UPDATE: if you take a look on his hands , it looked like it was wraped like a mummy and his face is totally a golden mask and it looks like his using a cold spell on his right hand. The summoner uses cold and fire.
UPDATE AGAIN: omg, someone said it somewhere , but if you actually look on his left hand , he looks like hes holding a staff but the artist didnt finish the drawing.
This jealousy of Man led to harsh, atrocious acts of violence by the demons against the mortal realm. Some men learned of this deep hatred and used it against the denizens of the Underworld. One such mortal, Horazon the Summoner, delighted in summoning demons and then breaking them to his will. Horazon, along with his brother Bartuc, were members of the Eastern mage clan known as the Vizjerei. This mystic clan studied the ways of demons and had catalogued their lore for generations. Empowered by this knowledge, Horazon was able to take the work of the Vizjerei and pervert it for his demented purposes. The denizens of Hell sought revenge against this bold mortal, but Horazon managed to keep himself well protected within his arcane sanctuary.
Wow, good spotting! Lore-wise, it seems kind of funny to have the Summoner back, so maybe its a bit of a different reincarnation of him? Or maybe someone entirely new, but the artists were just inspired by the Summoner.
Either way, the fact that his hat is the same and that he has ice in his hand makes it fairly significant (the Summoner only used ice spells).
And it looks like he's meant to be holding a staff, but the artist just hasn't finished drawing it in.
The Summoner uses the following Skills: Glacial Spike, Frost Nova, Fire Ball, Fire Wall, Weaken.
Eh, he will always be associated with ice in my mind.
It has to be the summoner , the guy in the picture was not shown in the gameplay and the guy who said hes helmet-mask and robe are different , well .... didn't we kill him? and now hes back? with a new style!
and thanks atrumentis , you can fix my post anytime lol.
Sorry didn't catch your edit while I was reading the post.
suppose a mask is just as good an answer as statue, but either way I think it does represent the summoner one way or another.

According to what I understood from Legacy Of Blood.
Horazon lives on through the Arcane Sanctuary, his spirit is part of it. He took pity on the summoner when he stumbled upon it, being that he was seemingly insane.
Horazon allowed him to stay within the Sanctuary, locked away from the evils that had clearly driven him mad. Overtime the man actually began to think he WAS Horazon, and at the end of the book, the real Horazon used the Summoner as a vesel to which to exit the Sanctuary, in order to stop his brothers armor from taking hold over Norrec. In order to keep the armor at bay, Horazon put the suit of armor on, and returned to the Sanctuary, warning the protagonists to never seek the Sanctuary again, as they will surely perish..
I believe in putting the armor on, Horazon & Bartuc ceased to exist in anyway, and all that was left was a maddened old shell of a man, with the knew knowledge of how to summon an control demons much like Bartuc & Horazon had done.
In short, I really don't think this artwork is the summoner, especially not Horazon. Horazon simply used the Summoner as a vesel to leave the Sanctuary, the Summoner is not Horazon, although he would obviously liked to think he was.

(first one in the 3rd row in art section)
It has to be him. HAS TOO.

Could this be his brother?
same hat
I think this guy in the artwork is either a new monster or the new pure caster class.
Btw your link doesn't directly lead to the correct artwork try this one:
http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/_images/artwork/ss46-hires.jpg
They wouldnt show a new class in the art section before they announce it.
So it just might be a random mage npc or a caster player class.
The Summoner's hat is really, really large, with very long horns on the sides.
Plus that guy doesnt wear the same robe, the colors are different, he's wearing a golden mask, ...
If this is the summoner then Bashiok's avatar is Diablo (he's red! there's horns!).
Either way, the fact that his hat is the same and that he has ice in his hand makes it fairly significant (the Summoner only used ice spells).
And it looks like he's meant to be holding a staff, but the artist just hasn't finished drawing it in.
But why is his face yellow/gold?
(I fixed up your first post for you too, btw)
The Summoner could also use Fire Wall

That's what struck me bout him too. He is totally one color except for the spell. Which to me screams statue.
well, Like I said. His face is a mask. and its made out of gold..or a goldish material... lol
