I think that this will all most likely see itself incorporated in an expansion, as i've said before they've been subtle in hiting at multiple expansions.
Actually, cannons would be on castles before they would be on boats...
Or city walls...
True. Initial point still stands- larger, mounted cannons would probably exist first.
Also, what about explosive javalins?
You'd think explosive javelins would be easier to make than explosive arrows. I mean they're bigger and thus a haphazard explosive powder or mechanism rigged to it should be easier to assemble than on a bunch of reasonably smaller, lighter, and more fragile arrows. Or bolts. (My point being it would make more sense if they had exploding javelins in Diablo II and added exploding arrows in Diablo III. Dunno, just a thought.)
But then you have to wonder Blizzards original intentions with explosive arrows and bolts in Diablo II. It always required mana to use the skill to do it- so it could well just be magic. But there were items with had it as a mod- the Shakuku Bow comes to mind, or however you spell it. Hm...
If they have guns, than they have to have dwarves.... but then it becomes more like a certain other blizzard game
Um... When did Dwarves become synonymous with guns? The only race in Sanctuary is humanity (and arguably Sabre Cats and perhaps Fetish, but they are usually described as being animalesque, especially after the demonic influence spread.)
You cant tell me rockets would ruin the atmosphere if they looked like spells, it isn't too far removed from sin traps. Plus some sparkly trail effects and poofy explosions. Rockets have been around for a long, long time. If there was an asian themed class I would love if they had rocket skills. Like:

Your fist powder skills would be a simple grenade type weapon and a rocket that catches monsters on fire, second would be an explosive rocket and a very destructive land mine used for tricking monsters into a violent death. Third would be a scatter rocket mortar type thing and a poison bomb with explosion. Fourth would be a BIG rocket and a frag grenade that deals physical damage and fire damage.<<<Speculation

Can you introduce me to the goddamned gnome dwarf whatever in real life that made guns in real life?
Don't make me add your name with Shelled...

They should have one unique wand that is actually a gun, it would be called the boomstick.
That makes no sense.
Anyway, back on topic, the reason I bring up the javalins is that javalins are a precurser to hand cannons. It only makes sense that if bows or crossbows have explosive qualities then javalins already had them, thus pushing us closer and closer to the possibility of a siege cannon, which would be another step closer to the idea of a hand cannon. I do believe though that when we reach the hand cannons, I believe that after that game, so that it doesn't get too modern, Blizzard will move to prequils.
This.Is.NOT.WoW! Seeing a cow running around with a Deathlaser Mach-3 gun and gnome CPR kit was bad enough (and subsequently helped me quit wow entirely..). Guns as a weapon was definitely a comic relief element of wow..i dun need comic relief in diablo..
A new ranged-type weapon would be nice tho, i'd go for whips rather.

No, there will never, ever be Dwarves.
Fuck you, I'm a dragon.
Um... This isn't Halo 3?
Why do guns have to = dwarves? We have guns in real life... did the magical race of underground dwarves that I have never seen invent them?
Fuck you, I'm a dragon.
Fuck you, I'm a dragon.
Just in case i'll put this out there:
Why was it that wands and staves with their own unique attacks, aswell as staff recharging (mostly) disappeared in Diablo 2?
Fuck you, I'm a dragon.
and rockets as a disposable item.
Fuck you, I'm a dragon.
