I been lurcking around this forum for about a week and finally registered. I just wanted to add my thoughts in about this. Read before you flame please.
There are many reasons I would like there to be a monthly fee, or at least wouldn't mind it.
1. Keep the kiddies out. I am tired of 14 year old punks ruining my gaming experience. With a monthly fee, that is payable by credit card not game card, it would get rid of a lot of immaturity and would result in a better game. The game is rated M for a reason. Go watch your bob the builder and leave the gaming to the adults, thanks.
2. If blizzard plans to regularly update this game like wow, then I don't mind one bit paying for the content. It would give extra money to blizz for new enhancements and whatnot. We were all complaining about how d2 hardly ever got updated. Well, why should they when they have no reason incentive to. Added levels, bosses, items, bug fixes, and world events is way worth the cost to me.
There are many other reason however those are the main two.
Also, something else i thought of. Let say they start out with a fee of 5-10 dollars a month. Thats cheap as hell. However, every time you are caught using a hack, cheat, or exploit they raise that price 5 dollars. It would be a incentive not to cheat because it would start effecting the wallet.
Lastly, to the people who say they they cant afford a monthly payment. Honestly, if you cant afford 15 bucks max a month then you really need to get a better job or something and not play games. Im sorry, but if you are struggling to pay that small ammount of money you have other issues.
Bring your lunch to work 3 days a MONTH and save that money.
Dont spend 19 bucks at the movies and have that money.
Dont buy a case of beer and you can have the money.
If you are responsible with it you can easily find extra money.
Well thats my two cents, flame on.
who wants a monthly fee... BTW im 15 and im generally welcomed and accepted nobody has a problem with me.
Guild Wars does NOT have a monthly fee and if there are kiddies you don't want to deal with, you don't have to group with them. Even put them on ignore. Just group with people close to your own age and yer fine.......usually.

I will not "flame", however, I STRONGLY DISAGREE with your statement. There is no reason I would want to pay extra money to play a game.

Okie Dokie.

You know what people call this? Discrimination and segregation. Lol - I kid, I kid. That bob the builder comment was uncalled for, however.
Seriously, though, I do not agree with this. Honestly - advertising bots have bothered me more than immature users. Also, your post suggests that all adults are mature whereas all the "kiddies" are "punks" that are out to ruin your "gaming experience". I happen to be 16 in truth, and have played Diablo games since ~ the age of 12. I do not think that I have ever neem "ruining my [anyone's] gaming experience." However, if a monthly fee was initiated, I would be forced out. I am, after all, nothing more than a lazy kid who does not have a job.

I think that the game is fine as is. It doesn't require hyper-frequent updates to be a fun game. Not all players are hardcore. While this is an improvement, it's not worth the extra fee to me.

I do NOT think that this will actually work to stop cheating nor hacking. The current punishment - the permanent ban of the cheating account - is more harsh than this one, and it didn't stop people from cheating.

Just because one can afford something doesn't mean that that person would want to pay for it.
I could afford it, however, I refuse to pay $15 dollars every month to support my gaming. Call me cheap, because I AM. And I see nothing wrong with it (in this context).
It doesn't seem like they are planning on it. I could see them asking for a subscription for Battle.Net 2 whether it's for SC2 or D3 or whatever else, but depending on how much $ they want and the features B.net offers, I'd have no problem paying it.

Well, they would just be falling into the same money pit as WoW. I think they would loose a whole bunch of players. But if its like 5 $ I would but not 15-20$
and monthlies will not necessarily keep pre-puberty n00bs out. perfect example, WoW. but i do hope the game will be pretty complex for PPN's, so that theyd be to stupid to play d3.

Money games keep adults out more than kids.
The kids just use their allowance, the adults choose not to play so they can pay bills.
They already said it won't be P2P, but of course they also said "We haven't finalized that yet". But he did say they wanted it to be an off-the-shelf game, or some other words.

This is a common misconception that I am getting increasingly tired and sick of hearing.
Age =/= Intelligence+Maturity.
Seriously, my 10 year old sister and I (13 at the time) could play Diablo II perfectly fine.
EDIT: FYI, my best char was a cookie-cutter clvl92 Hammerdin. Seriously, those are as easy as HELL to make.
No way, I don't want D3 to be another time sink like WoW.
Monthly fee really is a top reason for addiction, you just feel you want to play all the time you pay for.
Besides, if it will require a monthly fee, I will just play with my friends in TCP/IP/Hamachi if it'll be avaliable, no way I'm gonna pay.

P.S. It's so fun to use capital letters. <3<3<3
I agree P2P would just be too much.
P2P games are money pits.
Highly Agreed
Making Controversial points one post at a time!

No P2P.
too true bratha! kids dont have anything to worry about. and kids just sometimes use their parents to pay.
I think if they did that it'd be massive fail on their part.

That's also true but it's a mature rated game. If the parents see no problem exposing their kids to that, then that's their decision I guess.
Anyway I don't care if younger people play I've gotten used to playing with younger people. P2P would be epic fail though.
