Buying items with real-world money is cheating because though you're bypassing an aspect of Diablo's gameplay, you're still reaping the rewards and benefits from it; you also do not have to worry about the negatives: e.g., dying from monsters while MFing. This kind of conduct flies in the face of how Blizzard (the designers) want you to play their game. Diablo, like everything else, allows for decision making as well as consequences for those decisions, but choosing to spend real money on virtual items is not a valid in-game decision followed by fair in-game consequences for your character, which under normal circumstances would be negative, positive, or both; it's instead a decision that's strictly win-win for the player's character, with out-of-game consequences (a consequence larger than sleep deprivation). In other words, you're benefiting your character while operating outside of the game itself, and in turn completely avoiding in-game repercussions of any kind.
Was this thread started for the soul purpose of causing an argument?
There was a thread that ended in something similar and everyone was "basically" flaming each other on who was right and who was wrong.
I'd hate to see that happen here as well.

Still must meet level/strength/dexterity requirements?

Watching 240 guys talk trash about cavaliers is like two retards having a slapfight over a sippy cup.
Altho. I don't buy items and shit off of ebay and "Lewt.com" or "D2Legit.com" or any of the other site people spam about in D2 games... but I'd much rather buy directly from Blizzard than get duped by someone I don't know.

You arent a REAL player unless you earn your stuff. If your self esteem is so low that you have to spend money
to cheat
in a GAME
well thats just pathetic.
No duping -> less selling
No uniq top items -> less seliing
No mf running -> less selling
giving everyone chance to get decent gear -> less selling
so thers a few. duping the worst of them. I remember before lod no one had ever heard about someone buying items. Then came duping and the best rares were being sold in ebay.
About running. No one will sell items for money if you don't have 5 mules full of some uniques. If you have a couple of mules that have different kind of rares and some uniques you would rather use them for trading yourself some new items. Also any "china farmer" could easily create a MF char to run 1 boss all the time.. and get some items to sell because it is so easy. Making bosses unfarmable and harder to approach will make item selling harder.
Unique top items. When you have them all you can do is run some more items and then sell them. If rares are top you can hardly get the best one and will continue to trade your muled items for upgrade to your exsisting gear.
And the last point. I remember in pre-lod when you could start from scratch and find some really nice rares on the way in normal and nightmare. Then you could also gamble for tarnhelm for example or twichtroe that you could easily trade for something good for your character. Imbues worked fine my first lance barb first imbue was 330 lance which was insane, no need to buy lance from ebay when you actually had a good chance to get a good item by yourself. Now in LOD you only get some decent items in late nightmare if you are lucky. Now if you go to hell with your bad gear you get frustrated because you get your ass kicked and you are probaly more likely to find yourself from some itemshop page.
If some people wish to throw away their money for the sake of obtaining digital items, then by all means, let them.
There was an article about wow player that bought 1million wow gold for $40000 thats kinda sick when you think that there is no use for 1 million gold in wow unless u wanna fukk up the auction house .P
He also proudly told about mailing 15000 gold to his girlfirend as a birthday gift.. dunno I'd much rather take a trip to hawaii or somewhere
No matter what they do I think some kind of selling will be in any these types of games.
people really take these games way to seriously, i mean 40000 dollars in real money, for a million gold in fake money? Ahhh humanity is making a comeback!
Now nomatter what blizzard does there are always going to be people who are going to find a way toh ack a game, and you can bet that there are going to be bots spamming and trying to sell items to you, it's the side effect of open play.
Each software could be hacked , there is not a real secured software and this is proved.
It's better to be used system that hacking and shielding it is just a meanless , and pointless .
What?
It works for WoW. People get banned for selling gold, or using hacks, or eBaying their accounts.
The thing you have to realize though is that if someone has enough money to throw $40k on some wow gold; then its pocket change to them.
That's unfortunately, frighteningly and universally untrue. There are druggies who would sell their houses in a second for crack money (presuming they even had one). 40k may had been that guy's entire income for all we know. There are some unsound people in the world.
I sold quite a bit of gear for real money on ebay. I find it funny that some of you consider this cheating (have you all forgotten the item level requirements patch that neutralized the problem?)
Interesting thing is, though I made $ playing D2, I also used most of that $ to buy other items. In a sense, I was deeply enjoying the merchant/trading aspect of the game. I was just using a different venue and real currency. The reason is that I found in-game trading to be totally lame in comparison to the power trading that ebay offered.
I stopped playing D2 while it was still popular, but if I remember correctly, didn't Blizzard start cracking down on the ebay sales? -- Hmm, maybe I'm getting confused with WoW.
In any case, does anyone have a guess as to whether Blizzard will ignore ebay sales with D3?
lol good post...
what do u suppose we do about this little issue?

This is the program that runs in the background when playing WoW, scanning your systems processes for hacks and the likes.
I'm being serious. Anything to get rid of the cheaters.

I doubt they crack down on ebay sales though, I don't think they've even done that with WoW really.
