It was a disappointment that there are only five classes in D3. I think the witch-doctor is a bad replacement for the undead-caster. Most importantly, he is a waste of one of the five precious classes.
Why?
EDIT: Commonly argued: "There were only five classes in D2 - LIVE WITH IT."
My reply: I am fine with 5 classes, what I'm not fine with is the witch-doctor occupying one of the five classes.
Primary reason:
He looks so weird and ugly.
EDIT: He looks weird and ugly with or without gear. Some argue that the necromancer was ugly also, but many would disagree. Some also say whats ugly or not is up to perspective.
In the game-play trailer, "There's nothing better than smashing enemies with your friends, and its about time we brought one in. This is the Witch-Doctor, a completely new class in Diablo 3." When I first saw this guy come out of the portal, he looked very uncool and weird. If the necromancer popped out of the portal, I'm sure the results would've been better. However I'm sure people will get used to his ugliness, I just prefer the necromancer's looks.
His class name even sounds weird. it doesn't sound dark at all! I would much prefer the warlock, shaman, and best of all, the necromancer.
EDIT: Commonly argued: "Who said the witch-doctor was supposed to be dark?!"
My reply: How is he not dark when he can summon a zombie wall? Explode his own pets? Use locust swarms to devour his opponents? Cast a firebomb with an evil spirit? Horrify his opponents?
EDIT: Commonly argued: "The Warlock and Shaman are not even relevant classes!"
My reply: The warlock, shaman and necromancer are not relevant classes but they sound a lot less weird than "Witch-Doctor" - this was the point I was trying to make.
I am not a hardcore fan of the necromancer, but if you are going to replace such a meaningful class, please choose wisely.
EDIT: Commonly argued: "Blizzard said specifically that the WD is not replacing the necromancer"
My reply: True, I never knew this, but now I do, and I still believe the necromancer will not be in D3.
The necromancer will NOT make an appearance in D3 as long as the witchdoctor stays
(THIS STATEMENT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH D3 EXPANSION.)
So there we have it. Barbarian, Witchdoctor, Amazon, Sorceress, and #5. With the Witchdoctor acting as the dark-caster type, there is no room for another dark-caster [my beloved necromancer]. As for Amazon and Sorceress, there class names will probably change to fit the male/female function. I refused to call some classes a Warrior or Rogue Type because of the anti-wows in here.
Producer Keith Lee gave several hints towards the replacement of the necromancer.
1) "What do you think about the Witch Doctor possibly replacing the Necromancer?"
2) "If you played “Diablo II,” does it really matter to you?"
3) "And I think that one of the things that might be hard is the fact that we might have to give up a few character classes that people loved in ‘Diablo I’ and Diablo ‘II.’"
Again, let me repeat, Diablo III Expansion MAY or MAY-NOT have the necromancer. What I am trying to say is, for Diablo III Classic, the Necromancer is gone.
Haha, that is unless they get rid of the Witch Doctor, then the necromancer will have his place.
Why does the witch doctor have a firebomb spell? THIS DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. Fire should remain unique to the sorceress (unless you have elemental traps like the assassin in d2).
But a plain firebomb spell?
EDIT: Commonly argued: "It's Firebomb not fireball."
My reply: Fixed
EDIT: Commonly argued: "Other classes like druids and assassins have fire spells too."
My reply: Druids use fire as a form of nature like the firestorm and armageddon spell. Assassins as I have mentioned in my original post are an exception because its a bomb.
EDIT: Commonly argued: "He is actually throwing a skull that blows up and you can see a burning soul released on impact."
My reply: Understood.
I like the undead wall. The mongrels, locust swarm, horrify and other spells are pretty uncool.
EDIT: Commonly argued: "Locust swarm is just like rabies from the druid!"
My reply: I don't really like the whole idea of fusing the druid with the necromancer to create the Witch-Doctor.
EDIT: Commonly argued: "Horrify is just like terror from the necromancer curse tree."
My reply: This is more evidence of the necromancer being replaced by the Witch-Doctor
EDIT: I also like the pet detonation spell (Do not correct me with the name)
Just my thought. I have to admit, the WD Looks pretty ugly. His spells seem all over the place.
The barbarian totally overshadowed the WD in the gameplay trailer.
I like him more and more watching his offensive spells. They have great audio to coincide with the attacks (which sound impacting) and the visuals are superb.

It's more resembles fire blast (Assassin) than anything else. How did you feel when the Assassin got that skill (as you pointed out)?
Yea, the Witch-Doctor doesn't seem that fun, but we only saw a part of him so we just got to wait and see if he is good or not. I think we can trust Blizzard to make the Witch-Doctor a fun character to play.
The only thing I can disagree with is his prancing-fairy colors, his huge feathered mask and his name; "Witch Doctor". Can I motivate that dislike? No, not really. It's probably the "Doctor" part that just doesn't sit well. Why not "Witcher" or "Witchmaster"?
Ah well..
Really? I dislike the witch part of it. Being that usually, according to mythology or something, a witch is female and a warlock is male.
I personally love him. At first I was a little adverse to him, but the Witchdoctor grew on me. I'll admit the random Firebomb seems a little out of place, but we don't know his full list of spells yet.

I love you this is exactly how I see the WD myself, blizzard has to understand looks/coolness. Why do you think Blood elfs/Humans/Night Elfs are the most popular races, @ least make the WD more look friendly, he is of now the ugliest class in Diablo so far.

I'm pretty sure in one of the interview videos linked in the news thread, the Blizzard rep was saying that it was not a spell. More like a physical process of igniting a fuel in some sort of a container (I'm pretty sure he mentioned that a skull could have been used as the vessel) and throwing it at the mobs.

I agree, which doctor looks, and sounds like a gay name. It sounds like it's taken straight from WoW. He doesnt look diablo related at all. And the name is so fucking annoying, Ill never play with that char. Barb did look more impressive and very happy to see him return in D3
as long as they make lore enough to make it fit in diablo, i will be ok, but his name truly sucks imo
witch?....... doctor?! that saound totally silly to me
I doesn't really sound silly. The term "Witchdoctor" has been used to refer to the African tribe Shamans. They were believed to have supernatural powers, including powers of healing as well as causing harm.

I love the name Witch Doctor and it doesn't sound like it's from WoW at all. His voice fits his character very well.
Come on man, diablo classes should be like: Sorcerer, Necromancer, Warrior, some holy-related class. But 'witch Doctor'..... fuck, that sounds like from those trolls in WoW.....lame!

1) Blizzard never said the WD was a replacement for the Necro.
2)The WD isn't supposed to be a "Dark" class.
3)It's a firebomb, its supposed to be a voodoo concoction that explodes.
4)Don't even worry about spells and looks right now by the time D3 comes out the WD will probably have a new look and the spells will be rounded out and of course the barb overshadowed the WD, it's a returning character that Blizzard has had more experience with and they would't want the fans to be disapointed with it.
