This like a lot of the other QQ posts is just another "I'm a conservative diablo 2 fan, anything that is remotely wowish is 100% bad, anything that isn't 100% diablo 2ish is 100% bad." posts.
People hate change, it's a fact of life >.<, and they will discredit any change no matter how potentially beneficial it is... until they get to experience it.

"If we're actually making the game worse with no other reason than to be different from WoW, then it's a bad choice." - Jay Wilson (D3 lead designer)
For a reasoning human being, its undeniable that the tetris inventory in Diablo definitively added depth to the game. Whether you consciously understood it or not, you enjoyed playing Diablo because of its implications.
I'm not saying they have to do it the same exact way, but I am saying that they should be sure to do it in a way that is conducive to making sure obtaining loot is more enjoyable on a deeper level.
For the fast clicker who is fighting with a bunch of friends, when they down a boss he will be able to pick up everything the boss drops with a "1 slot per item" inventory, leaving everybody else dumbfounded as to where all the loot went.
You won't get the same satisfaction of being able to laugh at the person who blindly picked up a few crappy items in a clicking fury only to get to, say... a Shako that flips up into the air to fall back down graciously at your feet for the taking, as the unfortunate furious clicker hears those three heartbreaking words "I am overburdened."
What sucks for the furious clicker is that he could have had the space but his bags weren't packed right.. but he'll be back for more; with the prize he practically tasted as it was snatched from under his nose, he'll be back.
Thats entertainment you can't buy my friends. ..err I guess we did...
Don't know if you heard, but I think they said everyone gets their own loot..
This brings up another point. If people are getting their own loot, if they aren't fighting for loot, their inventory will get filled faster with the tetris, so I can see why the developers went the way they chose.

Ah you guys gotta be kidding that you prefer inventory tetris.
Seriously, ife we count the time we spend just managing the inventory from all the time we played it's probably gonna be like, a few days, maybe weeks ??
The best and most fun approach, overall, is 1 item per slot, without a doubt.
And, in case people miss the artwork for the items, this can be simply solved by adding a right click thing that open the item details.

O balls.. this is terrible news. You just had to ruin it for me didn't you.
The tetris aspect is a waste of time. They can easily implement size/weight with a single number. I'd rather just be able to pick up items and have them fit instead of have to rearrange my inventory to allow room even though the room is there. It'd save so much time if I have "10 units available" knowing I can just pick up a 7-unit item without having to sort my pack out.

Cause you know... if he didn't tell you... they just wouldn't have implemented it......
This is probably the best news for anyone that isn't a botter/hacker or lives on the flat right above the server...
It's stupid that who gets the loot first is defined by where you live/how good your connection is.

I guess sarcasm really is the highest functioning process in the brain. (lol, I could very well see this turned around on me)
..but btw, if that were a reasonable justification, nobody would play first person shooters.
"That's not fair he was quicker and more accurate. This is game is stupid."
-yeah you can't say that.
Hellgate London took a ton of flack for implementing the grid system again. It's just a bad idea at this point. Let Diablo 3 evolve, or go play Diablo 2.
I would ofcourse but it just seems so stupid if I find a major plate mail of 200 kilo's just to find I can place it @ the same area a ring would cover up
I dunno, I played so many games with so many different systems that I don't really care that much anymore. Video games are abstractions, therefore going for realism in them is not really my idea of a good design tactic. A plate mail that replaces a ring, or the fact that a hero wearing plate mail can carry one more plate mail - both are not really realistic, but I don't think that's the point.
By the way, in Diablo III you won't really have a full plate mail because it's all divided into parts now. Most you'll get like a cuirass or something.
And how about:

its way cooler when it looks like the actual item is infront of your eyes
Well, I'd actually want them make better 3D models on chars, maybe, so when you equip an item, it looks nice.
Forgot to compare the existing slot system with Runescape:
Yea, Runescape FTW... yea...
Seriously, the more I look at versions of the slot inventory system, the more confused and overwhelmed I get. With Tetris you can actually see the items you have and compare their values, where as the slot system, such as the following, is more confusing and overwhelming:
Lets compare it to wow.... oh wait that's not cool around here... it can steal from any other game but wow right?
I think it's childish to call it stealing. Games evolve. Tons of games stole from Blizzard, and Blizzard stole tons from those other games. In fact, most Blizzard games are a fuze of many good ideas from other games.
Difference... FPS have servers in my country (NZ) and even in my city... People I play with have all the same latency give or take...
Blizzard games host all their servers in the US/Asia/Europe....
That is not a good comparison. Because it's wrong.
This is also a discussion on the inventory, not how you acquire items.
TBH unlimited stash space would be bad, a LARGE space is nice but unlimited would lead to rediculous stockpiling of items.
I'm not sure its beneficial to discuss inventory management without discussing how items are looted for they go hand-in-hand. You can't create a definitive argument for the best way to conduct inventory management without incorporating the looting system into your idea. But i think your saying they should make a worse game because you live in NZ..but i digress...
I'll be fine if the inventory adds at least an equal amount of depth as the tetris style did. ..Granted, it could always be better.

Exactly. Keep the grid for the character's inventory and have an unlimited stash space.
I find the weighting system more annoying than tetris by far. Tetris was unique; weighting is burdensome.
