This is Diablo we're talking about. Where you would run a dungeon over and over and over for the purpose of getting the best loot possible.
Unless they took that out (aka destroying the replayability) it's just hard to imagine what "money sink" they could possibly put in to counter affect that. Especially with the removal of potions.
Do you not understand what the term "instanced" is? Diablo games on B.Net are instanced.
I hope gold becomes more valuable. I don't look forward to people named "najiwaklnf" coming into rooms with their "Come to www.insertstupidname.com to find the cheapest Diablo 3 gold for only $__." though.

You must find the courage to step through this gate...
It's not only that energy is bad. Some items making it useless yes. Like infinity giving u insane mana regen or all kind of mana charms that give u just enough like 600 mana with infinity. In classic people have 400 mana or so but every game has a bo baba so thats what 800? Then you can buy endless amounth of mana pots from vendors. Also the need of dexterity in LOD has taken some stats away from other attributes.
Things used to be better. Before LOD you didn't have cast delays. Frozen orb did about 100 damage/spike at skill level 20 and ate 60 mana and yes you could cast it as much as your cast rate allowed. There was sorcs with some vita and some energy, my highest sorc had like 300 energy and 200 vita, it had around 1000 mana and 650 hp. THen there were pure energy sorcs hitting 1400+ mana with around 400 hp(if u had insane gear) without that insane you would have only 200-300 hp With this kind of build you were able to put out a lot more orbs.
Orbs ate a lot of mana so the tactic to clear cs was using a lot of static.. and a few orbs to slow mobs down.. after static had eaten their hp to 30% or so depending on the mobs light res you started orb.. maybe 10 orbs depending on the mobs.
I kinda hope they will fix the classes so that you would have to make a choice between high hp => safe or high mana=> fast killing with little downtime.

If gold is worthless, hardly anyone will want to announce trading them for real money. The fact that you saw it in D2 however means that when gold does become much more valuable, you'll see more of such people rather than less.

D2 had masses of people selling items. Not so much gold.
Gold should be reduced, both in the amount, as well as in the frequency at which they drop. In addition, items sold to shops should give you modest amounts of gold instead of the thousands we saw back in D2. Make it as rare and hard to come by a drop as gems or runes, and it'll be valued much more.
Great suggestion, this will make gold worthy and manageable. They already did something very nice to gold, being able to loot gold just by walking over it. This saves the hassel of looting every individual gold pile.
Now that I think about it, the reason why Money is so useful in the world is because can trade it for anything. The reason why Gold failed in Diablo 2 was because it was so easily gained and easily lost (travincal runs vs dying+toll)
What made Mesos(gold) worth so much in Maplestory was because the marketing system was all based on Mesos. You can set up a vendor and list the items you have for sale and the required Mesos.
For example:
SoJ for 99 Gold
(I am only using maplestory and mesos as an analogy as they have a very well done economy)
The above post brings to mind one thing. If gold does become valuable, then the loss of gold (especially from the stash) upon death will hopefully not make a comeback in Diablo III. They could make the experience hit bigger to make up for that for all I care, but losing valuables is not a good idea.
Well... They can reduce it so that you only lose the amount of gold you are carrying. That way you can store every gold piece in stash incase. If you are Pk'd in the middle of training (with plenty of gold) you can be easily screwed over!

I was thinking the exact same thing about the loss gold upon death. I was playing single player on D2 LoD today and I was in Act 4 on the 4th seal and got smoked by the extra fast demons and my body was stuck for a good... 10-15 deaths. I went from 93,000 in my belt to about 14. I wasn't all to happy about that. I wish I could remember the message it gave me when I lost money... Something like "Your death has taken its toll." lol.
I know I really wouldn't be happy if Gold is as valuable in D3 as the items are in D2.
lol - useless ?
i could not remember beginer in the game - not having trouble with both of them.
it will be very unlikely to seen them removed in D3, aslong i wish - Diablo 3 to remain with really weighted skill system from Diablo 2 - version 1.10.
The beginning of the game, yes. Later on though, you didn't even need gold to start a new character, considering rushes. All pros in d2 do not use gold or energy at all. I am not saying you are a noob(I dont use that language), but the majority of players that know what they're doing do not use gold or energy.
(repairing an item and gambling are exceptions)
(single player is an exception)
Maybe energy should have a role in cast rate just like dexterity and block rate
gold has been discussed too much
the key goals for gold to work as a currency are
1. Npcs must have items for sale that are worth buying, no magic pieces of shit like in d2
2. Not too much or too little gold should drop
3. Auction house using only gold as one side of the trade (only bidding gold)

Well even pros can build an energy shield sorc. That one has all points in energy.
