I cannot help but to think that the title is true. I mean i used to be as excited as the next person...I think that its going to be a pretty long wait late 09 at best, and yet where all talking about it like it's coming out at Christmas. To be this hyped up before the release date is even close to being finalized is just a tease to us all to be honest. I think a more constant stream of information on the game would help past the time.
D2 was a massive hit so the hype is perfectly justified. It's the "king" of it's genre.
Blizzard will make sure that the game remains hyped and in fact that the hype intensifies as we approach the shipping date.
Precious little has been released so far.
No real data on gear.
No real data on types of loot.
No real data on the Horadric cube (if any...)
No real data on the storyline.
The mystery of Leah.
Other NPCs?
The number of Acts?
Plus a never ending trickle of screen caps / wallpapers.
Perhaps a beta lottery. Perhaps competitions for a fan to name a monster. Fan art competitions.
Blizzard can just keep that promotion juggernaut rolling until it's good and ready to ship.
Don't worry.

So we've got over the problem of colour in D3. Great. Now let's argue about everything else not yet set in stone and help make this game simply great! Game on.
Early 09, call me crazy, thats just what I think. I've been correct in the past. (I bet my gramgram's dead twat on Diablo 3 being at WWI). "Hipe" is spelled with Y. And of course its dying, it happens with all announced games and then when there is more substantial news it hypes up again.
Diablo 3 to me, was inevitable. That being said, I do sometimes fear the hype it has and will continue to gather. We need only look at Hellgate: London to see how badly over hyping can, and often will, kill a game. I might have found that game more appealing, if it wasn't for the countless threads on forums that compared it to Diablo 2, and the claims it was Diablo 3 or the next Diablo.
I do not recall WOW garnering quite the same level of hype as Diablo 3 has, then again, that was a long time ago, and few people were active forum participants, so naturally the hype was less.
I'd rather see things not get over hyped at all, and would rather see less speculation of things. Or maybe just less duplicate threads.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.

Hype isn't what killed Hellgate IMO.
If the game is bad then it is bad, hellgate killed itself cuz it sucked not because of the overhype.
And if anything all this talk about the graphics may make D3 a "sure fail" that turns out to be amazing.

I still don't understand where the need for having a physic engine comes into question. It's not like having a set physics engine automatically makes a good game.
I don't care about the wait. I want the game yesterday, so any length of time is going to be long. They'll leave us their breadcrumbs along the way and we can devour another taste of what's to come and we'll be all psyched out again. That will keep most fans going until it's actually released. Creativity tends to be sporadic, so I would expect that same inconsistency in any new information that Blizzard releases. I'll wait however long it takes until they are sure that Diablo III is ready to market. I want a good game, not a rushed release.
Okay I honestly don't know for sure if this is right, but on Gamesradar.com/pc PC Gamer (Who will have Diablo 3 on the cover of their October issue I think) posted a preview of the Q&A with a developer. One key question I saw was as follows
PCG: The cynics have already said they look forward to playing Diablo III when it ships in 2011. Do you feel any pressure to prove them wrong?
You saw it, 2011 boys and girls. Take it for whatever you see it as. The rest of the article is interesting as well, give it a read.
EDIT: Also to sort of backup this "confirmed" date on the last issue of the PCG mag in the next month box they said "You knew it was coming, you just didn't know when, well, we know and we'll tell you, stick around."
It WASN'T that verbatum (sp?) but it was relatively close to something like that. So Diablo 3 in 2011 :(.
WHat i took that as is that people are making fun of blizzard and saying things like "oh cool il play it in 2011" just to make a joke about how long they take. I could be wrong about this. I personally think blizzard will be stupid to release it in 2011. I can see massive hatemail coming in to them because of this lol.
I agree about the hype dying down now.
for me the hype has been replaced by irritation at the lack of information that blizzard is releasing for the game.
I mean, our last update included an art work that was also turned into a wallpaper. and that picture of Leah btw was not new at all, I already had it from a screenshot I took from the cinematic trailer. seriously, it was at 1:49 of the cinematic.
and it wasn't something just similar, it was identical.

exactly the only constant form of information we are getting is art. If it was game play screen shots it wouldn't be as bad... don't get me wrong a little lore doesn't hurt anyone. I would be very surprised by mid next week if we don't get some new character information. If we don't the hype is really going to go down.

And the Hype slowly dies....

We were outside in D2 all the time.. Most of A1, Alot of A2, Most of A3, Alot if not most of A5.
Well not for me yet....evertime I watch that trailer I get more and more excited in anticipation of slaying up some invading demons.
Also, being motivated to go back and complete some goals in D2 that I never did finish, is keeping me occupied and still sitting in anticipation.
