Jay Wilson: "I can’t really talk about Battle.net but I will say, Battle.net will not be a background. It’ll be huge, the next version will be absolutely Blizzard’s focus. Everyone is going to be thrilled when they see the kind of stuff we have planned! It feeds into our overall focus of providing a really great service for our players."
With Battle.net being redone it wouldn't surprise me to see some sort of membership fee. Perhaps not just for D3 but maybe a community service system for all their big IP's. With or without it'll be nice to see it redone. The original creators of it are the founders of ArenaNet and Guild Wars. Its been virtually untouched since its creation.
What are some features you all would like to see? An improved Steam type deal? Voice chat? Thoughts and concerns?

ArenaNet created Guildwars which is a FREE to play game.
Battle.net will be free, and there is no reason to suspect that for the past 10 years that Blizzard will ultimately change from a price plan of free for something that cost money. If that were the case I doubt they would still call it Battle.net
You missed the point. I'm not advocating it be a pay-to-use service. I simply said it wouldn't surprise me if it were. The point was to kick off a discussion concerning what would be some nice features of a redone Battle.net. My apologies though for mentioning that as I know its a touchy topic for most.

I didn't mean that in a hostile way, sorry. Just mentioning a few reason for why I am 99% sure that Battle.net will remain a free service.
I think they had already mentioned about adding in a voice chat feature, but if anything I would end up using Vent anyways.
I would love to see Battle.net pick up some features that Steam has, so then I can have all my Blizzard games digitally accessible from any machine. Keeping up with discs and cd-keys can be annoying at times and having them right there could be very handy!
I also wouldn't mind them having a sort of Premium Service option that grants access to higher quality (lower ping, more secure) servers for certain games (probably just games that release after the battle.net upgrade, maybe starting with StarCraft 2).
Battle.net (and Battle.net 2.0) is free of charge, (some) games have fees.
Pretty sure that is the format as it currently stands.
Battle.net 2.0 i belive has better or improved, and in all likelihood more, features than 1.0. Something you would expect when going from 1.0 to 2.0.
They will probably keep the old severs/realms running for a while yet, but new games will be on 2.0 so there is no interference from 1.0 users lagging things up.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.

NO! I don't want battle.net to be another steam COPY! Lol
Since D3 will be on battle.net, does that mean it's going to have the same multiplayer structure as D2 fundamentally, with game creation, chat lobby and all that?
