People who don't see the WoW influence, look at the bridges in that first gameplay video; notice how sanded and clean the blocks which form the "ramparts" or sides are? Notice how soft and smooth and sanded the stairs are?
The Barbarian's muscles don't even look like muscles...more like painted on lines to denote muscles.
Ever since WarCraft III Blizzard has been suffering the cartoon AIDS.
Thankfully though, they got smacked upside the head with StarCraft 2. It should serve as an example for Diablo 3.
I didn't quote your cuss word there, but does anybody actually have any before/after pictures of this supposed change in the graphics of Starcraft 2 that the fans reportedly incited?
It's funny people want that OP pic considering the story says it's been 20 years and they havn't been invaded. Do you seriously think the world is that dark after 20 years of no invasion after the worldstone was destroyed?
I'm pretty sure diablo 3 starts out the way they have the game now and ends up getting darker and darker as you progress just like D2...
Seriously Give blizzard a chance to show off later levels lol?
I think when diablo starts coming back that ya the trees arent going to start wilting and the grass might not start dieing yet but inside the biuldings should'nt be so lit up in my opinion. i liked diablo 2 inside tombs and whatnot you cant see everything around you. it was a suprise. you here it before you see it. in the gameplay on here its kinda dark but you can still see everything. its not as suprising... you do have some light radius but you shouldnt be able to see everything coming at you. and ya ill agree on giving blizzard a chance . but then again if that isnt how things were going, if they were planning on making the game like that the whole way through would you not be a bit disappointed. obviously we need to kind of speak out just to make sure they arent going to make the game how we dont want it. if they make the whole game like that we will be mad. if we tell them now that we dont like it they can fix it and we will enjoy the game more :).
That being said i think it should be a bit more stale rather than colorful.. too much color just isn't diablo...

Well, fancier graphics calls for a better computer. Crysis was damn near unplayable at the highest quality setting (although I suppose that's going a bit off topic. Anyways, what with wanting of corpses and blood sprays staying longer as well, we're going to have to expect some compromise. Really, though, I'm drawing from a very limited pool of knowledge, so who knows, maybe they can add fancier muscles and bridges and still have it run smoothly on a mediocre computer.

Interesting. Nice find.
Oh, I thought it was something they had already done in Diablo II and was just asking about it. My experience isn't very varied with this series.

So like, everyone realizes that for a good game, you have to balance graphics and mood with accessibility. Let everyone join in, right?
But the key word here is BALANCE. And I feel like one of the core attractions of Diablo was that diabolical, dark mood. And low-poly characters and monsters don't cut it when trying to express a twisted spike, gruesome face, pile of bones, etc. The visceral impact is LOST.
So what I am saying is that on the balance beam of graphics and accessibility, Blizzard went too far to the right, and are affecting the mood negatively.
I don't know much about benchmarks and all the other tests they performed to get to this point. But IF THEY DID SWITCH VISUAL STYLES, AND THEY DID BENCHMARK THEM, in the interst of honesty and transparency to the community, they should reveal those prior designs, and talk frankly about the tradeoffs they faced.
Because I'm afraid that because the success of WoW, all they want to do is sell WoW2: Dungeons to a few more Korean and Chinese PC bangs.
Options in the poll are too limiting. They need to be changed immediately as this thread has so many replies.
-The graphics need to be changed yes. Not only darker textures as the poll suggests in the pictures we've seen, but everything else as described before. Everyone doesn't have to time to post pictures about how the game should look lke.

I really, really, really, REALLY don't want another throw-away fantasy RPG. There are many RPGs out there that have the current Diablo III style: God of War, Mythos, Baldur's Gate II, etc...
And mostly their fans play those games for a set time, then move on to the next one with lore, and don't really "care" all that much about the franchise.
And that's fine for them.
But I CHALLENGE you to find me another RPG with Diablo II's sinister mood. That Gothic feel. You can easily identify the Diablo universe by its screenshots and the type of art they chose to employ.
If DIII fully goes down this path, it wil be a fun game that people will play, will enjoy...and will leave.
When the series has to continue, who will really treasure the lore and feel of the game? Players will just be off to the latest and greatest...
Diablo is one of the tops on the list of scary, diabolical experiences in PC gaming. Period.
Crysis is pretty playable now with a 4850.... A cheap "mid-range" card.
Technology has progressed. There is no need to dumb-down graphics for that blatantly invalid reason.
It's... not blatantly invalid? You say it as if it can be ignored completely along with all the other factors.
Anyways, I've already said my piece and the graphics bit was only an afterthought. I'm also of the opinion that the game should be made "darker" but that's easily toggled. There are some points I'm a bit iffy on (RAINBOWS, ANYONE?), but it's daytime so there's not much to say until they can give us a shot of a decent range of environments.

The option for "be changed, but not necessarily like the pictures present in the original post (provide a link in a post to what you'd prefer)." does not necessarily require you to show a picture. Not everyone has image editing capabilities. I'm sorry if you felt required to submit an image in order to pick that option, but I appreciate your honesty in not picking it because you didn't post a picture...if indeed that's what happened.
Feel free to vote 'be changed, but not necessarily like the pictures present in the original post (provide a link in a post to what you'd prefer).' if you like.
It really saddens me looking at a screenshot of the successor's to one of my favorite games is almost unbearable. Like I was trying to identify individual zombie's in the witch doctor's zombie wall, and it was really hard. Everything looks blurry or something.
In fact, I also have some of this problem in Starcraft 2, but THEN I didn't complain. Because Starcraft is much more about the RTS and strategy than it is zooming into the action. That's just not a big deal in a game like that. Though some of the community spoke up, I didn't say a word.
But Diablo is different. I want to admire my armor and admire my character. If it looks fake and cartoonish and totally out of place, I won't care about the loot, meaning I won't care about leveling and mfing, meaning that after a few quick spin-throughs, the game becomes like those other games from lesser companies that just sit on your shelf, for rare weekends.
It is basically a video detailing the gritty StarCraft II art and how it has progressed. Fanbase reaction combined with suggestions allowed them to add a darker and grittier feel to SC2, so if you like the way SC2 looks now, it is all because of fans and their so-called "complaining".
He also mentions how it is important to seperate IPs from eachother, such as StarCraft from WarCraft .

Quoted for information. Though it doesn't say any art changes were a result of fan feedback.
Edit: "The Zergling, Arrraaarrr."
I am not an artist. i cant altar colors on anything to tell you the truth.. im not saying look at the graphics between D2 and D3 im just saying look at the color contrast... I want Diablo 3 not WoW 2...
Compare this to the new screenshots of d3.
And im sorry i cant take screenshots because im on deployment so i had to use what i could find on the internet..
Nice, lol. I don't have a problem with the rainbow myself. It adds a layer of realism. That makes me feel as though sanctuary is actually inhabitable (oxygen, h20, etc).

The problem is that I want D3 even darker than the modified pictures, but I feel that some are not that well made. That leaves me with be changed, but not necessarily like the pictures present in the original post. which I think is a choice for those that feel that D3 is sufficient the way it is and would only like some tiny things changes whether it's lighting, textures, more polygons etc. changed.
Nothing is perfect, so I guess I'll just vote for : the way the modified pictures are. It seems closest.
