The exploding potions, frankly, were pretty magical and pretty common. Guns, on the other hand... I don't see anything Asian about them, Europeans also had them, and they are also a new type of weapon. Instant ranged. Who's going to be the one using it? How will skills affect it? Will there be a charcter specialized in gun weapons?
Nah. I don't think guns suit the style of Diablo. Even though it is a fictional world with demons and magical items, it's still a "medieval" sort of setting. Therefore guns wouldn't fit. It would also be too reminiscent of Warcraft, which isn't a good thing.

Guns are medieval. The 100 years war was the first european war to see Cannons being used on a large scale. That war started less than 100 years after the time in which Sanctuary takes place in.
I believe that with such advanced in magic in the Diablo universe, it sort of rules out advanced technology, eg: guns. The same way that in our real world we have advanced technology, but magic not so much (debatable). For further reference watch all of Full Metal Alchemist.
I'm not entirely opposed to the notion of guns in D3, though I don't know if Blizzard would be able to pull it off well and still keep the balance. It's not like they'd throw in a AK-47 or Barret .50 cal, if anything the most advanced gun would be something like a blunderbuss.

That's true that Magic could have an influence, but Magic is contained to religious orders. Not everyone just suddenly has magic. Lots of people don't possess the ability.
Edit: That's actually a point I should put in my OP, I forgot entirely about magic influence.

Uhh I don't think Sorceress's magic was religiously influenced was it?
I'd assume that Amazons were taught by masters.
I don't know about Druids and Necros though, how do you even define those.
I mean the original humans had powers and were formidable, Part Angel and Demon. The Nephalem are weakened over each generation, thus magical traits probably rare and specific, those two groups are different in nature, I guess you could say the same. Maybe they are both taught in much the same way that Amazons are, but the Sorceress is a born magic user. I just don't see magic influencing the general scheme of things like it did in Warcraft, it certainly doesn't show a whole lot.
I need to read up more man, i'm not 100% sure, if i'm wrong please politely tell me so.

I don't know if you're wrong or not, it just doesn't seem magic is religious oriented.

Key word is on a large scale. They were used before that as well, and you would expect any hand cannons

Please note that there is a difference between guns and cannons. Guns that could actually hit something are relatively recent. Cannons are artillery.
Artillery cannons are artillery. Hand cannons are not.
This is a hand cannon:

As you can tell, there is a difference between hand cannons and artillery cannons.

If they can balance bows and swords with magic then they can put small arms weaponry in as well. Shoot, all they have to do is change the model of a bow and it would be just like a handcannon being implimented.

And necros/druids/amazons?
Druidry is a religion... Necromancers follow Rathma... Amazons...are foggy in my mind...
(Granted Druidry in Diablo 2 is nothing like real life Druidry...)
I don't know if you're wrong or not, it just doesn't seem magic is religious oriented.
Yeah I shouldn't have said that, I should say that it's more focused and organized, more contained. Think Jedi when I say this, but not a religion, a general will to teach people and represent a focused and collective aim. Much like a religion but not really.
But even suggesting it's religous isn't entirely ingrounded, the various groups are associated with religions or nations, they have a belief in something, like lore, ancestors or the truth of the matter, the Sin Wars. Just no praying and no god.
Because adding "guns" into D3 would imediately make is a first / third person shooter with action RPG elements instead of an isometric action rpg...yeah...right...
Wait! Crossbows would make it a first/third person shooter too!
Wait a second...
