OR...you could not name your topic something that you don't mean? just a thought though ;). I love crafting and i hope they do not scrap it....they should find many more ways to make it very complex and potentially amazing...but also quite a gamble. Maybe some would be things you need to find to craft a relatively unique item, and other recipes are more like randomish gambles.
Yes, I already said that there was actually no reason to scrap uniques because there was no interference with this crafting system. Maybe next time you guys should read through the whole thread to avoid posting unnecessary comments.
Maybe next time you shlould post a non misleading title and a short summary about what you're wanting instead of a wall of text no one really wants to read.
Not my fault the title says "SCRAP UNIQUES"

I changed my mind later in the thread, that's why I advised you to read through it instead of just the title before making comments. You should concern yourself more in adding constructive criticism rather than adding to your post count.

Yes because you can tell from my ONE post in this thread that I'm concerned with my post count...
Maybe I'm missing it but I still don't see where you changed your mind and said keep uniques.
I want uniques in the game, they're interesting, have story behind them, and make me feel like I accomplished something even when I find a crappy one.
Besides that I don't feel the need to wade through your wall of text to point out what's wrong.
Crafting is a good idea, it's not a new idea, it was some what functional in D2 and I have faith it will be more so in D3.
in my memory Diablo and Diablo II are games i used to play (especially Diablo II) to hunt down bosses on my own for loots (that i'd usually give to people but it didnt matter much). Sets and Uniques were very important to me since i never bothered farming runes or duping them (finding the first Ber rune of Europe on v1.10 was my luckiest shot and the highest rune i've ever found - sold for 3 full TR sets at that time...).
Anyway, i dont want to see Diablo turning into a game in which crafting is important. As much as i like WoW, LotRO, AoC and many single-player games (Gothic, yay) that use a crafting system, I want to hunt down demons (or undead) for my items.
As previously said, I too liked how each unique (and most of the sets in Diablo II) had a background story for themselves. Azurewrath, Arcane's Valor, Tal Rashas set and more. Every one of those items had an interesting story and thats nothing a crafter item will have, no matter what stats are on it (werent the "ITH" swords popular back when duping was "high" on the realms? - i still hated them).
I do like the idea of haveing rares and crafting more powerful. this way you can have items that no one else has with the much random stats. so you can have an item you can call your own. Unless they dont fix duping problems.
If anyone can remember, D1 uniques were really cool.
remember this?
Griswold's Edge

Yeah of course you do! The first time you got this baby, you were smiling like Christmas arrived early on your doorstep.^_^
With regards to D2, Uniques were kind of "watered down" in contrast to Runewords (1.10).
Veil of Steel Defense: 396 (Base Defense: 114-159)
Required Level: 73
Required Strength: 192
Durability: 60 +60% Enhanced Defense +140 To Defense All Resistances +50 +15 To Strength +15 To Vitality -4 To Light Radius
VS
Delirium 3 Socket Helms Lem + Ist + Io
1% Chance To Cast Level 50 Delirium* (morph) When Struck
6% Chance To Cast Level 14 Mind Blast When Struck
14% Chance To Cast Level 13 Terror When Struck

+2 To All Skills
+261 Defense
+10 To Vitality
50% Extra Gold From Monsters
25% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items

My point is that Uniques should be MORE unique than the D2 ones. D1 uniques were distinguishly unique due to some modifiers not usually found in tandem with other mods.
D3 would be really cool if uniques were distinguishable from other weapons.
like for example:
- Mods that can't be found in other items other than that certain unique item
- A distinguishable sprite different from other weaps/armors, and maybe a different death animation for monsters killed with a unique weap
- Smaller droprate. Some must be farmed from a certain monster/boss (i.e. only the Butcher can drop Butcher's Cleaver at .001% droprate)
- Superior strength and longevity compared to rares, sets, and runewords (if there are runewords in d3) of the same item level
etc etc.
maybe this weapon or something like this for example:
Griswold's Edge DPS (25) To (75) (50 Avg) Required Level: 41
+150% Enhanced Damage
Fire Hit Damage 30-48
Chance to hit +50%
Fast Attack
Knocks Target Back
Fire AoE 2 yard radius
1% Chance to cast Griswold's Fury
(Griswold's Fury engulfs the wielder in a fiery aura adding 30-48 Holy damage and 150% Defense for 10 seconds)'
Sprite looks different from other weapons, Fire explosion when striking.
You get the idea.
I agree. Overall, though, I'd like to see weaker items, instead of trying to buff everything into oblivion. Everything on an item should count, and a +5 frost damage should matter, somehow, and not just be "Meh, 5 extra damage? Weak."
You hit me on the spot dude.
Thats exactly what i missed in D1. +2-12 Fire damage was a "wow" factor already those days.
But now, even magical items in the D3 preview looked like uniques to me
If my x unique item's sprite looked like the double axe of frost: me =
Screw that, they should have more mods for unique items, The 1s in D2 werent enough. They have to bring runewords back, not the same ones but runewords as a whole.
crafting should be buffed predestined results might be better than random ones though but the formulas should be really hard. i.e. gems + runes + unique item = crafted item + predestined stats accdg to the materials.. just a thought though.

Actually, in a game of chance, I'd say that's even worse, since it gives certain people, based entirely on (great) luck, MUCH overpowered items.
It's actually better when it's widely available, like in D2, because then at least EVERYONE can be completely overpowered, even if it's not fair to the uniques.
It doesn't matter in bnet coz you get what you want via trade anyway.. My point in this thread though is that uniques should have their unique "feel", and that you're inclined to use it for either its cosmetic and/or practical edge vs. other items (i.e. same item level rares/runewords).
Runewords should be equal more or less to uniques but i hope the flashy, unnatural mods are on the unique items side.
The problem was that rune words, especially the 1.11 ones, made all previous uniques, crafted and even runewords no longer worth the trouble of finding/making them.
Uniques were, at one point, really powerful and useful. Enigma basically killed that, as did BOTD.
I love uniques, but it needs to be more like Diablo 1. were they were truly powerful and you wanted to use them. You shouldn't be able to buy a magic item that is better than a Unique. And Rune Words really should be better than Uniques either. Sets are ok, as they do not get super powerful until you piece together part of, if not the whole set.
Crafted could be better than uniques in some cases, as it requires some work. But no more piss easy to put together rune words that make all previous items void.
dude i am sooo with you these new runewords totally raped any unique ever spawned and some of the bugged items in 1.09 the only truly BEAT item that was left that i think was and still is the best armor you could of gotten was 1.08 arkains valor the vita + was GODLY at like 80+ you would get like 250+ vita... i mean damn... and it was legit...

Thx admin for merging the thread.
That would be fucking cool. Different death animations would be very cool too but probably hard to implement.
I disagree though that they should be found only on specific monsters, it would be way to tedious to get them.
