Ugh, you simply don't understand gamedesign. Its so frustrating.
Just please think about it for ONE second. Did Blizzard NOT use the 1 slot "more efficient" inventory system, because they couldn't, or never thought about it ? There was a reason to use it, its reason simply is gamedesign. if you want pure efficienty, then why even bother playing a game? The complete point of the tetris system is that it HAS a point, you actually have to make good use of the space you're given, there is a reason why the inventory has those measurements, people actually thought about it, made it so that its strategically balanced, you have to think before it fits, not just mindlessly run around with stuff and pick up stuff. Its like saying that tetris with nothing but squares would be more efficient, well duh, ofcourse it would, it would also defeat the entire purpose of the game, as does a 1 square inventory system defeats the purpose of the inventory. Why not let all your loot "magically" appear in your endless chest? Would be way more efficient, yes? Pffft, why not let the game automatically use skills whenever needed? Would again be way more efficient. Why not simply walk through a portal to the endboss for endless efficient farming? Don't you understand why it all adds nothing to good gamedesign?
Sooo... Blizzard already implemented the one-slot system. Yeah, they really don't know jack about game design. Stupid Blizzard!
You carried your silly little analogy a bit too far. The game is not about sorting your inventory. Did you not read what I wrote? The tetris system is an old system that needs revamping. Blizzard did that. Why are you attempting to lecture me on how to make the gameplay smoother? Blizzard also replaced potions with red orbs; how dare they!
You're confusing "efficient" with "automated". Did you notice the new skill bar at the bottom? That is efficiency. You are describing automation where the game basically wins for you. Inventory is not an integral part of the gameplay experience; it is one of the means to hold the loot.
tetris is what diablo players r used to, but if u notice, things DO stack in D2 (keys, scrolls [in the form of tomes], thrown weapons), so stackable items is really a moot point. in any MMORPG, u can't stack swords or axes on each other.
tetris is not realistic either (the inventory is actually a backpack, u can't fit ONE bardiche in a backpack, let alone 3 or 4), but hey, there's no reason for the game to be realistic.
but doppelganger is right, one item per slot is much more convenient. if u can shrink 4 bardiches into a backpack, why not 100? maybe ur shrinking magic is more advanced in D3 than D2.
I find that the Tetris system is frustrating but it is a love hate relationship. I mean that is one of the main things I remember about the diablo franchise. It is one of those things that is just way to good to get rid of. It is a key thing to the diablo experience. I mean i know it sound Trivial but it is a memerable thing about Diablo 1 and 2, and it does add some realism and choices.

"Waiter, waiter, could you come here. I think you got some WoW in my Diablo. Could you take it back to Blizzard and fix it for me please."
I do agree with the size-representation argument. The one-slot inventory loses that sense of size and power. Still, I'm all for more efficient inventory management... and I want twice the space that D2 offered. XD
As has been mentioned several times, I fully support the tetris system if Blizzard adds an "auto-sort" button; otherwise, I'm downright tired of moving little trinkets around.
I dont care as long as i can pick up items go to town and sell them for gold. As long as it does that i dont care what they do are how they do it.

I have played several games , just as most of us have . I actually like having a Cumberance Rate and bag system . where one item fills one slot regardless size . Also incorporates the stacking of certain items , potions , keys , some quest items , etc .
Plus , the better our storage system we have the less reason people will have for making mule / storage characters . But , thats just my opinion .

With Honor and the Guidance of Tyrael , lets do the deed !
Honestly both systems can be considered flawed. Blizter has a few decent points (When his english is understandable) but his attack plan upon people who think that it will be too wowish and how it is unrealistic are not very reliable arguments.
Personally, I think that diablo 3 should combine the two, have the old tetris style slots, but make them smaller, and have plenty more of them. The limited resolution capability of the previous diablo games didn't allow this (kinda) and people have changed a lot since diablo 2 was released. People want to be able to alter there gui to suit themselves, and not be stuck with one generic GUI.
The one thing I am going to miss if they do implement the wow bag system is the look of the rare items. I loved it in diablo 1 and 2 how when you picked up a unidentified unique item, it looked the same as all the other normal ones you picked up, but when identified, it actually was unique in every sense of the word.
im for the 1 slot system because if they make gold worth anything like they said they were. i am going to sell pretty much everything i find so i can use all the room i can get (:
I really liked the tetris grid inventory. Rearranging items in order to fit that last bit of loot was fun.
Also, there are problems with charms and item art with this new WOW-esque inventory.
Wish they made it like old Diablo but where you could switch the items like rotate them. But on the same hand the single item would be kinda convenient which is what they want, just dont know how hard it is gonna be to read and identify what items are what.

Oh well. It doesn't really matter. We're just arguing semantics.
I like the new system. I like not having to shuffle crap around even though I know I have the room.

Edit--
WOW- wrong thread, lol. Forget that.

But that's only my opinion.
I'll won't be sad if there will be an old tetris inventory like in Diablo 1 and 2..
It still will be awesome.
But i made my choise of those 2.Nice thread, keep it up
