Purple does not = girly just so everyone is clear. It's called royal purple for a reason...
Only in the last 100 years has it been associated almost solely with women...
The point is, its one more gay thing coming out of WoW. It just adds to the mass of gayness being brought into the diablo franchise from WoW when all the games have always been pretty much there own style . I meen that inventory is the same thing from WoW... and now Purple items :O? I wonder if blizz has gone mad or if the art team are trying to pull the most elaborate video game hoax in the history of gaming. This entire thread just adds to the pile of other things coming right out of WoW when there doesn't have to be any WoW involved in the first place. Its like a big joke to them or something ???

How is purple not logical... it's like the one colour on the basic colour wheel not used... It's is exactly logical
The three primaries
- Blue - Magical
- Yellow - Rare
- Red - Broken
The three secondaries (mixes of two promaries)
- Orange - Crafted
- Green - Set
- Purple....
"Special" colours
- White - normal item no modifications from basic stat (damage or armour), unless "superior" or "cracked"
- Grey - Socketed or Etheral
- Gold - Unique... the sugar daddy of items.
You people are unbelievable, driven so insanely biased in your anti WoW theme crusade that anything that wow ever did Diablo can't do... or else "it's ruining the fabric of the game"
I know, lets get rid of experience, and levels, and resistances, spells, mana, and the whole RPG element, cause it's too "WoW"ish...
And whoever the hell complained about Purple being a bad choice cause it was "gay"... grow up ffs.
If you need some reason to justify it in a "logical" sense... it's more used in medieval times by royal and wealthy upper class people than anyone ever used yellow, or green... It shows a high status, and would be a LOGICAL colour for a high ranking item in the form of power/quality.

What the hell is WoW, unseriously?
Face it, there's at best a year left before we can play D3, we're all going to become insane at one point. Some sooner than others apparently.
Quote from "Daemaro" »
The fact that purple has always been used as a royal color, and has recently become "girly" in the last 50-100 years.
I don't care about what other people say except if it's important and right now just made me yawn...
In my book pink is girly, purple is awesome (especially dark purple).
Envy, Sensuality, bisexuality, spirituality, creativity, wealth, royalty, nobility, ceremony, mystery, wisdom, enlightenment, arrogance, flamboyance, gaudiness, mourning, profanity, exaggeration, confusion, pride, Scorpio (violet, star sign), May, November, riches, romanticism (light purple), delicacy (light purple), penance.
Purple is the color of mourning for widows in Thailand, favorite color of Egypt's Cleopatra, and the purple heart - given to soldiers who have been wounded during warfare.
Well of course anything royalty would wear would be expensive and hard to obtain.
So your telling me my "royal?" barbarian?" would wear or would want to wear a purple cloak? Maybe he should get matching pink pants to go with it. I guess the witch doctor could add it to his lunatic style of dress though.
Lets stay on track here, we're not talking about THE ACTUAL ITEMS. We're talking about the text that the item is in. I see no reason for Purple text other than the fact that the art direction for Diablo 3 is from WoW. Theres no reason for purple text other than it replaceing uniques as the most powerful item or replaceing Rare items which were yellow since none dropped in the gameplay video yet unique/purple did. Maybe it was a test to get a reaction. My reaction is this, keep diablo... diablo. Keep WoW in WoW.

For now it seems they wanted to get rid of yellow for rare, so they added purple. Presumably to get rid of the yellow/gold confusion (granted it wasn't always there).
What other color would they have done? Let's assume they're not going with silver because it'd be a pain to texture it a way it's not confused with gray/white items and they don't want confusion again.

What colors are really left?
Why change yellow in the first place. I never had a problem with the yellow//gold look. Since all gear drops are now individualized you wont be looking for gold to grab instead of yellow. In all honestly took me a second or two to tell if it was yellow or gold when it dropped, but really... Theres no need to throw in purple.
unique - gold
rare - yellow
It makes sense. Yellow is a lesser color. A lesser item. It just makes sense. Throwing purple in there doesnt lol.

I agree that with the new loot system you don't really need to grab loot as hastily so maybe purple is a new item all together.

Maybe just different look.. both purple items that dropped were weapons, two hand axe and short staff. Maybe they are weapon related only and that unique is armor related only. Need to admit it is odd that no yellow drop but purple/unique did. Maybe easier to tell if armor or weapon drops for you. duno seems wierd.

MAYBE, this is a stretch, MAYBE purple = class specific?
Or maybe what you said also.

Since Diablo 1 when Diablo couldn't possess King Leoric so he settled for Prince Albrecht...
im talking color-wise ... Specifically related to "purple" as many people keep saying its Royal.
Well of course anything royalty would wear would be expensive and hard to obtain.

today's purple usually has a touch of pink in it.

Common why being so serious about this?
