Ugh 2010. Might as well forget about it till then.
At least we have a lot of games to play and other things to do till then.
Honestly I would rather have blizzard just "announce" D3 and not show us anything, because now we're going to go crazy analyzing little pics and clips for 2 and a half years.
I hope so cuz I'm shipping to the Navy and I want to play before I leave. Plus it looks as thought they are far along for a seasonal release.
I want it to come out sooner too, b'cuz I'm starting college soon, and after like 2 or 3 years I'll probably won't give a **** about Diablo:( I'll have much more important and real priorities in life by then. So I hope it just comes out sooner.

I know what you mean by D3 taking so long, but college/real life isnt mutually exclusive with D3.
Gaming is just like any other type of entertainment: movies, sports, hanging out with friends, TV, traveling, etc.

You just gotta balance it all.
Ya, but if its taking like 3 or 2 years to release.. You'd probably have a different appeal in games, and you'll forget about D3. And you'll grow 3 years older
I thought it'd be out by the end of this year, but this Q&A seems to put it a tad further out than that:
1UP: Can you talk about any specific Battle.net changes that will be made for Diablo III?
RP: Battle.net is in constant evolution; for each game we really add a lot of features to Battle.net. And right now we're really focusing on the Battle.net features for StarCraft II. But we definitely have been keeping Diablo III in mind also. I think probably sometimes towards the end of the year, we're going to really start talking about the new Battle.net features as they pertain to StarCraft 2, and a lot of those features will carry over to Diablo III.
And:
1UP: I know the team has been working on this, and the Blizzard statement is that it'll be released "when it's ready." Can you at least measure Diablo III's development cycle as compared to other titles being concurrently developed at Blizzard?
RP: The development cycle will be more like StarCraft 2. Wrath of the Lich King is an expansion set to a game that's very established in technology, pipeline, team, and everything else. Diablo III is a full-blown new product for us so it will be similar to StarCraft 2.
Im not sure Blizzard will be that concerned about SC2 and D3 release dates... they might not want to release at exactly the same time, sure... but both games already have such a large fan base that I do not see how it would likely affect sales.
Added to the fact that Blizzard games tend to sell well for years after their release.
Or are you suggesting they are going to slow down development of D3 on purpose just so it doesn't clash ... I doubt it.
Yeah it just seems so wrong to deliberately slow down development for this reason.
Starcraft 2 will definately be released before D3 - a lot more goes into a game like Diablo compared to an RTS like Starcraft imo.
No game company would ever release 2 games at the same time or near the same time. It's just stupid. It stretches everyone too thin. (unless it's an Orange Box-type deal)
Starcraft takes alot more work. Mostly due to balancing. sc2 will be released earlier due to the fact that they already had an engine to work on, and didnt start from absolute NULL. so dev time for the two games imo comes 2 be about the same, with d3 taking a little bit longer, so imo sc2 will be released earlier on.
Balancing definately takes a long time but the environments/art design is a lot easier to do. Don't forget that Diablo takes a lot of balancing as well.

No where near as much as a strategy game though.... Multiple factions with multiple units and buildings....
Scaling mobs linearly for an RPG isn't the hardest... its more keeping the skills/items in check.

"If we're actually making the game worse with no other reason than to be different from WoW, then it's a bad choice." - Jay Wilson (D3 lead designer)
As most of you are saying i agree with the fact that it might take at least a year or so D: sad sad, but they have alot to work with, i was reading the journal and it said that there were more then 4 acts D: correct me if i am wrong ?
well I just hope that its sooner then later. will also put up with the teasing release of gameplay shots and whatever else until I can get my hands on a copy.
And then of course there's June 29th 2009.
2009 makes Diablo it's 12 birthday. 1 + 2 = 3, Diablo 3.
D2 and LOD both released on June 29th, and D3 premiered on June 28th.
If not June then surely 2009 for birthdays sake.
i went into my GAME store today, and there was a hUGE que outside it of about 100 ppl ...! i asked teh guy inside what the new hot release was, and he said: vivendi sent us 500 diablo II's + xpansions and these ppl are waiting to buy them
he then mentioned they were taking preorders in oct 08 to gaurentee a copy by xmas 08.
and those are the release dates confirmed by blizzard, so lets see if they pospone
Don't lie. Blizzard haven't said anything about a release date.
