Rushing shouldn't be necessary. They've stated that players don't need to participate in the main storyline if they don't want to.
I am, however, on that same level. I'm really sick of people getting 80+ levels in a single day. If they added more quests (right now they say they have a ton of random ones, which sounds cool) then we won't need leveling games like Baal runs and the lot.
And my god I hope there is nothing like the chaos runs that completely ruined the concept of leveling.
They should make seperate servers for people who want to cheat the system and level instantly/go through the level quickly and those who want to experience the game and do it the way it was meant to be played, so we don't have all of those level 99 perfect-stat characters interloping on our gaming experiences.
I never liked how people did runs and rushed through D2/LOD. It cheapened the game and made it seem like a chore. It made me think, "what's the point?". Plus it looked like no one was having fun, they just "had to do it" to power level, and for what? To keep leveling?
And similarly, power-leveling was just wrong. Why not go through each cave and area with buddies and really level up the real way? Not cheat and get help so you can leach.
To rectify this, blizz needs to introduce better quests, more quests, char specific quests (as they are), and randomized quests.
I have faith in them that they don't want their game cheapened and routinized like D2.
Comments?
I mostly agree. This is one of the few aspects of D2 that I disliked...
I think it's fine if there's a way to speed it up a little your third time around, and I believe that way is just natural by having better gear passed down from your higher character.
Rushing in D2 was out of control. I don't believe you should be able to basically beat the entire game in an hour.
Like we said, quests and a heavy emphasis on coop adventuring should solve the problem. If the coop is fun enough to play with your friends, you'll want to do it over and over again because the experience is just so memorable, especially with your buddies all contributing their skills and stats towards fighting evil!
Why not just lower the level difference allowed to 10? That way you can still do runs in the higher levels if you want but you have to be a little more involved in the lower levels
Once again must I say my whole idea of how this works...
There are many issues that lead to rushing and farming
1. teleport
2. waypoint next to boss
3. boss can be killed repeatedly and are easy to kill
4. games can be exited and created in seconds
Solutions
1. no teleport
AND
A. Waypoints can still be near a boss, but in order to find the boss, each act should have some sort of puzzle kinda like duriel's with the 7 tombs
(no thanks to mh that didnt work either, still a deterant though)
OR
B. No waypoints next to bosses
OR
C. Bosses can only be killed once
....option C is the worst, and I like the idea of IF YOU WANT TO KILL A BOSS AGAIN TO FARM IT, YOU HAVE TO COMPLETE THE PUZZLE OR WHATEVER TIME CONSUMING THING IS UP AHEAD.
Oh and by the way, rushing is because of
1. Teleport
2. Few quests required to excel in acts
3. no level requirements to pass acts (well yes arreat summit but theres always bug rush)
SOLUTIONS
1. NO FUCKING TELEPORT
2. each storyline quest is required in order to go on to the next storyline quest
3. if like diablo2 with 6 quests per act, a minimum of 3 must be completed including boss Q
4. level limit, within x levels bullshit...idk
After playing through the game 40 times or so...I don't want to be forced through the content that i've seen over and over again. For me, like many others, the lasting appeal of the game lies in achieving next to perfect equipment for your character, getting to very high levels, and competitive PvP. I want to be able to do these things fairly quickly, without the bore of going through each and every quest over and over again.
If they do make the game non-rushable, they would HAVE to add a respec feature...which I really don't care much for. The reason why D2's system worked without the need of respecs is because we had the OPTION to be rushed, if we so desired.
You can still play through the quests and storyline normally if you want. I would like to retain the option to skip through it if I have played through the game so many times.
They should eliminate respawn, raise item percentages, make it possible to reach level 100 by playing Normal, Nightmare, and Hell as long as every single monster is killed. Otherwise, the game WILL turn into runs because it's much easier to run and farm in an area where everyone dies from a couple hits or kill the same boss over and over again than go on to the next area where monsters are much harder.
In other words, accept runs. They are going to stay. The moment Blizzard invented the idea of monster respawn they said "you have to do runs".
Yeah that's true, but that doesn't mean that every run we do should be done by a hammer bot, or by someone with godly gear who will do the run in less than 2 minutes not even letting you the time to enter the game.
Also they could add more variety, we should have more choices than Baal/Chaos run.
Runs should still exist, but mass teleport (ala nigma and sorcs) and MH should not be possible. Runs should still be a slight challenge. It shouldn't be possible to get to the core of the run in less than 15 seconds without some type of obstacle.
That way you don't have to make and rush a billion characters just to try out different builds.
Everybody could still be unique - as long as respeccing was hard to do. You could still have multiple characters of the same class that have different builds and items and look. But I think respeccing would be a good thing.
But I think making the game more fun and engaging/strategic will already reduce the amount of rushing.

