Back in 1.09, before synergies, you had less different builds, because less skills were viable. Wanted a Sorc? Had to use FO, Nova or Meteor, (or 2 of them). No other options worked effectively. Couldn't use CB, Lightning, Chain Lightning, Blizzard, Fireball etc...
No, no, congrats to you. Do you have any idea how badly 1.10 destroyed diablo 2? Any and all serious duelers before and after will agree. The ONLY improvement they made was nerfing piercing guided arrows, because that was absurdly overpowered and everyone knew it.

Ah, such luck then, that Diablo isn't primarily a PvP game, and that Blizzard have explicatly stated that they want to play on the strengths of co-op and teamwork for Diablo III.

I think most of us would agree that killing meph/pindle the second time, and all times thereafter, is simply a chore that gives us the wealth we can build proper pvp characters with. Sure, levelling up is a lot of fun in Diablo 2, the first few times. But if it weren't for pvp, Diablo 2 would be long, LONG dead. What the hell are you going to do once you've got the best gear on every character possible, and have built each one from the ground up 10-15+ times (more like 25 for my barb, but I started making barbs when I was 12 years old =P). That's right: pvp.

Good Necro could deal with sorcs and amas in 1.09. Also this is from what I remember 1.08 some assasins were ok versus sorc and amas.
1v1 isn't so fun anyways, team duels are the best stuff. 1v1 is like 2v2 arena in WoW there is always the flavor of the month that rules with the new patch that gave some more power to some of their skills.. it's pretty hard to balance things without breaking other parts of the game.
1.06 pvp was best tho..
You fill synergies later, depending on the build... you don't get 20 teeth, then 20 bone arrow, then 20 bone spirit? No, you get a bit of teeth, 20 bone arrow, 20 bone spirit, and THEN teeth which makes no sense whatsoever.
Why would I want to put Teeth on any necro.. oh yeah cuz im forced.. I'm ok with Bonespear and BS being synergies.. cuz you use them both.. but do you use teeth?(i know there is some teeth build but its just a variant that also has spirit and spear maxed)
People didn't use firebolt for 5 years and still they don't use it.. why we need to put points into it..I'd much rather get more damage from fireball synergy and put points to Warmth or something else than firebolt. Many dual tree builds leave firebolt out of the synergy anyways.. so we are in the same situation as before.
In my opinion the synergies could have been better if they had kept the damages lower. So drop blizzard damage a lot and with synergies you would get to same damage as 1.09 level 20. This way they wouldn't have needed to add monster healths and other builds would have still been ok, like the Iron Maiden Necro that now isn't even able to deal damage over monster health regen.

1.1 nurfed alot of things, but that doenst mean its a bad game. They balanced out the game and removed "easy" way outs.
