I think blizzard will do what will please the general population of fans. And I really have faith that they'll do this and keep most people happy.
Keep in mind that the ones who are really pissed about the artistic direction are only a tiny percentage of the overall consumer base. They could literally say "Well, fuck your shit!" and ignore it altogether and not lose that much. But I think they have more up their sleeves, although personally I find very little wrong with the colors or lighting at all.
I don't think the art direction should be changed nor did I sign the petition, but you can't tell me all torches and candles burn white light.
ROFL. You're really grabbing staws here. However, this fails in one certain area - it's not what I was even talking about. I was talking about why the greens are not so strong and concentrated in color by the candles and why the green fades around your character as you walk through the environment.

I'm not grabbing at straws, you tried to tell me that candles and torches and other fire sources dont give off orange light. Depending on the color of the flame, the light is produced.
All that other crap I could care less about its all opinions I don't mind you having a different opinion.

No, I didn't. I said that there is a white light that comes off of any candle or torch no matter what color you put it up next to as long as it's very close to it. Then someone posted a picture of a bonfire...
I replied with the picture of the hand to show that the closest part of the hand was illuminated white (the peach color of that part of the hand has lost it's color, similar to the greens in the dungeon that are up next to candles and flames).
Really, drop it already, you misunderstood me because you didn't care to read what I wrote.
LOL. This is freakin hilarious!

light radius will be back (according to the last interview that confirms they wont change the art direction) but only at certain places/dungeons. Or at least thats the plan. According to what he said they tried to implement it but it wouldnt look that good on a 3D engine.
Irrevelant.Irrevelant.Irrevelant.Irrevelant.Irrevelant.! I SWAER I HAVE IN MY HEAD THE FOR BETTER DIABLOZ THAN DIABLOZ!
I dont get it. Why dont people understand?!
Not really irrelevant when the head of the art direction is literally explaining the decisions behind what you are crying about, as well as explaining that the game does indeed get darker as the game progresses in order to capture to audience more. You guys really jumped the gun by making the petition and seeing hardly any of a game due out years from now. I bet you're a quick one with the ladies as well!
Here we go folks, ANOTHER article of a sit-down with Jay released Today. Let's see what he and the mainstream press of the gaming world think about this!
VIA Destructoid:
Recently, upwards of 50,000 people signed a petition demanding that Diablo III's color palette be darkened. Luckily for us, the fan outcry wasn't enough to make Blizzard reconsider the game's art direction.
Talking to MTV Multiplayer, lead designer Jay Wilson says that "there's no going back now." He comments that Diablo III originally had a darker color scheme, but the team eventually decided against it.
“When you have 30 creatures on screen — and four or five different types — target prioritization is a factor. You need to be able to tell those things apart fast, and you can’t do that when your world is gray and your creatures are gray.”
I'm still trying to get over the fact that people were/are actually fighting to get more blacks, greys, and browns into Diablo III. Do we seriously not have enough games like that already?
I do think it's funny how things change though. What used to be a call for all around darker dungeon, more "GOTH", (LOL) and more "Diablo 2" has turned into n argument over green lamps in the dungeon.
The petition is done. It never mattered. We have not even seen much of the game and as Creepsville said, the petition is being looked at as on the same level as a bad fart joke. I'll trust Blizzard with the game they are making rather than the opinions of the kiddos who have seen 1 early on dungeon. There's no arguing here, no proving someone wrong at this point. It's all opinion.

I'd say: pursue artistic realism for greater immersion as opposed to surreal impossible graphics techniques. The real world is beautiful, there is no need to skew it to obtain great design, and there is no need to make everything unnaturally clear, we players are not blind - leave the element of surprise, curiosity, and the unknown.
I personally can't say much about the shoulder pads because they seem to be both low poly and badly textured so I think they are just underdeveloped at the moment.
I personally can't say much about the shoulder pads because they seem to be both low poly and badly textured so I think they are just underdeveloped at the moment.
Yeah they did say they have a lot of content to work on. Content would include shoulder items etc etc also wouldn't it?
The only problem I really have is the green light, I'm just going to assume there is green chandelier's hanging on the ceiling that we can't see.
We can assume that, but then I'd assume that's low quality lighting, still. It just doesn't look realistic. Or maybe I'm picky. :/ Heretic doesn't support colored lighting. Maybe they'll improve it. Before we do any petitions I'd want to wait for some updates.

