Yes Re-spec is a poor feature targeted at unskilled/noob players. How can you have a Ladder or a scale of skill in players with respec, imo respec available to hardcore players only and only go back about say 2 skills back.
oh yeah on another topic shouldnt hardcore players be rewarded in some way ?!?!?!?!
Have you ever played Titan Quest? Do you think Respecs will be like they are in Pluggy where all you need to do is click that little X.
Even if it is implemented you have NO idea how it will be handled, hell you don't even know if it's going to be included. You guys are all complaining about something that doesnt even exist yet! Couldn't you wait until you see what they do until you start bitching?
I say we start complaining about the 3 classes they havn't released yet.
yes it is...some people have a different style (frozen orb or blizzard in a cold sorc)...some people are stupid and think frost nova is good...some people put points into everythign to be (diverse and cool) and that is not what a smart and strategic player does. how do skills not play a big role in skill? that makes absolutely NO sense.

If you use common sense you can't skill to where you can't play.
Someone with decent skill allocation can do the same thing as someone with a perfect build.
The one with perfect can do it more effeciently but still... What's the big deal?

Player skills revolves around knowing where to go, when to run, when to spam potions, things like that.
If you use common sense when choosing skills then you won't have problems. Still if I put a few points into something and decide I don't like it at level 80, I don't want to have to remake my character to change 2 skill points...
you just said the big deal...i cant believe you dont see it. EVERY POINT MATTERS...thats why items that give to skill points are such a big deal and sell for so much. skills are a HUGE part of the game, and for everyone to be the same is very boring and easy to play.

With or without respecs everyone ends up the same almost. I can't count how many hammerdins, whirlwind barbs, frozen orb sorcs, I saw.
It's not like there is a armory for Diablo where someone can see how you placed every skill...
they shouldn't even have a respec option (maybe a tiny one in a quest), they should have a skill test hall that you could go to before you put points into it...would that make people happy? that would actually be cool...i would like that.

Something, because in the beginning it will be chaos figuring out which skills are worth it.
thats part of the fun...who cares if the game is so fun youll want to play it over and over again...just like d2...well im out..i need to rest myself so i dont get to stressed out over this : P...nice arguing with you lol.

I agree it's fun to an extent but I don't want to have to make a character 6 times to get skills I like.
I still don't get it. I could build pretty much any class with any skills (using a little common sense) and still be able to kill things.
I don't see how it makes anything unbalanced. It's only unbalanced in PvP if people are allowed to respec to their hearts content.
Ok, let me first say that I'm mostly neutral about it(I like the idea respec to be used to balance the economy). I just want you to understand this perspective.
If there is unlimited respec, there is no negative effect to placing a skill point. That changes the economic value of a skill point. It makes each skill point more valuable, and each skill less valuable. It also changes the importance of placing a skill point. If you know its permanent, Then there is a certain importance to every, single, point you place(especially the first time through the game).
I have a small economics background(it was going to be my minor before I dropped out to work on music). So my perspective on this(and everything), relates to that.
I'm not saying respecing is bad, I'm just saying it ultimate has a huge effect on gameplay.

I understand now kind of. I think it should be limited to some extent, but I just know I've accidentally put into a skill without thinking and I can only imagine accidentally doing that on a higher level character and getting extremely irritated.

I like it as a way to tweak the basics of your character, and to tie into the economy. But I don't like it as a way to completely rebuild your character.
That is, of course, except for PvP. Where unlimited respect seems like it would be a must, at least for competitive play.

exactly, should be useable to tweak a character but not overhaul, we still have reason to reroll, but dont need to get pissed if we misplaced a couple points
as for respecing i like it, but it needs to be hella expensive...like only the top flight accounts can afford it. i like that someone can change builds for pvp if need be, but ive played other private server mmos with it and after a while someone finds a super-build and there will be mass reproduction of that build. but seeing as this is blizzard, known for balance, the sun seems to be rising
Since gold hasn't really played a roll in diablo before (tho it might in the next game) the only real thing i can see for respec cost would be maybe sacrificing powerful runes (the higher the level the more powerful ruins to be sacrificed) or possibly losing levels for respecing. Maybe some type of rare tomb that has a one time use or i suppose sacrificing gear for it.

That's what I've been wanting all along. A way for mistakes to be corrected but not for people to just respec anytime they see fit.

It doesn't show skill or lack of skill to respec, it shows boredom or people making mistakes.
Wow... if you guys think PLAYER skill directly translates into what skills your character has then... <shakes head> I don't even know what to say.
In PvP it's somewhat true, but in overall gameplay, it really isn't.
If you use common sense you can't skill to where you can't play.

I can handle not having a perfect build but...
Cya.
