i kinda agree with u. but the $15/month monthly for wow doesnt stop even 11 year olds from playing and just noobin the game up for everybody. but i kinda want there to be a monthly (maybe like $10/month?) just so blizzard will have funds to update and improve the game easily. and monthlies will def control crowds.
but if it doesnt have a monthly, its all good still, just have to buy the game then ur set. i just hope pre-puberty aholes wont ruin the game, know'm sayin?
I'm a new poster as well and I feel compeled to disagree with these sorts of post whenever I see them;
1. The "Kiddies" are a huge source of revenue for Blizzard. They won't be adding costs just to discourage teens from buying the game. Also how many kids do you see running around with cell phones, Ipods, Blackberries etc these days? They (Or their parents) can afford it. Also, 10-15 bucks a month isn't going to discourage poeple with bad attitudes from buying this game...WoW is the perfect example.
2. I don't want this game to be WoW. I don't want to see a game world that is constantly changing. I don't want a million patches that keep "rebalancing" character classes to only, in the end, fail. I want a fairly static world that has a expansion or two then let it wind down and start making diablo 4. The only way I would accept a monthly fee was if it was the one and ONLY way to keep hackers under control. And even then anything over 10 a month would be out of the question.
And to adress your last point, most of us can afford the monthly payment. What you and everyone else who have the same opinions don't seem to understand is that it is the princible of it that bothers most of us. If I pay 60 bucks for the game I want to be able to play what I've just bought...I don't want to have to worry about yet another bill that may put me over the limit. I don't want to have to feel bound to play a game like it's an investment. I don't want to have to keep paying just to keep my characters if I decide to go play some other game for a month or two. There is still a big market of people who don't want to get caught up in pay-for-play games and guess what, a lot of them play diablo 2. If Blizzard decides to make it p4p or, worse yet, if this "New and Improved" battle.net becomes a subscrition service many people are going to leave the Blizzard realm of games for good.
I agree, athlough I don't want Diablo 3 to become Diablo 2 in terms of hacks and bots. How will Blizzard stop that?
All the reasons for having P2P doesn't make sense.
P2P games still have kiddies and idiots and gold farmers and hackers and botters.
D2 didn't have it and WC3 didn't have it, why should they change the whole concept of battlenet just to satisfy some ignorant people who don't have proper concept of money and how hard it is to earn it
i dont play wow just becuase its p2p. for that sole reason. i think its ubsurd. playing video games is awesome. its my favorite pass time. but at the same time i know when i sit at the comp for 12 hours leveling my barb. i just lost 12 hours of life i could have been...curing cancer? i dont know. who would pay for wasted time? not me.
blizzard cant raise the price of a game after its been sent out that would be stealing........ some people are so stupid i mean really why would you want a monthly on it. i hope carmar comes and bits you in the ass lol because it will end up being they put a monthly on it because you posted it and then you loss your job and cant pay to play the game any more hahahahahahahahahahaha think of that befor you say you want to add a monthly on a game..........
perhaps a petition to game come with a USB finger printer ID
so after indentified youself the game launch...
seens only way.
new petition...

