Provided below is a video showcasing the current progressing evolution of the Diablo franchise. Included are all three Diablo games being played together in the same video for direct comparisons.
Nothing ever stays the same. You can't expect Diablo 3 to be so similar to Diablo 2 in style, simplicity in things, and even lighting. We're talking about a game that was made nearly a decade ago looking like a game that is still in production today, 2008 people.. The franchise is evolving, and certain things were added to add to the unverse; not take away from it.. People constantly complain about things that are different..Why not look for the similarities withing the game to the past games and show gratitude for it? I mean, up until now we didn't even know what to expect. A lot of us were hopeing that the view would stay the same, but still said that we would adjust to it if it was changed.. Now that the game is finally in front of us, the many similarities, the same isometric view, people look for what's different about it and still find shit to complain about..
Personally, this new Diablo has grown on me, and I can't wait for it to come out!

Lace me with the words of destruction and I'll explode, but supply me with the will to survive and watch the world grow.
*point at sig* look at the video link...I prefer it little more lighter than the vid but it show perfectly the difference between gothic and colorful gameplay in d3

I don't think anyone was asking for the graphics form D2 to be ripped and copied into the next installment.
I do think they expected the usual Diablo scenery involving pentagrams, blood, dead bloody bodies, bodies ripped in pieces, a dark scenery, grotesque images.
And don't give me that "it's been 20 years" bullshit either. It's been 20 years since Tyrael destroyed the Worldstone which actually keeps the demons and angels from turning Sanctuary into their own place to wage their war.
Sanctuary, after 20 years of no protection from the war between Heaven and Hell, would not look happy.
Ohhhkaay genius. Its nice to know you have an opinion, we all do.. Keep in mind though, if they had the tools that they have today in the Diablo 2 days, Diablo 2 would have looked exactly like Diablo 3 does today.. Its like going to a burger joint, they're giving you more meat on a bun.. A gigantic, massive burger!! To this you turn to them, and say, "no, this is not a good burger,I want much much less meat on it.." They ask you if you're vegetarian. You reply, "no.."They give you the odd look, and go back to doing whatever they were doing before your complaint..
Diablo 3 stays as it is, and it'll just get better.. I love it, and I will buy it. You, dont have to.

They could have added a bright blue light filter back then too, but they didn't. They used a black shadowy one.
Edit:
I've worked in a restaurant before... Your little.. Story thing doesn't even make sense. You do what the customer asks you to do, no questions asked. You can bitch and moan about them making you do extra work, but you do it or get fired. Welcome to the introductory lesson on business. You do what your customers want, not what you think is a great idea.

It was a pretty straight forward scenario that can be applied to pretty much anything in life.. Why you took it iterally, makes no sense to me..

I'm a customer too, and the game looks fine to me. I too disliked it, but not until others started disliking it first. I just realized that recently. I then changed my tune back to liking it again because I realized that chances of this game not delivering are slim to none. Sure it isnt everything that I was hopeing for, but then again, I never get anything exactly the way I want it unless I have full control over it.. I don't, we don't have full control over it. Be grateful that it looks the way it does, most were expecting the view to go, and the series to be transformed into a full fledged MMORPG.
p.s. Its not like the game looks bad, its just a little different. I'm sure that they'll still have darker environments in it. We've only seen but a % of it..

Wow so tell me diablo 1 graphics, lighting, design and color didn't change in diablo 2....seriously you gotta be blind. Improvements people; graphics evolve, lighting evolves, gameplay evolves. Why do people want to complain about making something better? Why willingly accept something new....hell lets just stick with the same old crap. Silly.

Once again more misunderstanding from the mindless.
No one wants to keep the old graphics. Everyone is in full support of a next-gen game.
The problem is Blizzard isn't using next-gen. They're not even using last-gen. But that's okay, even with old engines you can still make a masterpiece. Games don't need to be photo-realistic.
The other problem is the flat texturing. Artists use perspective in order to make you visualise an object in the third-dimension and promote realism, Blizzard seems to deny that games should ever have a minute amount of realism and just does the thing they've done in WC3 and WoW. They tried to do it in SC2 but complaints from the community drove about change.
The final problem is the lighting, yes it is a problem. I want you to go into a stone cathedral at night, with only the candles lit. I then want you to come back and tell me if a blue light was magically in the building keeping everything illuminated.
I can understand a bit of brightness outside, but that was nearly as bright and vibrant as Act 2 which was in a sun-scorched desert! At least in Act 2, when you went underground, it was dark and the same familiar stuff we're used to in a Diablo game.
Evolution is great. But there's a difference between evolution and entirely recreating. Blizzard is entirely recreating Diablo in an image that is not familiar.
They could have added a bright blue light filter back then too, but they didn't. They used a black shadowy one.

Every word was pure drivel. If the screen had been dark in the gameplay trailer, how in the hell would they have been able to make a demonstration?
In my personal opinion, I believe that since Diablo II and Diablo III are almost, if not two gaming generations apart, it was necessary for Blizzard to take a step ahead. I see no problem with the current art direction at all, and know that Blizzard's games are great as a unified whole, so it is unjustifiable to simply take one element and bash it.
Also, please note that in an interview with Keith Lee, Blizzard is around 20% complete with Diablo III. The massive jump to conclusions concerning the art direction was ridiculous, and what everyone saw in the gameplay video was 80% away from being finished. There's no need to start complaining now.
diablo1 in my opinon has a very high artistic value in terms of using the colours.that is why u can feel the dark atmostphere in almost everyway. Same goes to diablo2 except in the expansion. diablo 3, to me, has the common graphic, but has low artistic value when compared to diablo1, that's why , to some ppl, diablo3 is too wowish .

im just commenting on the graphics.
I don't think it's lower artistic value, just the switch from 2d to 3d.
And the adaptation of new styles. Blizzard has several new developers on the Diablo III team, some who come from other good gaming companies, like Relic.

Because Blizzard is a business. They have to cater to what their customers want.
If they just said "whatever" and started making bad games left and right, we wouldn't call them Blizzard, we would call them EA.

You can go to a resteraunt and order a burger with no onion, fine, they will do that.
Order the waitress to give you a backrub and its a completly different Story.
You say "Blizzard! I want Diablo 3"
They say "Fine! Here it is"
You say: "Blizzard! I want it to be in black and white!"
They say "We are making them game for you, its up to us to decide how we do it."
Thank you, and that's exactly the point I was trying to make.
