To counter question, why wouldn't you be able to accept that people might NOT want to be PK'ed once every 2 days and how do you think that EVERYBODY would set the anti-pk setting? ESPECIALLY if there are so many people really wanting to have the thrill of random PK'ing into the game? If so many people DO enjoy the aspects of PK'ing, then there would be alot more games than you say that would be open to such. Again I'm not trying to remove the aspect from the game. Only have things where if people do NOT want the risk they should not be forced to endure it and have bitter experiences in the game. Another option would be to set up PK'ing PvP servers for this, though a more expensive option for Blizzard.
Because the point of PKing is to set up an environment where it is NOT a choice. If someone clicks the PK button before making a game then it is completely consensual and no longer PK. Its just PvP at that point and i can get that experience in ANY game. One of the greatest aspects of D2 was how it revolutionized PvP by making it not a choice, but a duty. In the first 2 games, your forced to defend yourself, it was simply another part of the game. Thats how it is supposed to be in the diablo universe.
If that's what it has to be called to remove a blight from the gaming experience, sure thing.
Not too dissimilar from burglary, rape or murder in real life, is it?
not gonna even touch this cause its just plain stupid...
Not anymore. Adapt or die, son.
adapt to what? there is nothing to adapt to. you just play the game in the most boring way thinkable with no sort of interuptions or obstacles accept the game itself. Which wouldnt be too hard as everyone who is remotly good has always been able to solo diablo anyway. and maybe every once in a while popping into a duel game where people just stand at town line causing chaos for others to run into and die.
i think you mean adapt and be bored, because without PK diablo is a game you play through once or twice and then go back to your xbox.

Acutally the DUTY of the player is to KILL DIABLO. Not each other. Last I checked that was the story line. .
By having an anti-PK setting and enabling the PK feature, you are acutally INCREASING your risk of PK'ers coming into your game. Plus you would be able to more easily find people in the community that acutally enjoy the risk. Like I said before, if so many people enjoy PK'ing I don't think there will be a problem. Besides, I myself could make chars where one I could have just regular MP and one for PK'ing if I wanted. I don't want to be FORCED to do ANYTHING in the game and loosing hard earned loot. If I don't want the risk, I want to be able to choose. Is it that difficult. All games have to change to a certian extent in order to be viable to todays gammers. If an anti-pk feature IS viable then why not include it? If it is not, then Blizzard can decide that and not us.
My Mistake but in my mind the people that use the cheaters are mostly PVP'ers so I lumped them together.
some people that cheat are pvp players true, but in my experience a majority of the hacks arent for pvp but for item finding. maphack, while it does give an advantage in pvp it also helps the mfers get to their destination quicker so they can do more runs. pickit has nothing to do with pvp. meph/pindle/baal bots have nothing to do with pvp. there are a few, tppk, aimbot that give disadvantages but i havent seen too many people using those.
as far as the arguments i have read pro and con pk and pvp there are valid points on both ends. pk while cheap and unfair and possibly dissrupting your gameplay can be countered with as people have mentioned private games, level restrictions etc.. there was the argument against pk where your are unexpectedly pked by another char. which actually holds no water, you get a big warning that says you have been hostiled, even a little icon on your screen, and they also give you i think its 10seconds to decide what you want to do about it, so if your unexpectedly killed you must not have been paying attention in the first place, where if your not paying attention you have just as much of a chance being killed by a monster as you do a player.
as far as diablo 3 is concerned, personally i hope they leave in pk(which they pretty much stated they wont, but still it was an interesting part of the first 2 games), ive been playing d2 for 5 or so years and have only been pked a couple times, and all my games i make 8 player with no level restriction, anyone can join any of my games if they want(unless im doing mf runs where i make a private game for myself with a pass). its not as big a problem as a lot of people on here are making it out to be. hardcore, sure it sucks if you get pked.. its hardcore, dont play if you dont want a challenge. again, you have some options to help negate that problem... but like i said, its HARDCORE its supposed to be challenging.
i personally have never gone into low level games just to be an asshat and piss people off. im generally the guy that goes in to see if some new people feel like having a free rush, i like helping people out. if i feel like pvp i go into a "duel" or "pk" type game and lose a couple ears (i dont pvp on hardcore... i like my chars and yes there are a lot of hackers and cheaters that are better than me so i just stay away from it). but there are plenty of people that love that aspect of the game and the thrill of never knowing when ur hc char is gonna die.
last comment... for those of you saying, why should i have to go out of my way to make level restrictions, passwords, play with friends etc... well... if the pker is gonna go out of his way to find your game, hostile you, then hunt around for you.. hes putting in a lot of effort to pk you, why dont you just put in a little effort to stop that? i mean, its no different than in real life, people get picked on, its a fact.. weaker people get picked on by stronger people, it happens, it sucks.. but it happens. you learn how to keep yourself out of those situations as much as possible. just learn the game, there are ways to avoid these things.

