I guess to show off the way the game works? I'm not entirely sure myself though.
That's possible, but if the visual causes active character suspension to display, I'd be sorely pissed off. I would hope that you'd at least have some opportunity to do something about it.
Alright this is probably a scripted event and theres probably no way to stop it.
Which is one thing about many games I've never liked. Don't put something in the game and make my character stand by like a zombie while it happens. If they had created some sort of magical barrier, it would have been one thing, but the character looks on as if he were enjoying himself.

Yeah, I agree.
I want to be able to kill one of the summoners, which wouldn't do stop the summoning.
I want the character to say something in an aghast voice if you click on the virgins (or evil cultist women) before they explode.
And I want to be able to kill the virigins just for the heck of it, which would stop the summoning, but would let you fight the summoners, just for the heck of it.
And I want all that to be part of a patch, so that the game can come out sooner and I can play it!!!!!!!
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Ranger - Ranged Weapon Mastery (fire a bow or javelins like a machine gun!), Traps (MK style!), Pets (lions, tigers, and bears oh my!) - physical damage based
Demonologist - Bone Spells (Necro style!), Avatar (shapeshift into a demon!), Furies (evil spirits that hang around you, giving party bonuses) - mix of physical damage and magic
LEAP ATTACK!!!!! PLAGUE OF TOADS!!!!!
SLOW TIME!!!!!
I don't think you will be able to stop these scripted events as it would take away the coolness of bosses entering in an awesome way. If, like the big fat boss guy, he gets summoned piece by piece, and you could just stop it by attacking his summoners, then you would never need to fight the boss. It would make it too easy.
Then script a reason why he couldn't intervene, don't make it look like he's just some slackass too chicken/stupid to jump in and stop the horrific event from taking place.
So would you rather just stop all the bosses before they've even gotten there yet?
Siegebreaker just bust the fuck in and let you know he was there. That's not something that could have been prevented.
The Fatman's McServants took their time summoning the bastard and the barbarian stood idly by, waiting for him to show up. Why not just break out a cigarette and throw on an MP3 player while he waited, perhaps a small table of coffee and donuts to help pass the time? He looked as though he could have taken a nap in a la-z-boy with a half-read novel on his chest...
The main character... the EPIC HERO... did not look very heroic, waiting for the monster to form at the expense of three lives. What part of this are you not grasping? Make the hero look as though he didn't have a choice or something, if you have to. Don't make him look like an idiot!
Why in the hell did they just stand there and watch those virgins die? Why didn't he cleave some skulls open before the hideous thing came into being?
WHY?!?
Cheers,
SmashBoy (like HellBoy, 'cept not)
The answer is simple.
Its a demonstrations video not a " look at me im a great player" video.
How fun would it be if the guy playing runs in and kills all the cultists
and then says - If i didnt kill all the cultists they would summon a big fat demon .
I dont know about you but I wanted to see the demon .

And that's why I am asking the questions. Will the real gameplay allow for us to do this? Something tells me no, and that's what bugs me.
Cheers,
SmashBoy (not unlike ThrashBoy, the Skateboard Wonder)
Maybe you can in the real game, but like I've said many times.. this is a demo of a game far from completion - people are thinking far too much about the game. Give it a year then complain.
This is the inherent problem, if we wait until after the fact to ask the questions, it is then too late. That's the reason for all the "art" threads, isn't it? Although, unlike those threads, I'm not suggesting that my opinion is dominant. I am simply wondering what everyone else thinks. Forums are here for the purpose of exchanging ideas, correct? "Giving it a year" doesn't stop me from wondering these things in the back of my mind.
Even if you can't at the moment, it could completely change in a year. Don't freak out about things already since everything could change... it's far far far from release.
So discussing things openly is "freaking out"? Boy, the dictionary sure has changed since I was a kid.
I am almost positive (i might be wrong though...I'm just saying) that this would be scripted, because something else in the game looked scripted as well...that is the bridge collapsing. You think he would have been killed or made it across before it collapsed otherwise? that would be cool but i doubt it.
That being said, it does annoy me a bit, but at the same time, its far from my biggest concern, so whatever happens happens.
It kind of seems to me that the Barbarian stayed where he was because he knew there was a friggin GIGANTIC EXPLOSION coming.
I would expect if you were in the circle, you would die instantly, or if you were on the edge of the circle it would take you down to about 10% health. I mean all the summoners die with their bodies being thrown in all directions at the speed of sound. The statues and pillars all exploded.
I think that is a little bit more damage than the Barbarian can take at that point in the game.
Sure you could kill one of the summoners, but if you don't act fast enough, you are already dead, or near dead for the Glutton to finish you off in one or two hits.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.

That's what I was going to say, but I was going to mention the XP actually.
Who said they were virgins btw? I don't even think they exist in sanctuary...

Most of the girls we found on dungeons are either dead, mutilated, burned or impaled.

that's how i kinda feel, though most bosses you couldn't stop i feel that these events are the type where you have to wait and see what happens.

Because the person playing the barbarian, who was showing use a game play demo knew it was going to happen.
