Is WoW cartoony? Yes
Did WoW sell tons of copys? Yes
I hate WoW, but you have to think as if you were Blizzard. You would want a game that is a huge seller. You want millions playing. Some will say that many will not play because its not very dark, but think about the money. I support the idea of making diablo 3 darker, more blood, and better textures. They want the game to look cartoony so people that play WoW will buy it.
As for the "Everyone no matter what PC should play", this is 2008, most people should have a medium power computer to run diablo 3 with better textures.
ANY 3D rendering of characters will be bitched about for being 'Wowish'. I've looked at that barbarian photo several times now, and I've come to the conclusion that there's nothing wrong with it. The reason it looks 'Wowish' is because it's in ... um ... 3D you idiots. You see, in 3D, things have this cool thing called 'depth'. 'omfg oversized should pads'. Hello, what do you want them to be, flat? It's made from meatl and is there for protection, of course it's going to be big.
Some of our fans would be more content with flat 2D, at least then they wouldn't have 'wowish' to complain about. Of course, then, they'd just bitch about it not utilizing modern equipment 'omg y is it 2d!?1?!"
The only thing the things in this game needs is more detail, and better textures.
I have seen quite a few dozens of games that are very 3-D, and look absolutely nothing like Warcraft. Unreal, Halo, Hellgate london, The Witcher, Neverwinter Nights, Devil may cry, Final Fantasy, and so on. There are quite a few verieties of 3-D, that do not look like Wow.
The color I don't mind as the world isn't dark. But, being a game rated mature and requires scaling the steps of hell and destroying an army of undead and demons I want it to be real looking. I don't mind the cartoonishness of the Warcraft franchise and I don't mind the direction they took Starcraft 2 but this is Diablo dammit. I want him to look so real that I'll have nightmares about him.
I showed my sister's boyfriend the Diablo 2 cinematics and his first response was "What year did you say this was?!" Being 2000 graphics they still look fantastic and as real as they could. I want to keep that. I don't want to feel like I'm playing Diablo 1 again. I want to KNOW it's Diablo 3 and feel like I am actually in the dungeon myself. I'll mostly be playing this game at my friends house on a 42 inch flatscreen with surround sound(We have already planned this out) and I want to feel like I'm the one hitting the goatman and throwing the fireball not like I'm watching old reruns of the freakin thundercats.

Oblivion also fits there, its a great rpg that doesnt look like WoW.
While I agree it should be a a bit darker as its fits well with the themes in Diablo and to be similar to the previous titles I think its important we dn't over act.
Alost of these Good/Bad, How its looks/How it should look, take it a bit too far I think. Darker yes, pitch black no.

heres a pic of Hellgate london...even in a futuristic setting its more gothic looking then Diablo 3.
The new barbarian doesn't look like 'Barbarian". He is older than olders and his beard shows him like a dwarf !
look it, they give you the same feeling, an old, good man, he is not like killing... He is not a psycho like old "Barbarian"... He is a patriot maybe only..
He is a dwarf from fantasy books, and.. The impression and feelin is same.. When i choose this patriot dad, i will not want to kill monsters a lot.. He has not a crazy feeling
I don't understand why everyone wants it to be so dark. The sun comes out sometimes. Hell should be brighter than anything to be honest. There's fire freakin EVERYWHERE.
Check the system requirements for that game, idiot.
And Mijin, you're right for the most part. The only characters that have those shoulders in D2 is the Druid, almost all the time, and the Barbarian when wearing medium-ish armor, like the one with that guard in the front, like the one samurais wear.
I voted needs more work, not entirely because of the cartoon style, it just needs to be less, uh, smooth i suppose, diablo is by nature a darker toned game, the characters should as well as the monsters represent that, make the colors have an edge to them, a tinge that shows that the world has been afflicted by this plague of demons like it has been, its simply to sun shiny happy for whats actually going on
Voted "needs work", but it is too cartoony (More stylisation that attempted realism, Blocky handrails, absurd shoulder pads, smiling lion statue, a rainbow- THIS IS DIABLO! NO RAINBOW! NEVER!, curled and stylised foliage design..) and too Lord of The Rings influenced. The inside of the cathedral/dungeon is airey and elevated, with sparce objects and huge walkways. It also looks completely uninhabited. What happened to the cramped, blood-stained and flaming pentagramm'd dungeons of the series?
Enemies have also fallen into the trap of all rpg games of late- they're almost all grey-blue undead, with the exception of comical, obese zombies that release terribly animated, fixed group formation floating land eels (Same designer who made the rainbow?); the charging beasts (which I quite liked); the thousand pound cartoon zombie and the end boss.
More fire and blood!
Less middle earth, more middle-ages-europe!
Honestly it feels like Blizzard wanted to force in every single color they had on their palette to each texture. Another thing, it looks as if it is really polished, smoothed/ watered down, call it what you will, which makes me feel like I am playing a cartoon game. Some things were great however like the rainbow. Rainbows will always be rainbows no matter how evil the land. Destructible environments etc, all really good things.
right here is instigating. you could have left my post be and not try to attack me now. You know damn well you were not trying to end the argument. You insulted him at least twice in that post alone.
You're perpetuating this even further. How does that cup of hypocrisy taste?

Well the druid does have narrow, feminine shoulders so he would need extra armor there

It's a lot of unnecessary work for me, but hold on.

I was Pointing out that armor in diablo 3 could look darker, better.