Well I know it doesn't look realistic but I'd rather fool myself into believing there is a imaginary source for it than to claw my eyes out trying to think of WHY you would add green lighting without a source.
I NEVER said anything about making the game darker.
Did you actually read my posts? Be honest. Please.
If you did, read them another (few) times.
did you not sign the petition? I thought this thread was referring to the petition. My bad. I like this tid-bit the best-
My current opinions are always more important, i may have changed/improved some of my thoughts.
as it shows that maybe some people are getting across to you. However, there will Always be things that avid gamers wish were done a little better or a little different. Every game I play I point out things like "I wish they had done this one little animation a little better." but that doesn't stop me from enjoying the game. I do think it's funny though that you talk in such a way that these little 'opinions' of yours seem the be the end all in what would make D3 the ultimate game for everybody lol.
here's the way I view this thread. There's this kid who is really creative and is known around town as being this really good story teller. He has a dream one night about a Pegasus that comes to save a village from all these troubles the village is having. However, as soon as everyone huddles around to hear another great story-
story teller: "My dream all started when the pegasus came from the sky and.."
-a fatkid wearing a shirt with the face of the story teller interupts-
fattie: "pegasus? Don't you mean unicorn?"
story teller: "um, no.. it was a pegasus. I know, it's my dream lololol"
fatkid: "well, i think it should be a unicorn. doesnt everyone else?"
audience: "No. shut up, he hasn't even started. you know his stories are aweosme, they never suck, and take a long time to tell.. so shut up already it's not your story lololol"
fatkid: "omg wtf can't you guys see why it would be better as a unicorn?"
story teller: "well, i've only said one sentence, later on there is a point where the pegasus has to fly away, unicrons can't fly"
fatkid: "Well, that's not true, cause i saw an pic on the internet of a unicorn that had wings"
-as the fatkid keeps crying the audience pushes him to the back of the group-
fatkid: "but but, the pegasus is all white! shouldn't the hooves be brown or something......"
audience member: "um, it's his dream"
(in a faint voice) fatkid: "ok! i changed my opinion but it's better now! it's allowed to be a pegasus! .... but it should should should still have a horn!"

Speaking of green, crypts, and lighting: http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/892/witcherfs9.png
Pretty greenish, too.
It isn't really a hack&slash, of course, so DIII can't afford such high quality lighting but can we at least avoid fake stuff...
Should: "You use should when you are saying what would be the right thing to do or the right state for something to be in." from a dictionary.
I dont think i used the wrong word in my posts.
He didn't say you used the wrong word. He said that your argument based on "shoulds" was pointless, as it was based upon your personal preferences. I think the fact that you even brought the dictionary into this and still think you have the right to say "should" over and over shows a huge learning curve on you that makes you impossible to reason with. It's things like this that cause me to give up on your inane posts.
In fact, most of this thread has turned into people with an education in art or film arguing basic art theories and facts against people who are merely arguing their opinions and personal tastes.
No wonder it is getting nowhere.
And don't tell me art is subjective and blah blah blah. There is reasoning behind artists do what they do in their medium and they understand the effect it will have on the viewer. There are facts about art that have been stated here and ignored by people who want to cling to their points.
If Diablo isn't allowed to do more with lighting than it was in previous games then the world of Diablo would not be able to expand from an artistic standpoint. Hence, D3 would not be as fresh and evolved as it's predecessors and people would find it monogamous and they would complain about it. End of story.
And green moss in the background.
Yeah I see no green light in that cave.
Well then. I guess that's awesome.
Over confidence is the rot.

How's this for a green dungeon!
Where's the light source coming from?!?! Where the fuck is it?!?!? I can't play.
This game makes no sense!! It's not realllll!!!
Hahahahaha.
truely awesome and funny lol
oh well we'll see what happens as we wait