The main reason is to secure Battle.net, thus stopping hacks and bots. Have you ever seen blatant hacking in WoW? No, because the money helps secure everything.
The secondary, although not as important, really, is to have a stream of constant content. However, the replay value of the Diablo series is epic so I'm not really worried about this one, but stopping hackers on Battle.net is a MUST.
I do not agree with this. Every time they get you use hack it has to be your first and last - the account should be deleted along with all characters.
Yep, in Warcraft 3 : TFT, if you get caught using any third-party program whilst in a ladder game, kiss your CD key goodbye because it will be banned forever the very next day. However, you can still use hacks like the maphack in custom games (like DoTA or just regular games hosted by a player). The custom game portion is very similar to how Diablo games are hosted... by a player.
I don't see how Blizzard will stop maphacks / bots from coming in Diablo 3, if it's on Battle.net.
"Jay Wilson: I can’t really talk about Battle.net but I will say, Battle.net will not be a background. It’ll be huge, the next version will be absolutely Blizzard’s focus. Everyone is going to be thrilled when they see the kind of stuff we have planned! It feeds into our overall focus of providing a really great service for our players."
With Battle.net being redone it wouldn't surprise me to see some sort of membership fee. Perhaps not just for D3 but maybe a community service system for all their big IP's.
I been lurcking around this forum for about a week and finally registered. I just wanted to add my thoughts in about this. Read before you flame please.
There are many reasons I would like there to be a monthly fee, or at least wouldn't mind it.
1. Keep the kiddies out. I am tired of 14 year old punks ruining my gaming experience. With a monthly fee, that is payable by credit card not game card, it would get rid of a lot of immaturity and would result in a better game. The game is rated M for a reason. Go watch your bob the builder and leave the gaming to the adults, thanks.
2. If blizzard plans to regularly update this game like wow, then I don't mind one bit paying for the content. It would give extra money to blizz for new enhancements and whatnot. We were all complaining about how d2 hardly ever got updated. Well, why should they when they have no reason incentive to. Added levels, bosses, items, bug fixes, and world events is way worth the cost to me.
There are many other reason however those are the main two.
Also, something else i thought of. Let say they start out with a fee of 5-10 dollars a month. Thats cheap as hell. However, every time you are caught using a hack, cheat, or exploit they raise that price 5 dollars. It would be a incentive not to cheat because it would start effecting the wallet.
Lastly, to the people who say they they cant afford a monthly payment. Honestly, if you cant afford 15 bucks max a month then you really need to get a better job or something and not play games. Im sorry, but if you are struggling to pay that small ammount of money you have other issues.
Bring your lunch to work 3 days a MONTH and save that money.
Dont spend 19 bucks at the movies and have that money.
Dont buy a case of beer and you can have the money.
If you are responsible with it you can easily find extra money.
Well thats my two cents, flame on.
I have about 3 things to say to this post....
1st..../sigh
2nd...You act as if you know everything about people's lives, most people get on games to unwind with their life that may already be in bad shape, what im saying is try and be more understanding it may make you a better person. Personally i have no problem paying for things like my WoW subscription but for some people its just not that easy.
3rd...Diablo 3 would not be Diablo with you had to pay to play it really, not in the since that most of the fanbase is used to when dealing with Diablo.
1-Not going to happen, kids will always be around, and also some adults are worse than kids.
2-They plan on updating Bnet 2 specially for SC2 and D3, and they have the extra profits from WoW to cover for that, not to mention Bnet being free is always a selling point for SC and Diablo, it will make them sell more=more profit, and as far as i know D2 got updated few times already, why wouldn't they update it if they promise to, no problem if updates get delayed, but they do it in the end, its their reputation here.
And the problem is not only the money, many people abroad play D2 and SC on Bnet without having to go through the cumbersome act of getting and keeping a credit card ( game cards are not available worldwide ), so keeping it free ensures everyone gets their fair chance of playing as long as they bought the game, don't be selfish and only think of yourself.

It's a business with shareholders, that logic doesn't apply.
At the end of the day they will do whatever that serves their business interests, if they believe that the revenue from a monthly fee would outweigh the potential loss of customers then they would do that for sure.
So the question is, does the new D3 and new Battle.net 2.0 provide enough new features that they can justify a small fee? If they decide not to introduce a fee, it would be for this reason, not some kind of ideological bias that prevents them from ever charging fees for battle.net.

Like i said, Bnet being free is always a selling point for Diablo and Starcraft, they even print that explicitly on the game cover of Starcraft, they know what they ar doing, it surely helps the game sell better.

lets add in the fact that without a monthly there is almost garunteed to be dupes / hacks / cheats running wild. In d2 it would take them a month to figure out how to stop the cheating, and people would figure out how to do it again within a day or two at most.
without a monthly fee, its much harder to keep track of accounts, and there is not a great enough incentive to not cheat in fear of ban.
10 dollars says OP is a 13 year old prepubescent boy who uses his mother's credit card to pay for his monthly WoW subscription and has no idea about the current state of the US economy.
There's not going to be a monthly, your cries are in vain...
Don't be so sure, there will be a free version of battle.net, but i'm quite sure this "new battle.net" will have a subscription that will effect all blizzards games, the more secure version will require a 1 time fee per year, kinda like XBL.

Jeez! I'm not going to pay a fee to play a game that is basically like a singleplayer LAN game! It's Battle.Net, it's not an MMO...
Considering they make over 150 million per month I don't think they are hurting much for money.....
I for one am not a fan of the subscription model.
I was just stating a fact, that is all.
