Yes, but those events take place in a non-befitting environment. Think: exploding virgins in Undercity, Oral beheadings in Elwynn forest, and cleaved corpses in.. well.. you get the idea.
Plus they're still cartoon-animated to a degree. Still though its good that they are there! It's relieving
By the way that blood looks pretty awesome in your sig! Love the color lol.. Thankfully they are doing SOME things right!
Look at the environments with an unbiased eye for a second. What do you see? I see art, and I am very pleased, for I had wanted D3 to be a masterpiece of artistic design and when I look honestly at the game trailer that is what I see. What is it that makes those levels cartoony? A little green tinge? A rainbow? It just seems a bit nit picky to me. You saw the beginning of D3, there were two big boss battles within the first 20 minutes. What was at the beginning of D2? Grass and a cave. I call this a big improvement.
I am extremely excited for D3 as well, but I think the only changes that need to happen with the graphics is simply the textures of the background are not dark enough. The char models and everything I think are fine, I just the colors of say the dungeons and chars don't have any contrast too each other.
However, I believe that this is only because the game is still far away from release and I have a lot of faith in Blizzard to make this a complete game and definitely surpass our expectations as fans.

Be honest, look at the two images in my sig, and if you were forced to choose which looked most like WoW and which looked most like the previous Diablo style, which would you pick? honestly?

Signed.
I don't mind either really, but i lean more for agree because there's just so much more detail and feeling with the enhanced images.

Yea, I am pretty sure they will add darker parts to the game in other dungeons and Blizzard never failed us so we just have to believe them.
I'd rather see it stay true to it's origins, but I also know Blizzard isn't going to wait for this release. The investment has been made and the clock is ticking, at the end of the day it's about business. The petition may serve though as a reminder to Blizzard they need to not lose touch with their customers, a little market research might have saved them from seeing a petition at all.
The next Diablo expansion which will no doubt come may reflect some of the changes asked for and get them back on track. I'm sure at the very least it has probably vindicated a few inside who may have spoken up but were not listened to, no doubt the petition and the board chat has been the topic of at least one staff meeting. I'm sure the next video they release will be to try to quell the concern, so we may see some of the darker scenes.
Yeah, it's about the fucking bible guys, the bible has vibrant colors and gothic satire themes.
Would that make Diablo akin to Jesus? I mean he's the only one who died and came back. Now we're awaiting the second coming.

Why do people care so much about how its not dark enough. Diablo isn't about the color or art direction.
Since when... and according to whom? If you are reading the forums I would hope this little theory of yours is beginning to develop cracks. When has art direction not mattered!?

Only matters to some. Many don't care one way or the other.

That's really what Diablo 2 is, Medieval Christian Satire. Before the Schism, before the Reformation, god fearing, devil fearing, woman hating, crusading Christian Europe.
But the people that say everything is fine as is fail to realize that no matter what the gameplay is going to be good because they know exactly what they're doing on that and that following suit with the people for an artistic reform only means improvement to the environment and indeed the quality over all. It's a win/win for the gameplay centered people really, it's both fun to play and really freaking beautiful.
The people obsessed with lore will get nothing but what they're expecting, they've laid out the perimeters for that already, rest assured.
It's not those people that are against the reform the most, it's the impatient people. The people that don't care what it looks like, as long as it's up to the blizzard standard and fun.
They are an afront to the potential of this game, and just because the Blizzard community dared put a hand on blizzards shoulder as if it's insulting for the community to remind the makers what they're doing something wrong. As it's us who will feel the burn if we let those people silence the dissent, it's our money they're getting, would you want lemonade that's 80% lemonade mix and 20% Water? No, that's a terrible product, it could have been good lemonade but it's his first time trying this, his brother was better at it back in 2000 but this time after mixing world of orangecraft for so long he tries Diabloaid and does it wrong.
No that cannot be permitted, we must help him make the best lemonade he can.
Well, I kinda changed my mind...
Color probably won't be so bad when I think about it, yes a game should have different variety of colors.
However that laughing lion statue?must be replaced :P.
I haven't changed my mind. I always like the color, the greens and blues make it scarier imo. However, I DO NOT want to see another SS/Video that shows tables/candles/chairs/carpets/railings/floors/chandelier/statue/cobweb/chest/banner/campfire that my level 70 human priest from a different universe has seen before.
It would be nice to see a blizzard rep talk to us in contained topics like this particular one, people seem to be ignoring it mostly or even a formal topic of their own, as it's highly unlikely that they are ignoring this forum when they have us on their site, we're one of the more active ones too.
I think they have a few folks looking into all of this and filtering out the people that are threatened by others. We reallly need a formal culmination of our points of view of the 3 parties.
But I can understand that some people don't feel this change - I can accept that some care about the gameplay, the loot, the fun of killing hordes of monsters. Can you accept that other people care about the design, the style of the graphics and the visible change?
I don't mind the fact that some are against the change. My problem is many of them don't seem to acknowledge those that are comfortable with the changes. They claim that people who accept the new artwork or graphics are not true fans of the series or even worse are working against the game.
As for me I fall somewhere in the middle or your triangle, although closer to the gameplay aspect, even though I argue against the petition. For me the petition is just unacceptable, it's like going behind the back of the community. I know that seems confusing, but that's how I feel. It's because instead discussing it and coming to an agreement inside the community it demands a unilateral change to a darker theme. Some of the altered screens looked good, but some of the altered screens actually looked worse.
I don't really see the opposing side as stupid, we just disagree. The bad part is that the petition has polarized us, and thus we see eachother adversaries rather than a community.

The biggest problem is...what new artwork?
