I agree --- 100%. The thing that keeps me playing WoW is that they keep adding more stuff to do and it keeps me and my group of local friends supplied with fresh content as we traverse Azeroth talking about life outside the game over Ventrilo. While I would still love Diablo 3, I have a feeling I would get bored of it eventually if there was a lack of new things to do.
However, I do empathize with those who are not able to afford a monthly fee in addition to purchasing any future expansions and Diablo III itself.
It's a hard decision to make. I trust everything to Blizzard because if there's anything I can't say about them, it's that they've made a bad game. Since WarCraft I, I've been totally in love with Blizzard. They've been making the games that I've been playing and loving since I was like ten years old.
I personally say everyone needs to quit bickering amongst each other about stuff they don't like about this new Diablo III (which I, personally, am quite appalled at the negative feedback Blizzard is getting out of this --- these guys have way more experience making games than any of the fools on this board, I'm sure.) Let's just all be excited that it's on the way and that we couldn't ask for a better company to be making the game.
1. Keep the kiddies out. I am tired of 14 year old punks ruining my gaming experience.
Hmph. I'm 13 but no punk... oh wait. Yes I am. But in any case, with or without a credit card I could still play. For the record, your whole post just... sucks...

I understand the concerns of the topic starter (the kids and all that), but imposing monthly payments on a franchise that was long overdue is like getting the most beautiful chick in the world but you can't fuck her without paying.

Not to mention games like Guildwars 2 ; will not have monthly fee's, Now if i compare these 2 games.. Diablo 3 and Guildwars 2 theyre both pretty good id say guildwars 2 might have More content and stuff to do compared to diablo 3... And ITS FREE! And its MMORPG !
"Will Guild Wars 2 be an MMO? Yes. Guild Wars 2 provides a massive, online persistent world."
"Will there be a subscription fee for Guild Wars 2? Nope. Like the original Guild Wars, there will be no subscription fee for Guild Wars 2. You just buy the game and play it online without paying a monthly fee."
The thing about the Guildwars business model is that they are or were going to release campaigns every 6 months or so and thats why they don't need a sub. fee

But people could CHOSE if they want to buy it :). Although Blizz doesn't do almost anything for the fee if you look at the makers of Lord of the rings online. They added continent at the size of 2x 'the burning crusade' from wow the last year added DX10 options/effects, housing and lots lots more. Thats called service for your monthly fee :P. Then i don't mind the fee, but I do with wow. With the last patch they added some real content, but that was the first time after around 2 years...
I would not mind a 5 dollar monthly fee to insure that content is always being created.
But I don't think the Diablo world works like that, as there is a set storyline. Furthermore, the content patch is the expansion that always follows one year after.
Nah i like scamming people. its fun. i like killing people for fun. i like pking. I hate serious games where u cant talk shit or do anything, its a fucking game people. ruining other people's day is fun and brings me joy to my day. the reason d2 doesnt have anymore content is because it already has enough content, it cant get much better anymore. u cant really improve much on something that is already near perfect. its also an old ass game. its not a mmo people, its a rpg. its kinda funny u guys pay to play WoW but they dont even update on stuff that much lol. eating ur money.
Some people bring up some pretty valid points throughout the thread and some are a bit silly, but I'll say it again please don't make it pay to play. It fixes nothing.
Well, if you win your case and Blizzard makes it pay to play, I'm screwed until I get a job and out of the house. They'll probably be making Diablo IV by the time that happens.
I been lurcking around this forum for about a week and finally registered. I just wanted to add my thoughts in about this. Read before you flame please.
There are many reasons I would like there to be a monthly fee, or at least wouldn't mind it.
1. Keep the kiddies out. I am tired of 14 year old punks ruining my gaming experience. With a monthly fee, that is payable by credit card not game card, it would get rid of a lot of immaturity and would result in a better game. The game is rated M for a reason. Go watch your bob the builder and leave the gaming to the adults, thanks.
2. If blizzard plans to regularly update this game like wow, then I don't mind one bit paying for the content. It would give extra money to blizz for new enhancements and whatnot. We were all complaining about how d2 hardly ever got updated. Well, why should they when they have no reason incentive to. Added levels, bosses, items, bug fixes, and world events is way worth the cost to me.
There are many other reason however those are the main two.
Also, something else i thought of. Let say they start out with a fee of 5-10 dollars a month. Thats cheap as hell. However, every time you are caught using a hack, cheat, or exploit they raise that price 5 dollars. It would be a incentive not to cheat because it would start effecting the wallet.
Lastly, to the people who say they they cant afford a monthly payment. Honestly, if you cant afford 15 bucks max a month then you really need to get a better job or something and not play games. Im sorry, but if you are struggling to pay that small ammount of money you have other issues.
Bring your lunch to work 3 days a MONTH and save that money.
Dont spend 19 bucks at the movies and have that money.
Dont buy a case of beer and you can have the money.
If you are responsible with it you can easily find extra money.
Well thats my two cents, flame on.
I will flame on. Seriously, are you right in the head?
You're asking them to make you pay money? You want to have to pay in order to play? Why not ask for them to charge a decade in advance?
?????????????????
All of your arguments are incredibly lame and easily beaten. I won't waste time arguing.

