Yeah, I bet it will turn into another PK/Anti-PK thread. As soon as the flames start burnin I WILL report it. Getting sick of the name calling and such with NO REAL intelligent defense or opposition.
It is really just beating a dead horse at this point. Same argument over and over. Fact is PK will not be implemented, and there is below 0% chance the devs will change. We just need to move on, the war is over, armistice has been reached.
With so much else revolving around this game, it is just pointless to continue haranguing over the same topic. Plus, we still know so little about the game. Hell, we still only know 2 classes.
We don't know anything about Auction house, MF, items, shared experience, how many in party/game, how many acts, different difficulty modes, respecs, levels, quests, areas, maps, creatures and bosses.
Let's just focus on that and move on. If PKing is all you live for, then there is still D2 and any number of FPS games
my point here, btw, is that obviously it was not a coop game. it was ultimately a game for you to gear your char up and be the best out of the community. the story was so short, but we all played for 5+ years... why?
Here's a few reason.
1. To play the seven different classes
2. To try the many different builds for each class
3. To meet even more cool people online
4. To see how quickly you could finish it in
5. To see how long you could finish it in
6. To relive the story one more time
There's half a dozen reasons in under a minute. Do not try to tell me that the only thing to Diablo is killing other players you are wrong. After all the game series is called DIABLO, not kill other people. I don't think I WOULD have played it this long if that was all there was to it.

There's nothing wrong with having a bit of animosity between players. It makes the game more competative and really gets people going. I don't know why Blizzard doesn't see this. Besides the so-called cooperation that Blizzard is trying to bring is artificial because they are forcing people into it. People will always be free to insult eachother, and do all sorts of assholish things. The only difference in D3 is that we won't be able to PK people for it.
There is only one way to bring more cooperative play to the game, and thats to introduce quests that require a lot of planning and teamwork to pull off.
To be honest, I don't know if I'm a minority or not, but I almost never played offline. This is not to say that I didn't play solo, but I figured if I was going to make a character, I might as well make one and play online, in a private game. So I would solo for a while, then go into public games, solo again, and so on. The reason I do this though was because I rarely played (or play) D2 without intending to do something with one of my few friends that still play.
I like the idea of a better cooperative system, both PvP and PvM. The current game finding system is such a pain to find a game based on what you want to do. The only thing we have really is the game name. There is a description option, but when looking for a game that list moves to fast you don't even really have a chance to look.

That's maybe how you 14 year olds see this game, but a lot of us old timers play for the cooperative nature. If we want to play against each other competitively, we go play a true competitive game. Artificial only in your eyes, but there are a lot more who applaud this. So it looks like D3 will NOT be you, so enjoy D2. Adios
Someone please explain to me why the PK crowd should not have their fun (killing people whether or not they want to fight) inhibited in any way at all, and anyone who thinks it should be is a whiner. Meanwhile my fun (questing and cooperating with other players) is fair game to be squelched, or I should have to jump through a plethora of hoops (make a passworded game, wait for the A hole to leave, create a PVP character)? How about one of you PK crowd answer that question? Explain it to me. I'm not saying PVP should be removed from the game just that I should be able at game creation to eliminate it.

I think an idea that should make both parties happy is a separate realm for strictly PvP play. Perhaps it could even have an exclusive map like an arena or coliseum.
The rest of us could SP and Co-op in safety and peace.

It's time to welcome the other 80% of the color wheel to a Diablo game.
Timmah obviously created this thread because he resented his thrashing in the locked thread. His arguments are obviously weak, they've been wrecked, for him to think Diablo 2 was not primarily a cooperative game is ridiculous, and that's really the end of it. Don't let yourself be baited into turning this into another thread like that.
I know...I may be making the mistake of trying to be civil, but it may pay off.
More on topic, I know I'm pimping my arena/coliseum idea a lot, but that might actually make PvP more appealing to some if it was more structured and monitored.

I don't like PVP in games like this. It seems so redundant. It wouldn't be as big of an issue of items and spec didn't play a larger role in the game than player skill, but that's sort of the point of rogue-like games.

Kind of hit the nail on the head there, PvP in D2 had much less to do with skill, and more so how much the other kiddies spent on Ebay for their gear opposite other players who play with what they found. I am sure someone will now make the baseless and unprovable claim how they could take on anyone with 'their' ubers skills blah blah.
Skill is taking a rifle in Call of Duty 4 and beating snipers at their own game. Skill is holding down an entire team with said rifle...alone. So enough of this pure and 110% BS that there is skill in D2.

Wow, for an old-timer you sure are out of the loop. If you actually think that there is no competative aspect in D2, you are part of a very small minority, and must not be very observant. Because if you have ever played D2 online, you would have realized how competative and crazy people would get over duels.
That'd be the easiest function to implement to solve the problem. A box to click if you want it PvP or not PvP.
Anyway, let's try not to let this turn into a flame fast again as with the last two threads.
if they give the PvP on/off option characters should have to chose this at character creation and have a completely separate realm for each. That's the only way it can work well. Have a PvE only realm and a PvP realm which is no-holds-bar D2 style for us hardcore pvp fans. No switching over between realms for individual characters.
...and the name calling starts again. SHEESH! Just because somebody has a difference of opinion, nobody should be called or call anyone "noob" or "idiot" or "carebear" or whatever. Pointing out somebody is wrong is one thing. Rubbing their face in it is quite another and inapropriate.

Well I think people will want a bit of both, but if that's what it'll take to keep people happy. Why not.
I suppose they make some adjustments to the game for singleplayer and multiplayer versions. So they would be slightly different in terms of difficulty?

There used to be more skilll required before lod and start of lod. But after a while and especially 1.10 with all the uber items its blah.
Friend who I think is a very good with sorc had this weird sorc build in 1.08. Hydra, nova, TS. he didn't have very good gear, peasant crown, wizardspike and such some basic uniques. He was pretty much pwning everyone at least in the public games.
Well i guess the quality of the games wasn't that great since I was able to beat some people with my converted pre-lod orb sorc who had nothing but rares on (alltho orb was killer back then and not many had it)
Well separate realms for PvP type experiences has worked for some online type games. I remember EQ1 was quite good on that. PK'ing was pretty rampant then too if you just happened to walk out of Freeport, but you had to be, if I remember right, about level 6 or more before you could be PK'ed at all. After that you were free game. I remember being double teamed once. Not pleasant. Kept stalking and killing me until they took everything I had of value......along with everybody else.
Of course there were those out there that HUNTED the PK'ers. I seem to remember a few like that in D1 as well. They set up games that were just PK'er traps. I ramble now. I'm sorry.

just pointing out that you guys have not only been complaining about flaming but you have also often been the first ones to jump to insults.. even when replying to a perfectly calm and valid point someone has made.
