Does anyone know how this is actually going to work, or is this all speculation?
I hope its the old way, keep it simple and easy.
THe inventory could get a makeover like you guys are saying, weight or slots, or both, just anything would be better then what it is, plus the grid system is way outdated.
I doubt you can "hide" other items from other people.
So, you will be able to see these items.
So, lets say there's a "Witchdoctors mask" drop. A player playing a Barbarian can SEE that item, but if he goes to pick it up, he will not be able to because it is not his item TYPE.
Do you get me?
If a class-specific drops it is yours to pick up, the other players will not see this. Meanwhile the other players will see separate drops which you will not, and they belong to them.
Example: 4 player party takes down boss. You see 2 drops, and each of the 3 other players see 2 other SEPARATE drops, each. 8 drops total. You see the 2 that are yours.

Exactly what I was hoping for. I hope that this is the case. I hated the mad rush for loot.

I understand now.
However, I still don't see how drops could be hidden.
I mean, what if one player wanted what another player got as THEIR drop?
Personally, I think items should drop like normal and if some guy wants to be a douche and horde the items, well, you'll know not to play with him or kill bosses with him in the future.
Well, I know that when I play I'm going to chat and see what everyone got from any particular battle. If they have something I want there's always trading.
trading promotes community interaction which is always a good thing, d2 trading went off.. but I have a feeling this time they will probably put some auction house-esque thing in to help instead of sitting in a trade channel watching 10 pages of spam come every second
I wouldn't say class-specific more like a character specific. The question was specifically asked to the development team and the answer was as follows:
"When you kill a boss the loot drops multiple times, once per player, each seeing the loot generated for them."
I like the proposed idea, however I understand both points of view. It was exciting in D2 when you realized you picked up that elite item after a monster kill, but just as devastating if you personally killed a boss by yourself and were unable to pick up your loot for whatever reason.
Although I don't think every monster should drop multiple times, just bosses, if they implement it at all. Either way late game I don't think it makes that big of deal as trading is such a big part of cooperative play.
However, I still don't see how drops could be hidden.

Its not about drops being hidden, look at quest items.... in WoW for example, you don't see items that drop for other peoples quests, same system applies here.

Edit: looks like it is happening afterall, still class specific drops wont be restricted to being picked up by the specified class, it wouldnt be logical
I don't see this happening, having seperate drops for each player in the game? i would hate to see this system in d3 if magic finding is anything like d2, more players join mobs get harder, drops get better, this would cheapen the economy, especially if class specific items are only lootable by the specified class, which isnt logical
Well that is the way it is happening. Same as they have in HG:L. About MF i believe it's calculated individually for each player as well(think it's like that in HG:L) when an enemy is killed.
Why would this cheapen the economy? Why would the drops get better because of more players in a game?

My post was a reply to the ability of players of one class to pick up items specific to another class. The point stands.

What are your thoughts?
Thanks for all the info guys.

Lawl. Now it's gonna go from "You jacked my item!" to "You jacked my kill!". This is hilarious. Just leave it how it was, damn.
What's the difference between me stealing the SOJ you found from X monster and me jacking the kill on X monster and he drops an SOJ?
Make a game too fair and only idiots will play.
In the famous words of Magus from Chrono Trigger "You got whacked because you're weak".
I took it as being that if partied, the loot would only be visible for one of the members, no matter who killed the mob.
This seems fair to me, even if it seem boring to those who thrive on getting all the loot.

That is exactly how I took his comment as well, it had nothing to do with who dealt the final blow.