The Barbarian is from Arreat, a very cold snowy mountain top, but they are much tougher than normal humans, so they don't need warmth.

Where are Barbarians originally from? Sumeria, or more specifically Mesopotamia, AKA Europe. Think the Alps and the Pyrenees
yeah right, you need to be a moron to pay monthly fee in order to play a game, even if its diablo 3.
+monthly fee will only get more kids to play as for example a 25yr old guy who works himself for the money is less likely to spend it on monthly fee than a 13yr old who's parents are paying the fee.
get a brain

Diablo 3 is graphically and artistically great, there needs to be variety in the game, instead of only plain and dark areas!
+Wouldn't it be better and more interesting if from a sunny beautiful day, mist starts covering the screen, rain starts falling, thunders and lightning striking and it starts to darken, instead of constant dark!?

you're an idiot my friend in WoW are you forced to play with like 12 year olds even though little kids do play WoW?? no
The game is gunna be hosted on Battle.net so this post is already retarded to make one due to Battle.net is free for all its blizzard games. WoW was suppost to be free and Advertisements were to suuport the game costs.
if you dont like little kids leave the game creat your own put a password on the game you make your not physically forced to play with litte kids so stop being a QQING moron have a good day

I'd like to mention that I specifically signed up to these forums because this post was incredibly ignorant and misguided.
Firstly, Why would blizzard want to keep kids out? It is true that they aren't usually as hard-core as you may like to play, but they have every right to enjoy the game online as you do. Personally I have no problem with playing alongside kids - I enjoy a fairly relaxed gameplay style.
Also, as with D2, there have always been regular content updates, and I do not see any reason why this would not be true for D3. It has been a long time coming and Blizzard do take a lot of pride in their games.
And as for your assumption that everyone can afford an extra $15USD a month is incredibly ignorant, I even find it borderline offensive tbh. Not everyone playing the game is in the USA using american dollars, and fact is there are some huge economic differences in some parts of the world that essentially mean that no, not everyone can scrape up an extra $15USD from the bottom of their couch when they have bills to pay, dinner to put on the table. But these people do still enjoy playing a decent game from time to time.
Fact is I have a good amount of friends who simply could not afford to add another bill to their monthly expenses (living in a flat with 6 others who are all excited about the announcement), and it would really suck to miss out after waiting so long for a sequel.
A monthly subscription does not keep "kids" out. Just look at the Age of Conan forums & World of Warcraft forums. They are omnipresent. Your logic is flawed if you think a mere piddly subscription is going to keep all the "kiddies" out of Diablo 3. Where there's a will, there's a way.
Secondly, Blizzard always provides updates to their games via battle.net for free anyway. Never did they say D3 was going to be a procedurally updated game with new content every month, it's not an MMORPG.
I said it was in the magazine Gamstar from mai or june 2007.
However, I do empathize with those who are not able to afford a monthly fee in addition to purchasing any future expansions and Diablo III itself.
