Crap psyfect. No matter how hard to try to incite mature, adult discussion, the Internet always degenerates into a formula that ends in a Hitler reference.
I didn't see him say that. That's horrible and I pray it hasn't offended or hurt anyone. Let's try to keep the discussion to the matter at hand.
I think the reason that people are shitting themselves over thinking Diablo 3 has borrowed from WoW is because that was once of the concerns before the game was announced.
So once the game was announced, they immediately tried to compare D3 to WoW, and the smallest similarity sent off red flags in the puny minds, and now they're running around crying foul.
It's times like this that you wish that an IQ test would need to be administered before internet access is given to people.
I've said the same thing many times; albeit in a kinder, more understanding tone. But, I agree with the general idea of your statement.
So what- people are passionate about their opinions. nothing new there.
"Personally, I don't want to be affiliated with a change in art direction. Some of you would like to make the claim, "Yeah, we made that change happen," I'm sure, and while your opinion is valued, there are ways to go about it like a true, professional, diablofan would."
Wait... so your saying by some people voicing their opinion it makes them not a true, professional, diablofan? It kind of implies that they are being rude and from what Ive seen it quite the oppisite. Its the people who are defending blizzard that throws insults around and what not. "Personally, I don't want to be affiliated with a change in art direction." Do you imply those who want an art direction are rude and you dont want to be affiliated with them because of that fact? Or is it simply because of all the arguing? So some people posted their opinions then a lot of other people start insulting them defending fan blizzard and a few even call us so called "complainers" quite rude comments.
I also dont understand what your sorry for-an opinion? I really dont see the whole point of this thread. You want people to seek redemption and say sorry for having an opinion? Thats the only real thing I can understand coming from this post. I dont know why your saying sorry. So what now... should people accept you being sorry for having an opinion? I'm confused.
hes post was about bieng sorry for tearing diablo fans right down the middle, creating an arguement that should have never been created, just simply becuase of one persons oppinion. hes post is here becuase he is appologizing for poeple like YOU. poeple who want to take someones opinion and flame it till its burnt crisp.
I gotta quote this guy, he put it beautifully in my opinion, should fit here.

The problem is - being a Diablo fan means liking Diablo. But the reason for liking the franchise might be very different. That's why there's a rift, or simply a dispute among fans.
Before I continue I want to state that no matter what my personal opinions are, objectively speaking not a single fan is really "right" and "wrong" - it is in fact a matter of personal tastes and priorities.
Some people like Diablo purely because of it's gameplay - this can be possible without caring about the art. They like achieving things, progressing through the game, looting - you know, all the fun stuff. They don't give a fart about graphics as long as the game looks nice and clean - and that's fine.
Some people like the progress and the lore - they are not necessarily as "hardcore" as the previous group when it comes to leveling - they like all the small things like books with lore, talking to NPC, etc....
And there there's this group that cares about graphics because they are visual people - they absorb the atmosphere of the game not only through gameplay, sound effects but also graphics. It somehow works on their imagination - helps them to "feel" the game better.
Lastly - those three groups are a vertices of a triangle and inside this triangle there are lot's and lots of people closer to one or the other of those vertices.
Now - I am a member of the third group - I care about the visuals. very, very much - I am a draughtsman. For me, Diablo I had a distinctive visual style - gothic architecture, dark atmosphere colors used for emphasis. Diablo I was about a medieval village with a medieval church having a deamon infestation problem. Deamons and magic were the unrealistic aspect - the rest was visibly medieval and to some extent realistic.
I also like the fact that the game was designed in a way that made me think that the Hell would be full of fire as a natural progress from the Caves - and not having any fire in Hell was quite a bold, but a stylish decision. And I know they probably did it because of the gfx limitations - still it inspires me.
Now, I am not a fan of D2 graphic style - but I think I can see a method in the design of that game. Act 1 was again quite medieval and gothic - especially at the end. Act 2, while relatively bright, was inspired by the Ancient egipt - and ancient Egypt is equally mystic, dark and atmospheric as Gothic Europe. And the endless sand dunes correspond quite well with the motiff of the constant journey of the Wanderer. Not to mention, few things are as dark as tombs - and if Egyptians were good at something, it was in buiding various tombs. For me it went downhill from there - act 3 was so so, although I kind of liked the idea of using the Mayan inspiration. Act 4 was a dissapointment after the Hell in D1, which managed to be quite.... convincing without using lot's of fire at all.
One thing bugs me in d3. People say that the graphic is stylish... to some extent I can agree - the outdoors look quite stylish because of the textures.
But when it comes to architecture and dungeons - they turned into Generic Fantasy style - and as someone said it before - stone is not bluish nor greenish. This is why some people say it looks like WoW - because while W2 was also quite medieval (with shades of celtic and others), Blizzard applied a similar "unspecified fantasy" style to W3 and expanded it in WoW. And whether it works for wow is a matter for a different dispute.
The question for now is - does it really, really, really work for Diablo universe? IMHO no - this detracts from the atmosphere. Because carefully chosen realistic inspirations for architecture in both previous Diablo games provided a good setting in which the deamonic element could really, really shine.
But I can understand that some people don't feel this change - I can accept that some care about the gameplay, the loot, the fun of killing hordes of monsters.
Can you accept that other people care about the design, the style of the graphics and the visible change?
20 minutes of the gameplay video showed me one thing - the tombs under a supposedly gothic cathedra look like Moria mixed with a Tower of a Random Fantasy Sorceror. That might be verry cool, but in a Random Fantasy Land. That's why at this moment I don't need to see more to feel worried. Especially when I see all the cool and unique artwork that is not translated into game gfx.
I don't hate this game, I don't hate Blizzard - on the contrary, I belive that they are some of the most creative people in the industry. I just think that in this case their visual creativity took a day off, or rather it went the wrong way.
Does this really make me and people with similar views as stupid as the "Blizzard can't do no wrong" supporters are often saying?
I think the reason that people are shitting themselves over thinking Diablo 3 has borrowed from WoW is because that was once of the concerns before the game was announced.
So once the game was announced, they immediately tried to compare D3 to WoW, and the smallest similarity sent off red flags in the puny minds, and now they're running around crying foul.
I considered it an uninhibited possibility, yet I never thought it more probable than an updated style or fresh style. I was utterly shocked when I saw the in-game graphics. 'Trying to compare' had nothing to do with it.

And let D2 rest in HELL. hahahah
nice post tho. I'm glad you are seeing the real thing here and you've stop being a whine baby and realized that diablo 3 graphics are good and that blizzard will only make them better with or without any kind of stupid whining petition.

Diablo 3 is graphically and artistically great, there needs to be variety in the game, instead of only plain and dark areas!
+Wouldn't it be better and more interesting if from a sunny beautiful day, mist starts covering the screen, rain starts falling, thunders and lightning striking and it starts to darken, instead of constant dark!?

wtf, thats what the thread starter was talking about, your rude tone is a shame to diablofans.com
Just thought I would post to admit that this whole petition fiasco is rather embarassing... while I was astonished by the number of people that held the same opinion as me, I didn't outright advocate an e-riot and hatemail as this petition seems to be. So I apologize for posting.
