I have never seen the Easter Island statues. What are they?
I do not recall saying the statue looked unrealistic, nor insisting on anything at all. If I remember correctly, I was offering an understanding viewpoint and actually theorizing with the creator of the thread; I took things further by clarifying his point and offering a sample explanation as to why it may look like that. I apologize if your intention is not hostile (it is hard to tell on forums sometimes), but I am wondering why my personal opinion about what is a creepier statue to me is being scrutinized.
Again, I apologize if you did not intend to come across that way, and if I am simply misinterpretting.
It isn't -your- opinion that is being scrutinized. What I'm trying to do is offer a reason for the look as it is, to try and balance out the cries for its immediate, necessary revisal.
Cheers,
SmashBoy (like HellBoy, 'cept not)
And by the way... yikes, never mind, how did that image blow up like that... thanks for providing one, Maga.

you must be the nicest person with that sig here. cuz every other discussion (i have witnessed) ends in a fight.:)
Btw SMASHBOY, what i mean by them telling us about how every structure relates to the creatures that built it is sensible whilst showing us the game for the first time.
I don't believe in flames, though I do believe in light-hearted jabbing once in a while (I try to make it pretty clear that I'm not being serious at times like that). So, no, I have never been offended and I am not attacking anyone.
As far as the description is concerned, did they really go into a lot of detail about everything else that you saw in the video? I admit, I didn't listen to everything, as I had a wife and daughter that were watching the video with me, and we spent a lot of time talking over the narrator. I just don't recall them getting into a lot of detail about the game lore; everything I heard revolved around game mechanics.
I might be way off, but is it possible that the gargoyles were designed to have a more noble appearance rather than a demonic one? I dont recall wether or not they mentioned if the building was originally created for demonic or holy purposes, however, if it were the latter, than the original gargoyle makes much more sense to me.

Solid point. The buildings could have been abandoned and simply taken over.

P.S. I re-watched the gameplay video, no mention of lore that I could find.
wow....they can build a huge building with traps and everythign...fountains even! but they cant make a nice statue? lol i doubt it is like that intentionally.
Long, long time Diablo fan; short, short time with DiabloFans. Gargoyles in a dungeon are a means to an end. They are there to decorate and help enahance the mood.
If the idea was to make me feel as if I'm crawling around in the ruins of someone's joyous castle, then blizzard failed. One happy gargoyle failed at the task. More would be needed than simply that.
If the idea was to make a spooky dungeon, then blizzard failed. Happy gargoyles don't give me the creeps. Either way... fail.
Main point is. I want to play Diablo. If blizzard has some idea about it being 20 years later and all the horror is gone from the world. Well that was a really idiotic decision in lore writing wasn't it? That's not the game I want to play. Frickin' yawn.
Gimmie the scary creepy dungeon to crawl through, that's what we all want isn't it? Don't go trying to justify how the lame "imagininary lore" you just made up makes your art direction all ok. That's the same difference. Change the lore to be something we actually want to play.
This is all acedemic anyway. Since the concept shots for Diablo 3 look like a game I actually want to play. Bt the final art looks nothing like the concept art. Fail again.
Wise up blizzard.

I was wondering how many posts it would be before someone made mention of that.
Can't help it, prefer to type them out myself.

It isn't always the same, just usually is. And I generally type 90+ wpm, so it doesn't take long at all.

Just a fan. This was one of the first threads about this topic that seemed to show some maturity, and no one was making the point i saw.
