you are blinded in some way if you see something similiar in these screenshots
Lighting, smooth textures, character design, etc.
You're delusional if you don't see any similarities between the screenshots. This is fucking Diablo god damnit!!!! Diablo had NO similarites with any of Blizzard's other games when it came out, same with Diablo 2. The fact that thousands of ppl see the similarities With Diablo 3 and the warcraft series when the preivious 2 games were perfect in style, darkness, horror, uniuqeness, etc. proves that Blizz made a shitty desicion going with this art style.
Blizzard has made visual fuck ups in the past, look at Starcraft ffs, they tried to get away with a Warcraft 2 mod then the fans spoke up.
So please stop acting like Blizzard is perfect in every way when it's a flat out fact when they have made mistakes in the past.
I've been watching this thread since it began. The way I see things, there are obviously two sides: the ones who like and dislike the current looks. The difference is we, the ones who don't like the current graphics, we demonstrate by arguments, while the other group yells at us that we're blind, crybabies et cetera. For a franchise like Diablo. I tought the fans would be just a little bit more mature. I've spent thousands of hours in the first two games so I'm totally into what happens with the third. If this would be the case, I would wait even 4-5 years more for a complete artistic redrawing. The ones of you who really waited nearly 8 years for the sequel surely can wait some more. But some of you are so desperate to get their hands on the game that they just don't care about the details and just want another PERFECT Blizzard game asap. Why should we settle for anything less? If there's any possibility we can make a difference lets yell it out loud and make ourselfs heard. And the pro-current-diablo-art should act more mature and not attack us in such a personal way, rather give arguments. I think D3 is too WoW-like. Not only from the 20 min of gameplay but from Blizzard's actions. They just reveiled a whole new game they're working on, with a full press release, screenshots and videos. They could have waited one or more years until announcing the game, but they were happy with its current state and they tried to explain to us why it looks like this (mood trough colours). Basically they were prepared for these negative feedbacks and while sitting in their conference room preparing for the announcement they tought of how they should justify this. All I'm saying is everyone should chill out, we're not enemies here. Go kill a orc if you're mad on someone.
Come on, you really think that other dungeons would have a different, more Diablo-like look?
Look at D2 caves, dungeons, whatever. You've seen one cave, you've seen them all. Same for dungeons and any other setting. There is one template for each.
Well, that is more by game design and computer requirements in terms of texture memory and cpu resources rather than "it was ment to be like this". Diablo II was a big game in terms of size when it was released, so inevitably they had to reuse the same meshes for the dungeons, thus seeing one cave and you have seen them all except for the layout difference.
The more enemies, sprites (like flames) and complex meshes you'd see, the more fps lag you would get, so to keep it down you instance common objects (walls, gates etc.) so your RAM can hold the same object in memory, and you turn on a fog of war so the game doesn't render what you do not see.
I still remember that many parts of Radament's Lair was a light sand-ish dungeon, The Arcane Sanctuary was pretty light (except for the gray floor texture used), Terror's End was lighted up with red lava and Lam Esen's Tome was a mix of dark and light. The only reason most of them are dark as because of dark stone textures.
i do care for graphics...but the look of the game is much more than just graphics...
the graphics at the moment are amazing...the way that the water looks when the barbarian walks trhough it, the lighting in the outdoors area, etc etc.
what i want is for the characters to look more like a human, less like a cartoon. i want the waepons and armours to look like something you would really use to hack off demons heads/defend yourself from demons, and not an overly large cinder block breastplate or enourmous hammer or something like that
different artists make different game, blizzard should keep these wow-artists a sight from our diablo.
look these ugly armor above and the donkey foots gril.
the art style of Diablo should be realistic instead of these big plate armors!
in diablo2..my favorite is..picking up the armor, wear it and enjoy because those armors looks are deadly real."

Way to spin history with your lies and fabrications.
Starcraft is built upon the Warcraft 2 engine, and it was whiteboxed (go look up the term if you don't understand it) using placeholder graphics in Warcraft 2. Not many fans spoke up because there weren't any message boards or Battle.net at the time for that to even happen. They were never intended to be in the final game.
Starcraft was without any fans because it was a brand new game and a brand new franchise and Command & Conquer was already the biggest thing at the time so there were no rabid fans for them to piss off.

Exactly my thoughts, most ppl saying it's fine are most like scared and think that switching art styles would delay the game 5 years. I would gladly give them all the time they need if it meant bringing the old style back.
I know I wouldn't be happy if Blizzard made an enormous CD patch for 1.13 and called that Diablo 3. There has to be some change in graphics and gameplay, because if there wasn't what's the point of calling it D3? Would you rather there be another D2 expansion pack instead of D3? I doubt it. Nevertheless, I'm not content with the cartoonish textures of D3 but I can live with it if they at least change the brightness. Of course I'd rather the whole thing look more similar to D2.
I guess this is how people want Radament to look like in Diablo 3
that would be sweet.

So why don't you just go and play The Witcher? It's obviously a good game. I enjoy it.
But it's not Diablo 3, nor would I want Diablo 3 to look like it.
Ultra is not saying the Witcher is a better game than Diablo 3.
He's saying the graphics in Witcher are better.
And don't start about how "if D3 has good graphics then gameplay will suck"

I'm not so sure that people are taking notice of the fact that the witcher is a very hardware intensive game. Blizzard isn't aiming for a hardware intensive game.
Ultra is not saying the Witcher is a better game than Diablo 3.

I totally disagree. The graphics in the Witcher are not better than Diablo 3's. They lack the stylistic touches and hand-crafted artwork that we see in Diablo 3.
This is NOT a matter of "D3 having good graphics therefore gameplay will suck". That's not what I said. I don't believe that having realistic graphics makes the art direction good in any way. There are countless games with realistic or 'good' graphics that I feel do not compare with the stylish art of games like Diablo 3.
Maybe you like having models with photographs pasted onto them.
I don't mind the art direction as it is, but I do think it could be a bit more sinister. Either way, I trust Blizzard enough to believe they won't screw it up. They've given us so many flawless (debatably) games, I think more people ought to trust them more.

They should make Diablo 3 look like Sacred 2.

Yeah, you wish Diablo 3 looked that way, don't you?

A darker and more horrific universe is required, especially to separate the game from the other "E for Everyone" games Blizzard is developing.
I do not mind however the more action-oriented and diverse gameplay, as Blizzard (as always) seems to have game mechanics down pat.
