I heard Diablo 3 is gonna be about the same length of Diablo 2... Is that with or without the LOD expansion? Cause I found Diablo 2 to be incredibly short. I could get through all 5 acts in about 12 hours... Given the length of mmorpg's to date now, how come multiplayer action rpg's always have to be so damned short?
I don't want to wait this long for a game that'll take me half a day to complete

If you actually play all of Diablo 2 - it's a very long game. I'm talking about all of the possible catacombs and dungeons. When did anyone (in the later years of the game) actually go through Act 3? They always just grabbed a durance waypoint from someone and skipped to Mephisto. Who here actually went through the Palace in Act 2? They always just grabbed a waypoint to the Arcane Sanctuary.
I admit that I did the same. I never even went into those optional portals that were in Act 5. I think I went in one once and that was it.
Eh... me. Everytime I play through D2 I explore every single area, every dungeon, cave, catacomb. I love exploring in D2 because it's different every time you play it.
I hope to do the same this time with Diablo 3. I hope that "rushing" and "fast leveling" is completely done away with. I want item drops and leveling to happen at the pace that it's supposed to happen - which is through playing the entire game and exploring each dungeon.
It should be as long as Diablo II with the expansion added. Also I think Diablo III should get two expansions instead of just one like the previous games.

Would REALLY like to see some proof of this discussion even happening.
Not trying to be a douche, but no sense in fretting if this was just made up by some dude somewhere.

It's time to welcome the other 80% of the color wheel to a Diablo game.

Not too long and not too short, just long enough to keep you interested.
I doubt people still want to play the same character for more than a year if Blizzard decide to set up a 10,000 floors dungeon to lengthen the game time.

Well u've missed out a lot. I always get khalims items, run thru palace kill Fire Eye.. etc. Running thru palace takes like 2 minutes 5 if u kill some mobs.
Just today morning I got my khalims will in nightmare and this sorc was asking dura wp several times.. I finally ran to durance after killed the council and all that struggle in the new long durance of hate is real pain in the arse.. especially when there are dolls that you cannot kill and u just have to escape. So there is no way I'm gonna give these people wp that just sit in chat and wait when someone else does all the work. This sorc was doing councils meanwhile while waiting someone to get the wp.. why didn't he go get the khalims will parts? In that time i'm sure he would have gotten it by himself and go get the wp.
I hate these lazy people nowdays that doesn't care anything else but to get to last act and leech some exp in 8 player group since they can't do shit alone.
I don't mind the game being longer, but they need to make the world interesting though and open, I hope they don't make another mistake like ACT3 in Diablo 2. That was the worst act in the game in my opinion, far to closed in its design that it felt like being locked in a dungeon all the way through.
I also want it so the game can't be glitched at all, the rushing is a hazard to the community.
I remeber reading a Q and A where someone asked how long will Diablo 3 be, and the answer wasd about the same length as Diablo 2. I can't remeber where I read that though

Perhaps they mean if you only do the main quests the game will be about the same but if you want to explore around, do optional quests it will be bigger.... on the world map they have 15 towns; that's 3 per act + a Hell (and Heaven?) area. That's a lot of places.
A decade later i would expect them to at least make it a bit longer than Diablo 2.. I mean, sure the world itself could be relatively the same size, but if it contains more quests then the game becomes a bit longer.. Plus, when he says, "about the same size as Diablo 2, " I hope that he means D2: LoD, not just D2.. If they make it the size of D2 alone, then it will feel much shorter to people because throughout the years most were playing, and got used to the size of D2: LoD, not just D2..

Lace me with the words of destruction and I'll explode, but supply me with the will to survive and watch the world grow.
Even though it is all about replayability, I would like Diablo 3 to be longer than Diablo 2. If it is longer there is even more to replay, all the better. I think it will probably be longer, they are trying to flesh out the world and make us feel more immersed in it and we are going to be visiting more areas in Sanctuary. I hope it is longer, but it is too early to know or worry about. And yes, I have spent many many hours on Diablo 2 haven't we all? That is why it is such a great game, even though it wans't very long we have been playing it for years. (the many mods out there also helped) I know when D3 comes out I'll be spending many many hours on it, but I still hope it is longer than D2.

I dont get how making a game with dated graphics, the length of a game that's almost 10 years old, that's the problem with games these days, they're ALL about graphics and less about story, more than they'd like to admit, of course it's not as easy as it used to be to make a game, but even that isn't an excuse, this is why Blizzard is so consistently popular, because they add shit loads of content and then switch them around to find a balance.
I mean consumers are constantly asking for more content, that's why PC gaming is so powerful, it's strengths are in the modability. Games like Total Annihilation, Elder Scrolls Oblivion, Supreme Commander and Jedi Knight 4: Jedi Academy were made awesome not just for the vanilla, all of which were pretty good (with the exception of Oblivion, as you begin to notice the serious crap you looked over) but the fun mods that made the game funner, like the Ice Cream truck from Total Annihilation that would scream the Elmo Song and then a baby shooting him and saying "Shut the fuck up" when you would select it, and then fold out into a huge turret and blast the hell out of what ever. It was just great stuff, this is proof that even good games can be made great in the face if time because of the community within the game.
The length of the game is just as important. Ignoring the vanilla in spite of the community creates Command and Conquer 3's

I could guess. In my barb I still haven't gotten Immortal Kings Armor. I did so many runs over and over trying to get it too. Oh well, I haven't played that character for a long time anyways. I put a lot of time just into that one character.