what fun is there in NOT being forced to engage in combat that you might not want to be. i guess its way more fun for you to go through the same old structed boss fight over and over with zero competition.
my main point here is that (even though blizzard seems to have forgot this since max schaefer left and also they have been catering to the WoW crowed for the last however many years) diablo was about the random instance of PvP in as much as it was about playing the actual game. To say any different and to suggest that the sequel should be any different is basically saying it shouldnt be another diablo game. Infact without PK this game will feel so different that it might as well be under a different name.
how can any Diablo fan wish to remove Pk from the game.. even if they didnt like PKing.
Why must all these anti-pk people use strawman arguments? Can't you actually think of something at least resembling a valid argument? Oh wait ... you can't since you don't have any. What the real problem is is that you don't want to die and are to lazy to watch out for PKs so you'd rather Blizzard do it for you.
People like you are the perfect examples for the mediocre player that's to lazy to actually even try to do better and be the best.
quick little post i thought about. i was checking out the cains journal thing the other day and i remember it saying that there was a hero that came to the town to battle the prime evils and that he went out and fought diablo and came back... but then it ended up that the hero had diablo in him and turned evil... i kinda relate this to pking, hero comes to town to save the helpless people, ends up turning evil and killing the helpless people... pking is in the story itself.
Acutally the DUTY of the player is to KILL DIABLO. Not each other.
Last I checked that was the story line. .
last i checked the storyline of hardcore was kill or be killed. I hear players are much friendlier on the softcore realm....play there if you can't protect your char.

That's okay, we'll play in the non-PK games of Diablo III and be quite content enjoying the game itself.

What do you mean "zero competition"? The loot drops were pretty random in MP in D1 and D2 so one never knew what they would get. As of the PK'ing issue again, the only competiton would be between the 2 players, or more, not who killed the boss first or what not. If you think about it the competiton would increase because you would be only dealing with EXPERIENCED PK'ers.......hmmm....."EXPERIENCED PK'ers"?... That's what it's about. YOU WANT EASY KILLS!!! Diablo forbid you from having easy PK'S. Diablo ALSO forbid random PK'ing rampages going from MP game to MP game. Especially if hackers start running amok again and Blizzard has to play catch-up all the time to hinder the hackers. So why not let us that don't want to have deal with random PK'ers have the option to enable or disable those features? Or least not want to have to deal with it YET.

SmashBoy... ive seen quite a few of your posts on this and other threads and after hearing your opinion on anything relating to diablo.. i think its safe to say that you a) don't belong on these pages, are probably an unskilled and unknowledgable gamer, and c) may have not even played the older diablos (this last one is debatable, it could just be choice

We are NOT talking abotu hackers or griefers. We are talking about PK and Blizzard, before recently, has always been pro PK. Hell.. they CREATED PK. And the competition comes in when you and anotehr person, not in the same group, are after the same mob... what do you do then? you fight it out and winner takes all. OR.. it comes when someone wants to kill you and yoru forced to stand up for yourself.. You are right in one aspect. I am a mediocre player, but not lazy. I play to enjoy what I feel is enjoyable to me. I never said anything to keep you from having PK'ing at all. I only said stuff to limit your targets. Being the equivilant of a cyber thug in the game, whether on the receiving OR GIVING end, is not my idea of fun. I've had my fill of ears already. Mostly TAKING in D1.
What do you mean "zero competition"? The loot drops were pretty random in MP in D1 and D2 so one never knew what they would get. I'd rather have the ability to PK for the reason to laugh at people attempting to kill me as opposed to joining random games to kill a player. If you actually have a clue how to play and learn to play your character well, you can deal with your average player laughably easy.
It's not the idea that I want to actively seek out killing players in the game, but the fact that you CAN that leads me to support PKing. I want the ability to enforce myself on players who are crowding my areas. I want to be able to get revenge on that guy who just trained through half the map to kill the rare spawn before I could. I want a way to shut up a shit talker without ignoring him. You think people are immature with the hostile button? Imagine how bad things are going to be without one. People aren't going to attempt to kill you, they are going to grief you by stealing your kills, training mobs on you, and doing whatever they can to make your game miserable. The best part? There's nothing you can do to stop them except leave the game. Gee, this sounds familiar, except in the other scenario you can do something about it instead of get trampled on.
Imagine a game without cheats or exploits. Using the current d2 system, the player would have to be in town, click hostile to you, and then run from the entrance of the spawn to where you are. That gives you ADEQUATE time to do whatever it takes to be prepared to fight or get out. This whole "not prepared, easy kill" argument is garbage. You can easily be prepared to face whatever comes at you in a game. Take some time to learn how to do it and you will have a lot of fun embarassing players.
We are NOT talking abotu hackers or griefers. We are talking about PK and Blizzard, before recently, has always been pro PK. Hell.. they CREATED PK.
