Come on ppl, think of it as Call Of Duty 4. They have mini achievments. Get 150 headshots with the M4. In diablo 3 its gunna be like kill 3000 Cultists.
Hopefully it will be hidden achievements not revealing how many or which excist until you achieve one. Much like the secret of horadric recipees for a long time, this can really result into a big hype and drive. 5000 zombie kills? Killing diablo under 3 minutes after logging in? Having looted a total of 100 billion gold pieces in your entire account's lifespan? Interesting options are possible.
This is evil. A fantaistic idea, but how now am I going to stop myself from renewing my WoW subscription just to get more achievements?

Well, by the time I actually got to the point where I would be bothering with unlocking these things, all of them would be public on the net anyway. So it wouldn't really matter if they were hidden or not in the long run for me.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.

I'm sure Blizzard will implement some near-impossible achievements, like kill the last boss on Hell difficulty without getting hit or something

i want to see achievements that say something about my character.
example:
highest def in the game.
highest attack rating in the game.
most life in the game.
and so on.
i'd rather not have that many time based achievements like kill 5000 fallen. those are pointless and anyone can achieve them. so why call that achievement?
achievement should have a value. just like seeing a title on a character that solved nightmare and hell difficulty. it should denote an achievement.
I love the idea of an achievement system in D3! I agree with radiant_knight on the idea that the achievement system should say something about the particular character. That someone killed Diablo in less than three minutes after log-on only tells me that the person either has friends that drop loot on the character; has a higher level character that can farm higher level items, or has otherwise surpassed Diablo's capabilities before ever going to battle with him. Besides that, what fun is it, or what big deal is it, to have Diablo dead three minutes after log-on? It doesn't really say anything at all about the individual character.
I also like the idea that they are looking toward a future account-based system that will encompass all Blizzard games. That opens some great possibilities, including a system where you could have an "all-access" account for one reasonable fee.
I still think there should be a premium D3 account where there is a small fee for the servers, and where premium accounts have amenities that free accounts won't recieve. To wit: no deletion of law abiding characters because of time spans between playing a particular character; no time restrictions regarding logging onto an account in order to keep it active; random additions of content and other important upgrades, services, and amenities that Blizzard's free servers will not be entitled to. There have been more favorable opinions for paid servers than I would have guessed among the fans here.
Its a dumb idea. REALLLYYYY DUMB. Why would I want people to know about my experience on other games than the one I currently play. I mean. In WHAT REAL occasion will people want to know which level I reached in WoW or how much win I got in ladders in SC2. The only reason I see that could probably be of some use is for Blizzard to select their beta testers. Like, okay guys, if you are good and lifeless in all of our games, you might have a chance to play the beta test. I think it is LAME. Since WoW is getting so stupid about all the competition since WoW is the worst game to support competition. Gear fight, soooo cooooolll... When I saw the achievement announcment in WOTLK, I was like. Okay this is lame, yet another reason Blizzard found out to keep their addicted junkies with them. Now I see they want to spread this addiction sickness over all their games. The worst move Blizzard could have done. Nybody here ever wanted to play a game for themselves? Now it's all about how you look to the eyes of other. That's aint a %$"/$ game anymore...
BTW, Im not a Blizzard hater. I love Blizzard work, I played every games, and I played WoW ALOT. But I think Blizz starts (since Burning Crusade) to do stuff a game company shouldnt deal with. All their new, drug dealers strategy to sale more WoW accounts and now this achievement crap. That's getting too far... And since it's just a video game, nobody seems to see this.
Well Bisso, I believe its referring to personal achievements, unless other players can see your achievements I think its mostly for your own sense of self accomplishment. I doubt Blizzard is thinking of people showing others their achievements to inflate their egos. I don't think they are for competition either, I believe its merely more goals to aim for which I think is a good idea. Most likely you wont even notice them until you get one or you are purposefully trying to get one, it will probably be like, "Hey, I just got the achievement of decapitating 1000 zombies, sweet." Not, "Hey look this guy has more achievements than me he's better than me at the game."
LOL cool. So not only are they making it more like WoW visually. But they are making it more like a console too!! GJ BLIZZ! rofl? Red health globe anyone? Bud light anyone? Sam adams? No? oh.. Ok then.

If you get personally attacked by letters through the internet its a good thing to always have a box of tissues and a band-aid around.
Highly unlikely - because all achievements are going to be linked together - so probably the best you'll get is how much gametime spent on one or the other game - which games purchased, etc.
I doubt any achievement will affect gameplay in any way or give you any advantage other than saying - look I am an idiot who owns every single blizzard game and I play them for 20 hours a day

If it's gonna be like you say, it will probably be alright. But refering to Blizzard Announcement on WOTLK site, this is something other players will be able to see. A bit like PVP ranking, etc..

are you worried that people will LOL at you?
hopefully they will be like TF2 achievements and you can get extra stuff that bisso can't get because he has self esteem-issues
i woldnt mind that at all....

It's time to welcome the other 80% of the color wheel to a Diablo game.
As long as the achievements are varied and unique, it's all good.
I'm sure this'll add more playability and gives fans a lot more to do online.
all this censorship is killing me inside :-(
