloud to hit hard, 1h with mojo to get faster attacks for the dogs, use what drops and tinker alot.
Once on torment do some bounties to get mats to cube stuff, Ring of Royal Grandeur drops from act1 caches, cube this to make it easier to complete sets. Always watch on the map what is the bonus act currently and finish that before doing the next act (the bonus act gives an extra cache with mats and rotates when one is finished)

I think you are focusing on wrong gear if u aren't able to do atleast T1. I was able to play t1 just after few yellow crafts after i hit 70. I'm guessing u might be using gear with wrong affixes. You should focus mainly on your damage, u will survive just fine on t1 if u kill stuff fast enough.
There are few simple rules for gearing:
- rings, amulets, gloves are you strongest offensive slots. Those can roll with crit chance, attack speed and crit damage increase, so you should check what you got and focus on those affixes(prolly crit chance and crit damage for most classes) for those slots.
- weapon - should have socket, and you should put green gem in it (gives more crit damage)
- head and bracers can also roll with crit chance so its nice to have this affix there
- for the rest of the gear you should focus on defensive affixes (for start)
If you follow this rules you should be able to play t1 without problems. Playing difficulties under t1 is not recommended cos you wont't find any set items there (they drop only on torment).

i'll give you the best and maybe even simplest advice, get nagelring and don't let it go for a while. you can pretty much clear T2 with it, that is how i did it. cleared entire campaign and cruised through hard and master difficulties and went up to T2 if i remember correctly.
