I told myself years ago that I wouldn't bother upgrading my computer until Diablo 3 was released (D2 is about the only PC game I play anymore). I built my PC back in'04, it does everything I need it to just fine.
Looks like I'll need an upgrade for D3. New CPU, new mobo, new RAM, new Video card.
Anyone else going to upgrade for D3?

Just bought a new comp a month ago, so doubtful I'd buy a whole new rig. My motherboard is 3-way SLI compatible, however, and I'm only using a single 8800 GTS 512, so I might buy another one or two of those.
I'm certain that a quad-core machine with a single 8800 GTS 512 can handle D3 at pretty high settings (even if we don't know specifics), so the upgrades wouldn't be so much *for* diablo as for gaming in general.
I got a similar set up to you Alavard. Q6600, 2x 880GT, 4gig ram. I played a bit of AoC and could run that fine on full settings, and since D3 and all Blizzard games for that matter aren't made for the bleeding edge, I think I'll be fine with what I have.
Just looking at the gameplay footage I don't even think you'll need quad core or SLI, it wasn't particularly demanding looking. Course, I'm running a single core AMD Athlon 64 3200+ and an ATI X800 XT PE along with 1 GB of RAM. So yeah...don't think my box will quite cut it.
Wondering in I should wait for Intel's new Nehalmen core processors (which are much faster than the best quad core processors out right now) or just stick to something alot cheaper.

I will be running it on dual core 2.0, nvidia 8600gt vid card, and 4 gigs of ram. Blizz games are never that hard to run so i think it will be just fine.
havok physics is the only thing new, engine is old enough 4 old gpu,
so a dual core could be a must 4 physics.

Upgrade my PC for D3? What? I would SELL my kidney for D3.

The sky shall rain fire, and the seas will become as blood! The righteous shall fall before the wicked, and the lord of creation shall tremble before the burning standards of Hell!"

Blizzard always tries to keep the specs low enough for a lot of people to be able to play their games. I'm thinking I should be fine with my MBP. Geforce 8600m gt..I might just pop in another stick of ram.

No.. I can play Titan Quest with great settings perfectly. I doubt this'll be much more demanding. Titan Quest wasn't that great at optimization, and Blizzard is the king of optimization.
But, if I did need to nothing short of Blizzard game could make me upgrade before I needed to.

Titan Quest had similiar physics (Maybe better, IIRC) yet it only required 1.8 ghz, and, as said above, it wasn't optimized that well (Ignoring the absolutely HORRRRRRRIBLYYYY optimized demo, and pre-patch, shipped game.)
I've been meaning to get a mac for the longest time now for my digital art, this will give me enough reason. But I would like to see how long the wait is. If it is like another year I'd probably have to get a new compy. (SB fans go wild)
Diablo was never a hardware-intensive game.
I would say
- 2.0ghz dual core,
- 2gig of RAM,
- 2-4GB hard drive space
- 256MB Dedicated Video card
That should run to at least minimum spec. I would say it's more important to upgrade to a Killer N1 NIC card for smoother online gameplay, they are putting alot more action on screen at once and those gaming NIC cards can finally have a purpose. They won't make your connection any faster, it just properly distributes the connection information and won't overheat. I would suggest that to be a main upgrade for desktops.
I was planning on getting a new pc at Christmas before the announcement. Now i know i am getting a new pc at Christmas. I expect Diablo III to be more demanding than any of the current hack & slash RPGs (Titan Quest, Loki) but it wont have too high standards for the time its released.