Ranger - Ranged Weapon Mastery (fire a bow or javelins like a machine gun!), Traps (MK style!), Pets (lions, tigers, and bears oh my!) - physical damage based
Demonologist - Bone Spells (Necro style!), Avatar (shapeshift into a demon!), Furies (evil spirits that hang around you, giving party bonuses) - mix of physical damage and magic
LEAP ATTACK!!!!! PLAGUE OF TOADS!!!!!
SLOW TIME!!!!!
Im sorry, but i think the runs were what sorta made the game more fun for people who already had higher level characters and wanted to get past the lower difficulties... Once you get rushed and get good enough, that's when you would begin doing the rushing, it was just one of the fun options people had in D2, and there were ups and downs for it, at your choice. This "rushing" is used in many games like it, but it was especially fun in D2. Yes i love having low level parties that could run through things together, and you have that option if you choose, rushing is just another one of those options. Many many many people participated in rushing one way or the other, and if you somehow block this from happening i think it would take away from the fun of the game. That's my opinion on the matter.
I liked that you could get a high level to kill the bosses for you and power you through... You still had to get the experience yourself as even at level 20, normal baal runs didn't give jack...
I would just hate to have to march every single one of my characters I start step by step through all the acts/quests etc.... it would ruin the re playability of the game

Agree with the OP. Last month started D2 up again and was able to hit lvl 80 in 1 day by getting rushed to baal room etc.
Thats your choice though... Is tarted a Sin about 3 weeks ago and am only 60 atm, I did get rushed through norm too...
Due to being forced to go back to level for the parts I skipped it still takes a while, I just don't want it to take a month per character... then it becomes a time sink like WoW...

yeah for sure I don't understand, the bad part about d3 being released so late is that everyone is heavily influenced by wow
they are forgetting the point of diablo is not diabloworldofwarcraft3 please if you do not enjoy the game don't play it..
as for my opinion I believe its a little like this..
If you do not agree with rushing, then don't do it... You are not forced to pay some one to rush you...
as for the more questing thing, as far as im concerned right now I hope they do not stray off the path of how d2 questiing was because when I played wow the questing was the biggest waste of time collect four crystals and return to the other side of the world then run back and do it again it was repetative and foolish
I definately agree with this. I hope the game doesn't become all rushing and power leveling. It's so much fun just questing with friends... I want it to be a GREAT achievment to reach level 80... and the end of the game.
The bottom line is I hope for a challenging experience that demands cooperative play while at the same time being immensly rewarding with exciting new skills and equipment. I also believe Gold, as opposed to sojs/runes, should become the currency of D3
I think the problem with D2/LOD was the out of control hacking and botting. It came to a point where nobody quested anymore and strategic PvM gameplay was nearly non existant and reserved only for fast Baal/Cow runs etc.. I believe if Blizzard can put a stop hacking, duping and botting and keep regular game play challenging I think we'll be in for a very rewarding experience.
I also think a PvP arena system would be very cool and to have features like betting and level range specific sections... like level 20-25 arena... level 80-90 arena... etc
The way I see it, the only possible alternative to remove runs/rushing is to make the probability of item drops the SAME FOR EVERY MONSTER.
In other words, runs/rushing will probably stay in the game. Unless, of course, someone has a really great idea that nobody has thought of yet.
There is really no other way. If you have a boss, and that boss drops better items, everyone wil want to kill that boss. The same for common enemies (pindleskin comes to mind). Only if EVERY MONSTER had the same drop rate the runs/rushes would stop. This way, people would just start adventuring, killing monsters as they come.
Now, I don't know if this is a good idea, because finding rare and good items would become REALLY hard. Maybe, then, magic find would become much more important than it is in diablo 2.
