Ok, this is related to Diablo 3 because I've heard many people talk about fans complaining about SC2 graphics and they've changed it.
Every time theres an argument going on about the artistic direction of Diablo 3, some random guy always comes out and says:
"Don't worry, Blizzard will change the graphics, just look at the before and after screenshots of SC2. The fans complained and they made it a lot better."
I believe you, but can someone post links to these screen-shots? I've searched and could not find.
They didn't really change the overall design, at least not imho. They made very subtle changes that ended up making a pretty big difference. One of the things is that they made the textures more sharper and defined, and then added texture. Making things look gritty and shit.
Now I am not sure whether that was the direction from the beginning and everyone thought that the earlier screenshots were final, or if the community did have an impact. I never saw a source were Blizzard said "Ok guys... we will change it for you." Basically they made the changes as development continued and makes me wonder if the starcraft fans had their ego stroked by thinking they had an impact.

The preview for SC2 looked like it could have been a finished game.
It was entirely obvious those were the textures they planned to use in the final game. People said no to that, and suddenly they changed.

Is there any blizzard comment about this? I haven't been able to find anything official about this.
The comparison shots show what are obviously less detailed textures with more saturated colors then what is present in SC2 now. The saturation part of this could be the result of a fan protest, however, more than likely, the detail work and overall lighting probably was not finished by Blizzard in those early shots. Anyway It would be nice to see if there was an official response about this somewhere.
and Sandman, are you seriously saying they made it look "gritty and shit", it looked like a childrens playpit before!
Thanks Corwyn, those were the screen-shots I was looking for. From looking at the before and after photos, looks to me like they've added more shadows, textures and details into the models and terrain and the overall edges appear to be sharper and cleaner.

A lot of change actually.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
You got a point, but changes are going to made to the game petitions or not, that's why its in development i guess to change things and develop things.
